The 1936 Fords were beautiful. I'm especially fond of the 36 coupes, but the whole 36 lineup is beautiful. And this one is gorgeous!

I remember riding in my Uncle's 36 Ford as a child....it would slow down on hills due to the clutch slipping, be it got where we were going!

Ed from Edgerton sounds a bit suspicious. 😂 Ask Ed when they paved the roads through downtown Ed, because those look like dirt roads.

Has Ed ever seen a 283 bored out to 4" bore? I have heard the 283 could be bored to about, 4"-, 4.020" or 4.030" bore, making it a 302 cid. Maybe not handle the power a real DZ or MO 302 the cylinder being thinner. Probably a 280-300 HP , use 6" rods keep the revs under 6800 rpm, even though the DZ could see 7200+ , run a high pressure pump, and slightly notch the rods to spray oil in the wrist pin aswell as the bottom of the pistons. I heard 4" and slightly over bored was possible. It may have been done with sleeves, the cost makes no sense, but the guy owned or worked at a machine shop /auto parts. I don't know if I'd trust a cylinder that is basically just a sleeve pressed in. If it works why not go to 4.185" with a 3" stroke it would be like the Pontiac 303 trans am engine, only it had a shorter stroke , it had to perform better than even the DZ 302, or it had the potential to anyway. It could use 2.250"/ 1.800" +/-, maybe larger valves, basically 455heads on a 303,and calling the 301 Pontiac the production version was kinda cheating. The 301 could been a better engine especially the turbo version, (120hp with turbo) crazy, it could had better heads and a cam that actually opened the valves. It should have made 300 easily , with boost. It would be awesome to swap in a 400with turbo in a car with the turbo 301!haha or even the half of a 389 I would not mind having one of these 4cylinders. Or even the sprint ohc 6 cylinder . Turbo that! With 3x 350 Holley carbs. Using a large plenum, and minimize the pumps use all 3 at a 1:1:ratio. And get a reground cam or aftermarket cam. Run about 15 psi if cool atmosphere..

Very cool thinking anyway…. I had found a firebird that had the Rockford brown and a little 301… all the buddies knocked on the 301 Pontiac and it was really funny after that year of playing the mustang boys with the awesome 302’s where a little confused and when they couldn’t find a nitrous bottle really confused….I’d bought it from the church after the nuns had driven it a few years after it was donated for $400 bucks… so after I had the opportunity to give it some love we took her back up and we let the nuns have a chance to drive it around with the different attitude and it was just fantastic to see a couple ladies who weren’t afraid to hit the gas pedal actually really enjoy blowing it out a little and having some fun!!! I actually love a straight 6 like a Ford 300 in a pickup… they definitely didn’t do anything to make a 300 make power…. And they can take some boring!! I’m totally digging the reduction of rotational mass with the piston swapping and crank and cam swap to make balance and reduce the weight and drag. A 301 ponny with a decent amount of cam and a turbo is a decent power plant in that old firebird box and those cars really appreciated some love with the suspension!!!

@jamest.5001, I'd say you could probably read a newspaper through the sleeves of the 283 when done, lol. That's scary...

Did he keep the steering wheel lock in the column? I remember driving a 36, horrendous , couldn't see where you were going at night! and it had chicken wire in the top for an antenna . Looks like the tranny has a pretty aggressive shift kit. He didn't tell that you had to grind a flat in the rear cam bearing if you put a Duntov cam in your 265, otherwise no oil to the lifters.

He definitely changed out the column and you were right about that shift kit at barely above idle it wants to chirp the tires! And no, we did not get into all the details of his Stroker 350 engine build - I suspect there may be a few items there that he wants to keep to himself with a coy smile…
