for the people who recommended the song domination (official live video) here is the reaction :D hope you guys enjoy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4I_Jsn-XcIs.html
im fine with this being a long thing for the channel, with being a newish channel its nice to have stuff i haven't listened too and im only sticking to music i have not heard yet, just you guys get the most genuine reaction possible, and with another commenter saying band-maid is a mixture of everything im keen for the content
2.5 years by my calculation. And if we extrapolate at their usual rate of production, after 2.5 years they'll have enough new music for the rest of the third year. :)
These ladies are all masters of their craft. Good luck finding a better rhythm section. Honestly I'd say you can't go wrong with anything they did live. Try maybe Domination Live but really it's all great
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive 10 year back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot. They are currently celebrating their 10th anniversary with the original line up. I flew from the UK to Japan to see these ladies live. I saw them four times in nine days last October. They play 2+ hour sets, no support bands, no encores. They killed it every time! (The concert this live MV was taken from was 3.5 hours long)! That 'electronic bit' in the background was actually a guitar played through an Eventide H9 harmoniser pedal by Kanami the lead guitarist. It was on a backing track as she cannot (yet) play two guitars at once! Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. The idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!
that is one hardworking band, very jealous you got to see them live, can imagine now you having the best time of your life, didnt realize the electronic bit was guitar, that is inasne!!
Yes, you would absolutely love to see this band live. I’ve traveled hundreds and thousands of miles to see them and never regretted it in the slightest.
@@MeteorReactsYT They’ve been coming to the US regularly for the last few years. Lollapalooza was in Chicago. I’ve seen them in California, Chicago, Silver Springs, Maryland and New York. I had tickets to see them at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, but Covid happened and screwed the world up.
Your everyday life will not be the same from now on, and that's a good thing. Band-Maid is love and passion. Band-Maid are musicians without boundaries.
im excited to hear the range of the band for sure, with people saying each song is different gets me hyped, not knowing what to expect is always the best thing when listening to new music
Nice. They are alot more than just chicks in maid outfits playing hard rock, they are more like living cartoon characters that are incredibly talented and funny as hell. The more live footage you see, especially from fam cams, you'll understand better.
Thanks for the reaction. You will find that the Maidiacs are the most loving and supportive fans. Just a couple of facts. "That bassist"- Is the fabulously cool MISA, recognised by most- what ever band you like, as probably the best around right now. You will find that she and her pal Akane on drums, don't really do slow or soft very often. The lady you liked is Miku (Red Rose)- Band founder, Lyrics, Vocals, and Guitar. She had the idea for forming the band while working in a Maid Cafe in Tokyo, hence the outfits although MISA and Saiki- Lead vocals have their own take on it.
"There's a lot going on!" "That bassist has no chill!" "They have a small venue vibe" "Love the backing vocals!" "Two minutes in and I just noticed that they're all wearing maid outfits!" Maidiacs all laughed (with you) as you commented because they all knew this and have heard it before. Band-Maid is that band you discover and cannot believe or understand why they've remained hidden from you for so many YEARS. What you saw was from their 10th anniversary tour final: the largest and longest (3 1/2 hours!) concert Band-Maid has ever played. At the other extreme, I saw them perform at a small venue in Detroit, Michigan last May and they were great! Band-Maid honed their craft playing clubs up and down the Japanese islands and around Tokyo, but it was American fans that put them on the map. You'll not find another band quite like them. Each member has their own unique set of influences and while they use a team songwriting approach, it's the lead guitar (Kanami Tono) and the bassist (MISA) who have the greatest compositional influence. The rhythm guitar/backing vocalist (Miku Kobato) and lead vocal (Saiki Atsumi) write the lyrics, which are worth looking up the translations. They have well over 100 original songs from which to pull together a set list and they are inspiring performers, as they seem to get better every time you hear something new from them. They are a songwriting machine. And BTW: their drummer, Akane Hirose, is incredible! A true Maidiac will tell that their favorite Band-Maid song is the last one they listened to. They don't release their duds, but work on them until they work, or Saiki wads it up, says, "Enough!", and tosses it in the waste can. My current favorites: "Puzzle", "Moratorium", "Shambles", "About Us", "Daydreaming", "From Now On", "Dice" (especially when combined with "HATE?"), and "Wonderland".
The last BandMaid song we've heard is our favorite. So cliche but so true. I think it is a weird phenomenon. Inexplicable except the songs are all so well crafted and well played.
Been a band for 10 years and Miku the backing vocalist and lyric writer worked in a Maid Cafe which are popular in Japan. It was her idea to create a look, a gap.between the music they play and the way they appear on stage. This was filmed at Yokohama area in a celebration concert for ten years that lasted well over three hours. Their live performances are unique and all are outstanding musicians. Hope you enjoy slowly catching up with ten years of material. By the way they are playing are concert in a smaller venue this Thursday with songs that didn't feature in the Yokohama celebration. Yes they really have no weak music.
that is amazing to here, this band seems HUGE and with a dedicated fanbase to will travel miles and miles to see them, its amazing how a band can do such big shows like this one but still give time to smaller venues i LOVE that
Recommendations? Influencer (MV) - similar in style to this song. Dice/Hate (live from Lollapalooza) - for an example of exactly how much the bassist (Misa) does not chill. Blooming (MV) - for THAT solo. Domination (live) - generally one of the best examples of how they sound live. Thrill - the song that blew them up in the beginning. Onset (live) - for their instrumental talents. And then, everything else they’ve ever recorded.
will be reacting to domination next, influencer been suggested alot so that wont be too far behind it, same with dice/hate, im hearing alot about the lollapalooza performance
@@MeteorReactsYT She tends to do that with the unwary.. That said, they all do. Each has a personality and character which you'll discover as you go. Looking beyond Band Maid they have indulged a couple of side projects.. BAND MAIKO was an April Fools joke which took on a whole life of its own and spawned a fabulous mini album, and Miku did a little side project which I really hope she gets back to under the name CLUPPO. I recommend them both.
