As a Primary School Teacher with six years of qualified teaching experience, I don’t often spend time thinking back to my first lesson observations. It is really useful to reflect in this way and remember how your early teaching placement experience helps to shape you as an educator. I share my observation details, targets and notes that have been kept in my QTS evidence folder since I graduated in 2013. I hope that by sharing this I will help to support, inspire and guide new teachers through their training and give hope to those who may be struggling with gathering evidence or lesson observations on placement. Teaching is very tricky, but I believe in each and every one of you! If you have any lesson observations coming up soon, be sure to give this video a watch. Good luck, teachers!
Channel Information:My name is Katie and I am a qualified Primary School Teacher from Manchester, UK. My degree is BA Honours Primary Education with QTS and in August 2019 I will begin my 7th year of teaching. Currently based in Hong Kong, I share my knowledge of the UK system and information about working internationally through videos on this channel each week. If you have a suggestion for content or a burning question feel free to leave a comment below. In order to support the channel, consider clicking the red “subscribe” button below the video. It’s free and will really hope my content to be found by other student teachers. Thank you!

Thank you for this. I am at the start of my BA primary degree and have my first placement coming up after Christmas. I have has a few serial days and I feel very unsettled at the school and I'm really worried that this will affect my grades and all the paperwork for the files is so overwhelming, Tips from fellow students and teachers would be appreciated. I just want this so badly!! xx

For Teachers I’m still at school because I’m only 16, But i am an aspiring teacher and find your channel so so interesting since it gives me a taster of what your job is like. The more of your videos I watch the more and more i want to become a teacher! Any tips for a 16year old aspiring to be a teacher? Xx

Continue doing what you’re doing (lots of research online!) see if you can do some work experience in a nearby primary school (ask your high school, they might allow you some time out. Worth asking!) and start making notes of anything you do which might look good on a personal statement (any volunteering, research you do) be sure to message me and update me on your journey! Good luck! X

I got satisfactory in my last 2 observations but my class teacher and ust have said I've definitely made a lot of improvements so hopefully my last observation goes well next week. I'm still in my first placement (ks2 year 3) and i've progressed SO much as a teacher in the last few weeks so hopefully I end up with good or outstanding at the end of my pgce ❤️🙏🏽
@ForTeachersChannel

You can do it! Similar to my path. May I ask, is the grading still the same as I mention? Xx
@beigelover95
@beigelover95 5 лет назад
For Teachers Yes it is the same. Thank you! my goal is to be a stress-free amazing teacher (regardless of whether I achieve a good or outstanding on my pgce)

@@ForTeachersChannel I'm doing a PGCE and currently on my second placement - Y1 in a mixed YR, Y1 and Y2 class. I've never heard of this grading scale and I had my observation last Thursday which after the lesson I got my feedback which actually was positive and full of pointers and things to help refine the lesson. Will I get a grade overall - they never even mention anything about good/outstanding!!? x

Maybe it’s been scrapped for some universities now! Which is probably for the best. Don’t worry about grading just continue to do the best job you can 💕 and let me know how you get on! X

I have found your channel so helpful! I am currently at college studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Child’s Play, Learning and development and i am wanting to continue this further by going to Uni and study this exact course! I am currently in a Primary School setting for my placement and I absolutely love it and cannot wait to hopefully be a primary school teacher one day!! X

Hi Zoe thank you so much for taking the time to send this! It always makes me smile to know that the videos are making a positive impact. I hope you enjoy your teacher training (even though it will be tough, it will be SO worth it too) and remember to keep me updated on your progress. I love to find out about the highs and lows that students face along the way. Katie xo

Thank you so much for replying!! Of course I will keep you updated, I am really enjoying the course. Although, there is tons of work, and I’m guessing there will be more and more along the way. I really do aspire to be a Primary School teacher, so I just need to continue to try my best! Xx

The course is going great! I have now changed placements from a Primary School to a Nursery, and even though I am really enjoying the Nursery, I much prefer Schools. Towards the end of this academic year I have my first 3 exams which is worrying, however I just need to work really hard x

In my first two lesson teaching PE in a high school I got outstanding outside doing practical but teaching PE in a classroom I got satisfactory because I wasn’t a classroom person because I love been practical but at the end I got outstanding in both the classroom and doing practical outside the classroom

Thank you. I got quite good lesson observations in my first key stage 1 placement, but things are different in key stage 2. My observations are not bad, but my subject knowledge is not great!
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 5 лет назад
I feel like subject knowledge is tricky to get right. I’m teaching abroad at the moment and most specialist lessons are taken by specialist teachers. In the UK I feel as though there is a lot of pressure to know a lot about almost everything! We can’t all excel at each subject. I’m sure your observations will pick up very soon ☺️ and like I say in the video, it’s about how you feel and reflect rather than a grade anyway! What year group do you have currently?
@8steph9
@8steph9 5 лет назад
I'm in a mixed year 4/5 class. Differentiation can be tricky. They all sit in mixed ability tables too, great for group discussions, tricky for setting work
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 5 лет назад
I definitely prefer mixed ability groupings! And flexible seating (if possible, depending on classroom setup situation) good luck with them. They’ll appreciate your efforts and you’ll learn so much! Let me know if I can help with anything at all ☺️

This has come at SUCH a good time! I'm a trainee tecaher in year 3 and I'm just about to teach mass g/kg over the upcoming week. I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to explain it really well.. im finding behaviour management quite difficult. I'm a top up student so have come straight onto the third year. Not easy!
@ForTeachersChannel
@ForTeachersChannel 5 лет назад
It’s so tricky isn’t it! I can remember this lesson so clearly. It really got inside my head! Just relax and do the best you can. Subject knowledge is something that is ever developing. You never wake up and suddenly know it all! Let me know how you get on with everything I’d love to hear a success story (or a flop story, we can always learn from mistakes too ;) )

For Teachers 2 days in and it’s actually going ok! I went and had a chat with the maths lead and he told me that my main concern should be the children grasping the concept and there was no need to move on so quickly! So I actually enjoyed today’s lesson and so did the students and that put me in a better mood
@ForTeachersChannel

Happy to hear a success story. Keep up the good work :)

For Teachers thank you. Could you also make a video for health tips because I know teachers are more at risk for catching colds and flus and straining their voice etc. Thank you!

This is such an amazing idea. I have a terrible throat right now! The school environment seems to make me sick. Thank you for the suggestion.

For Teachers you’re welcome. I’m on week 4 out of 8 on placement atm and I’ve already got a sore throat I tend to raise my voice so I need behaviour management strategies that don’t require me to use my voice as much I’ve tried the shaking the head and raising hand and it works but I need more strategies lol.
