My first Seiko Spring Drive - the SNR049 Prospex LE 

As a Grand Seiko owner: People, buy the watch you like and love. Not because there is a well know name on it! Who cares if the Brand is Seiko, Grand Seiko, Omega or Rolex. You have to enjoy it everyday so chose wisely.

Seiko saw the Rolex Batman and thought, "How can I make this better?" This just entered my shortlist of must get watches.

Who needs a Rolex when you got a work of art like this Seiko.

To earn your living selling watches and still be excited indeed joyous to own a beautiful watch no matter the prefix to the name is not grand, is the mark of a man who loves his what he does. For those of us who watch from the sides it too is a beautiful thing. Long may you ware it and long may you enjoy it.

Beautiful, I would of thought it would of been a 200M water resistant. I know it's not a Diver, but has a little of the Diver look. Love it, stunning watch. Love the Spring Drive tech, nothing else like it. Spring drive is what makes a Seiko special.

Excited for your first Spring drive, I was lucky enough to get one myself. Like most I thought the snowflake would be my first. But like the snowflake this dial is another example of Seiko's mastery of making some of the best looking dials

Congratulations Mark. In fact a Spring Drive movement, has been always like a Holy Grail to me. Since I was teenage and since first fascination of watches came, I was obsessed by idea of combining a mechanical movements beauty and accuracy of quartz technology. The only one remark, when talking about technicalities... (4:46) I wouldn't say "...generator generates electricity makes the hands move..." The generator makes only enough energy to power an electric circuit ( including quartz oscillator ) and to generate electromagnetic force to slow down a glide wheel, which is at the end of gear-train. So - in short words - a main spring provides mechanical energy to move hands and electricity only to power IC which gives a feedback to control a speed of unwind. Congratulations once again. Fantastic watch Marc, so good in fact that I have purchased one for myself, incredibly it is number 62 which is my birth year. I have a Grand Seiko Quartz GMT..fit and finish is without a doubt at the same level. Even though your video is great ..the actual watch looks even better in the flesh, hard to describe it really..the colour chage on the bezel is just mesmerizing and puts the Rolex bezel to shame, especially as its lumed... thanks for the vide that influenced my decision..so lucky to bag one as not many left.

The fact that it is a true gmt movement makes all the difference in the world to me. I would own many more gmt’s if it was common to have this feature. Sadly it is not. Grand Seiko is my grail brand. They have so many beautiful and exquisite watches, that being able to comfortably own one would mean that I have done well financially.

Its really nice, my personal favourite spring drive is the Landmaster gmt titanium. I love the look of it and the way the crown is at 12 .

I love the spring drive so much. That seconds hand movement is devine. The SNR027 is one of my grails.

As I looked at this dial I thought "It looks... Familiar? It looks like... Like..." and then exactly when I thought "Earth from outer space" you said it. Can't make this up. This is an awesome timepiece. Although the crown looks a bit on the bigger side for its 4hr position.

The story you said about the dial design (looking at the earth from the side, in orbit): I had the same thought before you even said the story. That just shows the design really works! Amazing watch.

Mark, get plastic click together sticky back conduit from home depot to hide the power cord for your "insta-counter." It's paintable. Can't think of the namebrand at the moment. Check low-voltage section.

Welcome to the club! I’m excited for you; you really needed to have one. I got a Spring Drive a couple of months ago. It was a stretch, I was like OMG what have I done, but I’m so glad I did. One thing that surprised me is how tough it is. As near as I can tell, it’s more robust than a standard mechanical movement. I’m less afraid of knocking it around. It doesn’t have an escapement or hairspring, so it’s less susceptible to knocks and vibration, and also magnetism, temperature, etc. Aside from just coolness, it’s quite practical. Congrats, and enjoy!
