Every video of you, it surprises me you never get hassled by DOT for hooking chains and straps to the rub rail, very illegal way of securing a load. I suggest attending a load securement course just once, it will gain you a ton of knowledge on legal ways of securing loads. Anyway happy trucking! you're on the right track.

If I’m not mistaken when you’re using chain binders you can’t hook the binder to the rub rail. You have to have a different direct tie down source. Meaning you can wrap the chain through the rub rail and around it but you can’t use the binder on the rub rail.
@deanjames8492
@deanjames8492 3 года назад
Be careful with the air lines going to your trailer. They shouldn’t be touching the deck plate because they can rub through. Also its just an excuse for DOT to ticket you. You also may want to invest in a headache rack if your going to be hauling pipes or steel.

Hey boss, a suggestion for you, buy a cdl book that explains load securement and follow it to the letter! the rub rails are not working load rated and most states will ticket you for it, and all steel loads - ALWAYS use edge protectors, chains will dig into steel and some receivers will reject the load because of it and straps fray quickly so---( the CDL load securement book will also explain the working load limit of chains by size, as well as straps.) A hand ratchet strap has less load limit than a strap that is secured by a ratchet binder that is attached to the trailer

James, Your ALWAYS use edge protectors while using chains on steel will get aomeone killed. The point of using chains on steel beams is so they will dig in to stop them from sliding. If your gonna use edge protectors you might as well be using straps.

You need a headache rack on the back of the truck or on front of trailer.

You did pretty good securement. I liked that you did a mixture of chains and straps, and also layered your securement. However, all your securement is pulling to one side. I would suggest doing alternative-pull; it's much more safe and prevents the load from sliding to one side; however, it is a bit more time consuming (I ain't gonna lie) going back and forth between each side of the trailer. You should also add a makeshift bulkhead with some dunnage at the front of the trailer like a couple inches away from the steel beams. I would have also recommend using more chains instead of straps. And when you are using straps, make sure to add a twist and each end (each side of trailer) and use edge protection to prevent unnecessary wear on the strap from rubbing against the steel beam and potentially ripping. The twist is to prevent the strap from vibrating from all the wind when driving down the road. Also, I don't you're supposed to hook the chain to the trailer. I was taught to use the chain's hook to hook to itself (it's kinda hard to explain, lol). This is just unsolicited friendly advice from a former flatbedder :) Keep up the good work! I enjoy your videos. Edit: I just saw more of the video, and good job replacing more of the straps with chains! And good job with the occasional Load Check / Tire Check! You're definitely a safe driver trying to do all the right things to stay safe.

These guys ruin the pay for all of us. I do not pull anything under 2.15 with my dry van. Not to mention that .. nothing over 20.000 lb
