My First Reaction to Vulnicura by Björk

I want to mention that the music video for Black Lake is amazing. She filmed it in one of the dormant lava tubes that later became part of the Sundhnúkur volcano eruption that is still ongoing.

One of bjork’s most underrated album fr. Better than Post tbh when i just see that Army of me and Hyper-ballad are the only songs that i really became obsessed with and the rest of it was kinda forgettable. But maybe it’s just me. Also if you already listened to this album i would love if you react to Arca. She also helped produce this album. I would start with kick i or self titled. Also i loved your reaction!

The vocals featured on Atom Dance are from Anohni, which she has collaborated with on Volta

I think Björk’s discography really shows her evolution as an artist, she has always been ahead its time, with that been said, It’s more easier to listen to her earlier albums to acclimate and get used to her before jumping to Her recent stuff, Vulnicura mirrors homogenic and vespertine but its much more avant garde and abstract. I think you should react to Post ✨

definitely one of her gems. you need to do Utopia and then Fossora, then it will make sense as one whole piece upd. wanted to make it a bit clearer, the story begins from decay of relationship (stonemilker, for example), then continues to divorce and all mental terrors of it (black lake or family) and ends with acceptance and healing (last three tracks)

The songs are a chronicle of the months leading up to breakup, through the time of the breakup and the months after. In the liner notes of the album, some of the songs had a subtitle giving the songs place in the breakup timeline: "Stonemilker" - 9 months before/ "Lionsong" - 5 months before/ "History of Touches" - 3 months before/ "Black Lake" - 2 months after/ "Family" - 6 months after/ "Notget" - 11 months after. "Atom Dance, Mouth Mantra and Quicksand don't have any timeline places given to them.

Vulnicura is my favorite Bjork album since Vespertine. I was privileged enough to see Bjork on her Volta tour, which is my least favorite of her albums, but it was still the best concert I've been to in my life. Strangers in the crowd we crying and holding each other. It was definitely the most emotional show I've ever been to. She also used the ReacTable instrument which was shown on a big screen while it was being played. Lionsong reminds me a lot of the songs she did for the movie Dancer in the Dark. She used the same singing style a lot on that movie score. Also, if you haven't seen Dancer in the Dark, it should come with a trigger warning. The movie is an unconventional musical with Bjork as the main character, and it has destroyed many unsuspecting unfortunate souls.

9:44: isnt that obvious ? I mean the title, the lyrics… haalloooo 10:05: like you make it sounds like it’s surprising that bjork could have a child haha, so yes they had a daughter together it was 14 years long relationship, (and bjork already had a son but he’s way older already)

A) Not me having a crush on u and ur comment at 4:46 getting me like “😳” 2) I feel the same way about Lionsong, but Atom Dance grew on me. C) “Like milking a stone to get you to say it” is basically a very creative way of saying “like pulling teeth to get you to say it/level with me.” 4) Her album “Utopia” follows this album, but I’d recommend checking out “Post” and then “Debut” beforehand. Björk’s music is a bit like learning to swim. Avoid diving to the deep end first.

Fossora would be cool to cover. And atom dance is such a grower don't give up on it!

The first 3 tracks were actually written before the divorce, the booklet specify how far each song is from the divorce itself, which definetly deepends the impact of black lake when you go from "3 months before" to "2 months after"
