this is a great video and you have a great story. i have been riding 40+ years and you reminded how important a pro bike fit is, i scheduled it the next day and saw improvements right away. I'm not a zwift guy, but excited to see your progress (i was the same, out of shape as a youth, went on to do Ironman). Can't wait to hear your TdF recaps, I'm so sad Roglic isn't there, want him to win so bad! Best of luck, its a great channel
@fpgamemearray
@fpgamemearray Год назад
my gripe with this video is the sit bones measurement. 90 degrees torso angle is not the typical riding position, the sit bones are going to be closer together the more you rotate the pelvis forward, resulting in a smaller measurement for saddle width. As long as he's comfortable on it i'm good, but that test is recommending a saddle for leisure city riding instead of proper road riding.

Awesome video!!! The one thing I wish I would've done earlier in my cycling journey is a bike fit. I only did it after almost 4 years of cycling and I immediately beat all my PBs at local climbs. And as feedback; I really enjoyed how you got someone else to do the "serious talk" and you made funny comments like when he asked where's the discomfort? and you say everywhere hahah

Mate, I had the worst time in a retul adjusted position. mad saddle sores when i increased my average volume from 8 to my current 14-16hs/week. I don't want to be negative on your promo things and, by all means, do your thing, but after I had my fit with James Thomas (yes, the guy in the francis cade videos) I became really comfortable on the bike and am able to push myself harder esp in 12%+ inclines.
@chiefwarmpaws
@chiefwarmpaws Год назад
i think one of cade's videos has that fitter saying the sit bone saddle width thing is irrelevant. but given a 100% increase in volume, surely some new aches and pains weren't entirely unexpected? what did he change in your fit that helped?
@ACanette
@ACanette Год назад
Saddle height and setback. Bar width. Cleat slammed all the way to the back and orthesis for my insoles were the most notable changes. With the exception of a cheap handlebar i had to buy no new parts

I have had a few 'standard' bike fit sessions, this past year, with a new bike, I had my first bike fit using the ReTul system. The ReTul system was an absolute game-changer. My biggest issue last year was some significant 'hot foot' on longer rides, this is completely gone. Additionally, I do not have any specific post-ride discomfort issues no matter the length of the ride. Highly recommend the ReTul system!
@markj.a351
@markj.a351 Год назад
ReTul was trash for me. F'ed up both my knees. Asked the shop about going back and they told me just to email them about my issues.

I would like to stress that the most important part of a bike fit is often the time spent before actually changing the fit of the bike itslef..really nice to see that in this video, the most important measurements are taken on your body to understand potential asymmetries, unfortunately most of bike fits are software only and fit you inside a predetermined "box" which is deemed optimal for a prototype human being..last but not the least, bike fit should be incremental, with small modifications leading to the optimal position, avoiding the risk of a massive and thus traumatic change in your riding position..great to see all these elements in this video! power should not be massively influence, unless your initial bike fit was total garbage...however, you might feel a better "endurance" as the load should be well balanced between hamstrings and quads..once you find your "optimal" position, you should be able to ride more, so eventually, it is an improvement in performance

Awesome vid! Keep this type of content coming. A lot of the foundations of cycling are skipped like having a proper fit. I went for a retul fit and afterwards, I no longer had back pain and went from only being able to ride for an hour or two to being able to be in the saddle all day. Also noticed that my efforts in terms of power were improved and more consistent after the fit.

Another fully “indoor/zero road” bike fit! With new saddle, footbeds etc. $800usd? I’ve been riding since the late-80s and if I had a dollar for every time I’ve ridden with someone who got a fit and within 2-weeks was fiddling with saddle height/angle; I’d almost have enough to buy a Cervelo :). Benji you should ask some real pros how they REALLY fit…even dudes who set up in wind tunnels carry tools.

Often wondered if I should have a Retul fit, sounds like its a bit meh, and at £200 for the fit, £125 for the footbeds if needed, and possibly a saddle at £150. From the UK you can have a long weekend in Mallorca for the same money!

This sitbone width stuff is nonsense, you’re not sitting upright on a road bike saddle so your sitbones as measured are nowhere near the saddle.

Be very careful about bike fitting/ers, it is a very smudgy grey area in the bike industry. The best way to look at it is, it's a rule of thumb. I have been looked at 4 time and they all got it completely wrong, 100% Fact.
