Hunting quail in the western US, it’s interesting to see the differences even within the country. So much regional variation is available, would love to see your comparison between this and hunting Mountain Quail for example. Then pheasants in the Dakotas and ducks in the Mississippi delta for even bigger contrasts. And why stop at birds, elk in Colorado vs pigs in Texas!

Absolutely brilliant video. Stunning!! As a fairly new hunter, I kind of find it somewhat calming/reassuring, that you, with your vast experience also can get nervous when finding yourself in a new hunting situation. I think that, even though you can always ask your fellow hunters, how things should be done ( or at least you always should be able to), there is always that thing in the back of your head asking if you are making an absolutely ass of yourself or not. There´s a fine line between asking for advice and being the annoying type, asking about absolutely everything all the time. Gaining experience can be a tricky thing. One thing is talking about the do´s and dont´s before a hunt, the other is doing things correctly while on the hunt, heartbeat raising and adrenaline rushing. I guess that as long as you focus on safety, then everything will come with time. Thank you for yet another great production.

JC, I would like to invite you to come over to the U.S. next month (4/26 - 4/30) to partake in the festivities of the Spring Southern Side by Side Event and Championship held each spring in Sanford , North Carolina at Deep River Sporting Clays. Four days of shooting, looking at fine guns and of course eating. There will be tents full of dealers and vendors and fine guns galore. Atkin Grant and Lang as well as John Dickson and Son will be there along with your friends from Connecticut Shotgun. You will see many side by sides on display and for sale as well in use on the sporting course. I will personally be shooting in the Dickson Round Action Event and the Main Event on Sunday. This would be the largest and best side by side event in the U.S. by far. A good opportunity for you to see American Classics in action.

TGS Outdoors, As an American...What you experienced, isn't the normal day of shotgun hunting in the USA. I have never had a day like that. I can't think of anyone I know who has had a day like that or a pretty shotgun they take to the woods. Most of the time it is a bunch of guys who get up pre-dawn, pile into a truck, drive out of town to some private property with their scratched up beater shotguns. Maybe some over unders or double barrels, but mostly you will see Remington 870s or Mossberg 500s. Most of the time people are unshowered, unshaven, wearing t-shirts and blue jeans with orange hats, orange vests. If it isn't raining, snowing, it isn't hunting season.
@uplandwild4136
@uplandwild4136 Год назад
I really enjoy your videos. This one was great and the property was incredible. But, I can assure that wild quail will move twice as fast as any wild pheasant much less a raised one. Make some calls and talk yourself onto a world class south Texas ranch and be prepared to be humbled in the greatest way possible. I promise you will love it and I hope you get the chance.Also bring a proper English SXS. Good luck and great work.

Dude needs to come do some dove hunting in Arizona. Much smaller, much faster, and they will fly high, low, and everything in between. They also have this weird ability to dodge your shots. Not even kidding. You'll line up the lead, pull the trigger, and the dove with just drop and loop right under your shot. There is also the challenge of shooting only the dove and not any of the several other species of small birds flying in similar patterns in similar places.

Not talking away anything from that hunt, it looked amazing! However, to me at least, if you want a true American hunting experience, it should be wild game on public ground and maybe surprisingly, there is still quite a bit to be had. It would be fascinating for you and Reid to write a book together opining on the opinions of a yank hunting in the UK and a Brit and his hunting experience in the States. An absolute must read in the making. Personally, I'm from the northeast, love shooting shotguns - but have an English mother-in-law, so I appreciate the traditions in the UK (I would love to go on a pheasant shoot in the proper attire - sort of a dream for an 55 year old kid).

In Kentucky it's different. We (my family) use Red Setters, which is basically the field breed of Irish setters nowadays in the USA. It's November to January hunting; cold and hard. Briars make it hard too. Use guns like Winchester model 12, Mossberg 500 field, Winchester model 1887 (mostly that reproduction line they did a few years back), Winchester model 21s and Ruger red labels. 20 gauge and 28 gauge is mostly what's used. A lot of people only own a 20 gauge and Kentucky, you can basically do everything with it. Quail her not doing very well in the state, mostly because of urban development lining up with a key circular population swing the quail go through. Supposedly they're on the rebound though. And obviously there are certain fields and certain places that are incredible. Absolutely incredible. Honestly, this looks very gentrified to me, and that's happening really bad throughout parts of the country. Land is getting bought out by large farmers or corporations or rich people. Whole communities are getting uprooted simply because they can't afford to live there anymore. It was interesting to see how they hunt down there and everything... but it's way too gentrified for me, I mean it's a plantation for God's sake. I'm not complaining. Just telling you how I feel about what's happening in America
