As an oldie from the U.S., I took a trip to London on my own. I turned 40 there, and had a piece of birthday cake in the Buckingham Palace garden after the tour. I was in London for about 7 days, then made the train journey to Edinburgh for a week of Fringe Festival. It was one of the best times of my life. I have friends and family that I could have celebrated with on my 40th, but I had a gathering before I went on my trip. Sometimes, it just feels good to do what you want in life. I don't have a ton of money, but I save up to travel when I can, and when others can't go along, it's just not an option for me to stay at home for fear of seeming a loner, or whatever. Life is too damn short to worry about shit like that! I loved this video so much. 💜💜

Thank you for taking me back to York. I took my adult kids on a trip to the UK and Ireland in 2009. Our favorite place was London and York. We walked the wall. SO cool seeing the history. i LOVE it. I loved how the accents changed the further north we went. We took the train to York. The country side was so beautiful. We went to Edinburgh....the accents! Loved all of it. Thank you for sharing. I can't wait to go back. I felt homesick for England when we flew back to California. Traveling alone is life changing. I've traveled all around California alone. It's freeing. This video really resonated with me. I'm 28 and have been single for just over a year now, which is honestly the longest time I have been single in my adult life. I moved out into my own place and have been living by myself for almost a year. I took two solo trips in 2021 and have really been learning to enjoy having my own space and my own company. I love that you are empowering people to do the same. Happy 2022 to you and here's to more solo travels in the future!

I totally feel the emotions of happiness when solo traveling. This past week i got on my first plane alone and flew 5 hours across the country. I was going to visit a friend, but for me, knowing i booked the flight alone, with my own money and took a flight completely by myself, made me cry. I have always been a person who wants to do so much, and has no one to do it with. So for me, the moment I was on the plane and looking out the window at the mountains, i couldnt help but cry with happiness and I am still so proud of myself
I loved this video so much! I remember my first solo trip (a week in Sweden and Norway) and going through the same emotions -- waking up on day 1 thinking 'what the hell am I doing?!' and then absolutely revelling in the freedom and joy of it. It's so liberating and empowering. Those quiet moments watching a sunset on your own with nowhere else to be are the best. Love it Mark!

Mark I absolutely adore you and everything you stand for and are encouraging people to do and feel in this video. I'm 33, so I relate to the pre-social media era and also wanting to see younger people today experience life without it, and know that they can be happy. One of the nicest things you can do for yourself, I think, is to take yourself out places solo. Being in your own company helps your confidence soo much. I went through a stage where I did this a lot, and I’m so glad I did. You find that you can love your own company and learn to rely on yourself. Good on you Mark 👍💕 thanks for sharing!!

I absolutely love that you did a solo trip like this! Travelling solo is one of the most liberating, fun things ever and I am so thankful and grateful when I look back on my solo trips in the past, they definitely taught me a lot and shaped me as a person (without sounding too deep). York is wonderful, I did that ghost walk when I went a few years ago too!

Haha omg, the bit about falling down the stairs! I used to live in York, many years ago, and had to do some work on the city walls. I'm the clumsiest person in the world, and I cannot tell you how many times I fell down the stairs, across the path, slipped off... At some point I just accepted that in York we fall down and that's my life.

Thank you for encouraging the younger generation to get out and about on their own! With the rise of the internet came a lot of isolation once kids leave school/uni. Everyone needs friends, but for people who have lost touch with them, getting out and about alone can help give some confidence to get back out into the world and off their phones!
Memories, As an American I lived 6 months just outside of York, in a village called "Wide Open" Been to York several times. Love Love Love the Shambles! Was so glad you visited it. Lived another ten years in South Yorkshore, had to travel up to York to get my fix! Whitby is lovely too! Gotta have the fish and chips sitting near the seaside of course! Next time book a ride on a pirate ship, so much fun! Cheers!

Living in Sydney and currently in lockdown - I miss England so much and I get to see it through your travels so thank you! :-) Please visit Bath or the Cotswolds next - that'll be so fun! Going away on your own is one of the best things you could do for yourself - it's so rewarding and empowering! You also meet the most wonderful people - I find people will come up and chat away when you're a solo traveller vs being with someone or in a group. Glad you're doing this for yourself xx

Awww Mark I love this. It's inspiring for me how much joy you take out of every moment and the the simplest things in life, not taking anything for granted and appreciating everything. I loved watching this and seeing what a great experience it was for you. I've done some city breaks alone and enjoy them but not been to the seaside alone, so may try that next! If i waited to find friends or family to do everything I wanted to with or places to go with them too, I'd hardly do anything! Sometimes you have to just live for you.
