THAT. WAS. FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for showing the jumpy launch! I'm going to take paragliding lessons this spring. It was so good to see a beginner flight. You're landing approach was very nice. Congratulations!
Sophie Fisher why do you think so? The instructor did the final check. If he sees something wrong he has to abort your start. I would give him the benefit of doubt until proven otherwise.
I think he was referring to his tone... No reason be berate a pupil that's already lying in the dirt and even apologized, even though he had no reason to...
If you were the instructor and knew your reputation and students lives are on the line, I'ts NOT the best time to blow smoke up a students ass. FK that shit! You NEED to be bitches at. Being nice sounds like it's not that important. Being an Army Drill Instructor is who I want for a trainer. There's a reason for this conduct and it IS warranted. I don't like being talked down to more than most people, ANS I've been reprimanded in my training. I'm glad for it! It shows the instructor cares. PERIOD!!!!!!! If he didn't, he would just say,, Nice try.
Dude that was awesome. It makes me sad that the first thing you said after landing was "I screwed up my launch". Oh yeah? Then what happened?? Did you FLY?? Those instructors should find another line of work. How about some encouragement for your students instead of impatient snapping? Nice job, man.
yeah unfortunately this field has a lot of high school drop outs who used to work minimum wage jobs teaching people how to fly, alk the while pretending to be an expert in aviation. Hence you get the attitude of a teenager from those who teach. Most of them dont know any more than you, since they've been poor students their entire life, they are lazy at learning and lack comprehension. just learn the basics, and then figure out the rest on your own through books and videos.
Congratulations. What an awesome flight. I liked the way you lost height at the end of the flight and landed close to the wind sock, brilliant!! Thank you for sharing.
Watching this now, I can happily say that the instructor in question has become waaaaay better. I remember those days though. I learned the same year but with a different instructor.
Love it. You’re stumble at the beginning is very common so don’t sweat it at all. The instructor was thinking “launch” and you were still listening to him rather than committed to GO. So you hesitate and get a collapse. Happened to me on a test run with a new motor on my back. I was told to inflate and go and when I got to the edge I got additional instructions that made me lose my train of thought and it was a half baked launch attempt ending in a tumble. That’s when I realized, YOU decide when to go, abort, pause and go, etc. Every new paraglider pilot gets to a point when they understand that they are Pilot in Command. It’s a great ride after that!
Ah brilliant. Loved it. Keep on flying, ace. A wonderful place for the first flight, too. That early hiccup? we all do it once or twice I guess. I was very eager to sit as soon as I felt the wing inflated and landed hard on my butt (harness' butt ?!?!?!) the first few times. Afterwards you feel hey man, it was soooo simple! Truly an adventure.
It's funny seeing this years later. My view of the instructor has totally changed from when I first saw this video. If you jump, you are doing it wrong. The instructor is not there to make you feel good. He's there to help you learn to fly safely. I hope you are still flying and enjoying . (>*
That first attempt was not as disastrous as mine. I tried to jump into the seat over the brushes to the left and tumbled down the hill @$$ over breakfast! That second launch was bang on. No better teacher than experience. First landing on your feet! Nice!
@@garrykennedy5484 you learn to counter collapses and generally as long as you make good decisions you shouldn't have a collapse. Plus, always have a reserve. imo paragliding is a much better experience with the ability to XC etc.
@@Fastie XC records are way further in HG than PG. Weather conditions can change on you unexpectedly and a HG can handle a lot more conditions far better than a PG. My brother and I studied all the statistics for both and decided on HG because of the safety margins. I wish it were the other way around because it's so much easier to transport, setup, break down, and store a PG, but safety and the ability to handle different weather conditions won us over hands down. You are correct that good decisions are important. Mostly as to what conditions one chooses to fly in. But I've seen too many videos where conditions changed causing collapses and I didn't care for that. Good decisions are important in both sports. I may give PG a try as well, but will be more than extra choosy about the conditions.
wow.. loved your video. . and it was a wonderful first flight. . I might go for mine next week but. .. without an instructor 😓.. my only instructor is RU-vid and some videos. . wish me luck
Having just gotten interested in paragliding, and not flown yet, I’ve watched a ton of training videos. It seems like the first thing to learn is good ground handling skills, and then how to launch. This looks more like “run and pray” technique. If they didn’t spend a couple of hours training you how to launch, I wouldn’t sweat the first attempt. Agree with other comments that the instructor is a jerk and should find another line of work. Way to nail a sweet first flight! I can’t wait to start training and flying!!
Just for recommend, you should keep the risers(A) from rapids. You should take them inside of your hands. its safer. Radis shape is triangle and you can leave them so easly. its safer my friend :)
Ok. Congrats on your 1st flight. But I would have serious reservations on using any school that lets you wear crappy trainers and no gloves? Such a short take off too which maybe needed reverse launch? Either way, well done bud lovely top to bottom and nice landing 🤘
I just had my first flight off a little 50 ft. high bunny hill and I was nervous/ terrified and apprehensive. I did a slight momentary pause before nervously committing and the glider almost overflew me but I decided to commit and just kept running and I took off flying down the hill. It was the last part of the day, the wind was just right and it was a spur on the moment thing so it was my only flight today. I don't think there's any way I could have went from that height on my first try. I'm still nervous thinking about 7 more flights from the bunny hill before the instructor feels confident on sending me from the 750 ft launch. I'm just left wondering how your wing stayed in the air hauling those balls of steel down the mountain.
looks like a magnificient flight for a beginner! did you only weight-shift to stear? looks like it.. also i didnt think your instructor was too bad.. the one i had here in norway was a bit harder..
Dunno what you were thinking but I was thinking something along the lines of Jesus tap-dancing Christ! That first attempt got my blood pumping and I sitting down watching ur vid lol
how large is your kite? it looks small. may i know the size? But dude, you shouldve turn around and make it interesting! but anyway, congrats on your first flight! i remembered mine.
My first launch was a disaster. The instructor's assistant who supervised the launch was traumatized after watching me. He made one mistake I made two. Flew the next day and all went well.
awesome........thankyou for the info, im in the middle of deciding with motor or without....with the winds here in Colorado, I think without motor. Thankyou.
ok, I will...im going to start the basics class they have here. like you said, it will give me a clue into the sport. There is a lot of paragliders that fly around here, and land in state parks, so resources shouldn't be that hard. One pilot launched at Pikes Peak 14,000 and landed in Colorado springs GOG park the other day, that would be awesome.
ohh awesome, deans vid clips what if you flew a skydiver 6,000 feet up , then he released, let me ask.........is this do-able.? I watched a similar video like this. what is your take on this ??
