Yep - having gone trough all of this in the past with my grow tent, you better not waste your time with 6" fans. 8" exhaust with about 800 CFM is the way to go if you're going to have up to1,5 kW of GPUs in there. Anything more than that I'd say go with dual 8" exhaust. Long term I'd say use 2 x 6" intakes on bottom of each side feeding cold air from outside and 2 x 8" exhaust on top heating your house. That way you will still be having negative pressure inside the tent which is the key to doing this. Of course it all depends on your tubing, intake air temperature, type of fans you use etc. but you already know from your past experience you can't go wrong with overkill cooling solutions. Good luck.
I put 10 3080s, 7 1660 s, 2 3060 ti in my grow tent same as yours except I got the 6 ft tall tent and I use 2 8” exhausts - I heat my entire house with it as it’s plumbed into my hvac also.
Umm I think i would start with an 8 inch I think 6 inches are not strong enough for mining. I will be using the 12 inch as i need them but I will be doing a full small room.
Return the 6” fan. You guys on RU-vid really need to watch each other videos lol. RPM a few years ago did this in his condo watch that series you won’t unnecessarily pay for equipment that has been proven not to work. Not to mention hobbyists miner has recently did this as well lol.
I have seen both my man… neither put into their HVAC system ALSO different cards/algo crest MUCH different heat. Just like GPUs none are BUILT the same but similar YES
Do you mine full time or do you have a day job? How much time daily do you think you spend maintaining your rigs? Awesome content, got me mining raptoreum.
I'll have my popcorn ready for tomorrow's video, I am really interested to see how this works out for you. I have a ton of space in my storage room in my basement where my electrical panel and HVAC systems live. Easy access to both plus free heat is a win-win!
You're going to.need much more exhaust than a 6" sir. I absolutely love the grow tent setup. It's the best 70 bucks I spent on my rig lol. You'll need around 1000 cfm exhausting, minimum. I have 1200 cfm exhausting mine for around 40 cards
Stop over thinking this project. Cut the hole, 2 rigs on bottom facing front to back, happy pocketchangexd for warmer house. Happy ending, happy wife, confetti everywhere!
Hmmm. Is the upstairs connected to the basement where the air can return? If not you will be pulling air from outside and pressuring the upstairs. Careful how much heat you dump in return, you could trip a limit if a heat pump, and I would make sure you filter the tent well to avoid dust in coil. Also depending on your setup you may not need the fan on top of tent with system running! Not sure how much cfm your trunk line is....
I did this about a month ago after my ac system was running non stop. I live in Miami and it's ALWAYS hot. Even when it's "cold". Love your videos dude! I smash the like button EVERYDAY
Can't wait to see how much of a difference each rig makes and if it compounds exponentially or in a linear way. Example 1 rig = 5 degrees in house, 2 rigs = 10 or more?!?!
It should be linear since the ammount of energy to heat the air in a room in 1 degree doesn't change untill water starts do condensate. However the hotter the walls, the faster they lose energy to the outside so in the end it should be somewhere in the middle depending how good insulation you have
If you are installing into return duct, you do not need a fan on grow tent. Just turn furnace on fan only and it will suck the air for you. If you use the fan on grow tent, then install into the supply duct. Then you will have heat without furnace on. Retired Hvac tech, thanks to crypto.
Please make a detailed video on how you mounted your cpu miners. I get 3 Ross all set up but want to mount on my mining wall. It currently has all the gpu boxes mounted to it.
I would go with 2+2 only, both bottom sides open with some kind of filter. You'll have problems if one of your cards needs some kind of maintenance with 3+3. Also the vent to suck air from the outside would be pretty lengthy and with elbows: the closed system would be under a lot of negative pressure and might not be good for the fan. You'd also need to split it or you'd have different temps in each corner without installing fins in the bottom
