Nowadays there's so many aftermarket radiators for gas vehicles , most made in China, and it's cheaper to replace it than repair most of them.

It's probably more accurate to say that BMW's service for the dealer you leveraged is top-notch. It really does vary by dealer. I've gone to some that are really bad, and one that was really good.

This video confirms something I had suspected about Tesla Service. My very first interaction with them was for a list of small things from delivery. They initially gave me a 7 week wait time. Then a couple days before the service date they punted for an additional 5 weeks for "parts haven't arrived". I still haven't gotten in yet. Anyway, I believed all this delay was really because the issues are not ones that affect safety or drivability. I'm glad they got you in right away!

@@dougmanck4149 I've owned BMW, Porsche, Ford, Honda, Tesl and Rivian. It always depends on the service you need. If it's a recall it takes a while to get in. If it's a dire issue they get you in right away. It depends on the issue. This issue in this video is really rare. Just bad luck for me

As an idea for future content, consider talking about a front grill mesh insert. Debris and leaves can enter through the front grill area and get trapped in the radiator, reducing the efficiency of the radiator (and therefore the ac), making the hvac work harder and possibly not getting as cold. A small rock could also enter the front grill at highway speeds and cause damage to the radiator, which may have happened to you. Not many RU-vidrs have covered this, so it would be good info to get out. This could also lead to a future video on how to clean the radiator. Or, do the videos in the other order, clean out the radiator first, then install the front grill mesh cover to keep out future debris. Both are simple, and can be done by even the most novice at a cost of ~$30

Cleaned out my radiator last year after around 27K miles. I was surprised how much was already clogging up the fins. Added a mesh screen when I was done. Was planning to do this every 12K miles or so. Hoping the screen makes a difference.

I have had similar experience with the East Mesa Service center. They also do a great job with quick mobile service. We also have the Mini Cooper (bmw service) and it recently had a warranty service check up and we got that video of the tires and around the electric Mini. I want to ask you about AC.. when I get in my Y by myself, I always go up on the screen and click on the rear AC, it then cools the car very fast.. I know that it is less efficient but I wish Tesla had an "arizona" mode for us, because having the air only on me, takes forever to cool the car in the summer.

I don't trust dealers photos and props. I had a jeep dealer show me what was supposed to be a jar of fuel from my jeep. They said I needed an $800. Fuel system flush. Went to a different shop and it turned out to be a $25. O2 sensor.

I installed a Front Grill Mesh Grille Grid Inserts Compatible with Tesla Model Y Air Inlet Vent Grille Cover to ride myself of leaves, road debris and also impact damage from rocks etc, when I first got my 2023 Model Y, you may want to consider doing the same on your Tesla! I believe it was like $80.00, now I see they available on Amazon.

You’ll avoid the issues by screening off that lower open area which should’ve been done from the factory. Not doing that leaves owners susceptible to unnecessary damages and costs.

Go to one of the auto parts stores and get a gas siphon. Easier to use instead of some other methods. I have 4 of them for different items like coolant or gas.

Hey. Met you at Tempe supercharger about a month ago(blue model 3). When I was heading home from the supercharger I got that same alert and it turns out my radiator was cracked by debris. $700 to replace. The SC recommended a grill cover from Amazon to stop debris getting to the radiator.

Yes, the small 12 V battery. Contrary to what the naysayers would like people to believe, you don’t replace your main battery pack. Nobody would buy EV cars if you had to replace those mega battery packs at eye-watering costs.

Had an HVAC issue Tesla wanted to throw parts and labor and tried to bill me over $5200. Tool to a local Tesla shop who figured out these cars and wasn’t even close to their diagnosis. Ran over something and damaged a panel and something stuck in the fan and superbottle controller. Tesla will rip you a new one. If you need a contact I’ll post details.

@@Gjeebs Yeah, no problem. So, I have a 2023 Model Y with 40,000 miles on it. My suspension started to click (clearly metal on metal and not the brakes). I brought it to 1 Tesla service center and they "greased it", but the problem persisted. So, I brought it to another service center, that's when they told me that the front and rear knuckles, front control arms, front fore link, front aft link, and more suspension components in the rear are faulty and that there is a revised model of the suspension components. Upon visual inspection, I could immediately see that the bushings look different. The only part that they shouldn't mess up and they did. Do you want a screenshot of the service thing?

Garden hoses, any tubing really. A straw is a the last straw resort. That is what you use when you are out in the middle of nowhere and are scrounging for something. Not when you live in a rural/city area where it is a short drive and a cheap purchase for the proper tool. lol

Bizarre. I have been driving vehicles for over 38 years (not including motorbikes prior)and have only 1 radiator issue. In a 20 + year old car. That had over 200 thousand miles on it. It had a hard life driving all over Europe and then back in the states. Sat around rotting in a field before I got my hands on it. I have off road'd things hard for decades. And of course been on pavement all these years and that 1 old car was the only one that ever had a radiator issue. The fact you had 2 in such a short time span, let lone this thing in less than 4 years of its life and it is a road car? Very odd. It is an EV going road car. How can the radiator get something impacting it and nobody notice a noise?

Kia puts the fear of god in you with their EVs. You’re only supposed to use their EV specific battery coolant since regular coolant (like for ICE cars) is different. Made my heart skip a beat when you pored that other coolant in.

Antifreeze also has rust and corrosion inhibitors, so that rust and corrosion doesn't form inside the cooling system and clog up or destroy components, such as the radiator. Plain water causes immediate rusting and corrosion to form.

It will continue to leak. There is a fitting on the phase inverter that is known to crack and leak coolant Don’t worry about overfilling it will drain out.

Is the radiator on the model Y placed in a vulnerable position - for example, a rock getting kicked up from the road? If so, it seems like poor design. In 50 years of driving ICE cars I’ve never had a radiator damaged by debris.

It can happen to any and all vehicles, especially ICE cars and trucks with vertically mounted radiators. A plastic and stainless steel mesh screen, purchased inexpensively from Amazon works well on the Teslas to keep the radiator clean and free of debris. 3 years on our Model 3 with no problems in snowy winter graveled roads. I also installed a screen on the 18 month old Model Y. They can be purchased on Amazon, for under $50.00. Any vehicle could benefit from a radiator screen, but on ICE cars, decreasing airflow with a screen could be more detrimental because of the need for greater cooling on internal combustion engines which create high heat and need a lot of airflow through the grill for cooling. Regarding the design. On the Model Y and 3, the radiators are actually mounted at a steep angle behind the front grill and allow rocks, leaves and debris to sit on the fins of the radiator. This debris is additionally held in place on the surface of the fins by black plastic pieces across the surface of the radiator. Check it out with a flashlight. Screening is the way to go on the Teslas. Keeps the radiator clean and protects it from rocks too. On occasion, just make sure that the added screen is clear of leaves or debris. Easy.