The bassist's name is MISA, nicknamed "barefoot assassin". The backup vocal/rhythm guitar is Miku, nicknamed "pigeon". Other people will soon fill you in more details about the members. Band-Maid is one of the best live bands on this planet!! For your next Band-Maid reaction, I suggest: Warning! Enjoy your wonderful Band-Maid journey, PO!🕊💕
Now the Po magic makes sense to me thank you for the context, and thank you for the suggestions, i can definitely see they are a fantastic live band, immediately want to see them live
Great reaction 😀 You mentioned at least two outstanding facets of band maid that you will find in many songs from them: The bass sound and Mikus backing vocals ❤ And she is sometimes doing lead, too. Welcome to band maid! 🤟 This is their newest live performance from their 10th anniversary concert in Yokohama. It is in my opinion not their best but a solid one. Try 'Freedom" (live) or "Domination" (live). For an MV I can recommend "Dice"! But, you also could pick a song randomly without doing anything wrong 😊 they do hard rock with progressive and punk vibes, they have some wonderful ballads, great instrumentals and acoustic sessions. Later on you might be interested in the characters of band maid members, it's a deep pidgeon hole 🕊️ Band maid are: Miku (the little pidgeon 🕊️), founder, (backing) vocals, rhythm guitarist, lyricist and a person with endless energy❤ Saiki, lead vocals Kanami (mincho 🎸), lead guitarist and composer Akane (the gorilla 🍌), drums Misa ( the barefoot assassin 🎸), bass There are great fan videos from their live concerts, especially Mikus 'Omajinai time'. And there are great documentaries for each member made by Ohrenje! Have fun with it!
thank you so much for the context, the bass absolutly blew me away and the backing vocals from miku has had me put the chorus on repeat countless times since the upload, alot of people have recomended domination so will have to check that out next, im down a very amazing rabbit hole
@@MeteorReactsYT well, Domination is not my favourite but the live performance is a good starting point for new reactors. Freedom shows their joy of playing and is really catchy. Another one is "Play"(live), which is great! Newer songs are "Influencer" and "Warning". My current (!) favourite is "Corallium" (live at Eggman). By the way: The music video for "Unleash!!!!" is an animation video, very well done!

thank you so much for the suggestions, i loved my introduction to the band and very keen to listen to more, the entire band-maid journey will all be on the channel, im really excited for it
“Great music makes you nostalgic for something you’ve never heard before.” Welcome to the best band this short century. One of my favorite things about them is that it’s nostalgic and refreshing at the same time. I grew up on late 90’s, early-mid 00’s rock pop punk and they make music that sounds like it evolved directly from that time into something more instrumentally deep than what you remember. They mix rock, pop, punk and metal have a unique song for every single combination. My suggestion is never expect to know what it sounds like, just expect it to be the best thing you’ve heard that day. Do that and you will never be disappointed. 😉 This is just the beginning, friend. I suggest searching “Band-Maid Hate live lollapalooza 2023.”
thank you for the suggestion its much appreciated and will add that to the list to check out, the nostalgic feel was based on the instrument tones, it honestly just reminded me of going to a concert in my hometown, and im all for it
Welcome to the fandom!! The Maids are an extraordinary collection of talented musicians and I’m sure you’re going to love them. Arguably the best rock band on the planet 🌎. Next? - “Shambles” - official music video - “Dice” - OMV - “Choose Me” - OMV - “Plqy” - official Live video That’s a start. Might as well clear your schedule, you have 120+ songs of excellence to experience! Take care and rock on! 🔥🎸🥁🎤🎹🎶😎✌🏼
Two thirds of the way through 4:15 "it has just dawned on my that they're all wearing maid outfits" 😂 Too busy listening to MISA on the bass i expect. The grin I got from that comment may last a me an hour or two, thankyou.
Consider this: the backing vocalist you like so much started the band with her as lead then fired herself to hire that singer AND she learned guitar just to fill in the sound.
Band-Maid is best when they are live ! "Real Existence" Official Live or "Play" Live are two of my favorites ! Don't worry they have been together 10 years and have plenty of music to check out ! The bass player is MISA MISA MISA (The Barefoot Assassin =)
New while nostalgic sums them up pretty well. The band composition and how they came up gives them a pretty unique feel. The backing vocal/rhythm guitarist (Miku) didn’t play an instrument when they started, and learned on the job, which left kind of a hole that the bassist (Misa) filled in, so she basically plays lead bass, instead of just the normal bass role. The drummer (Akane) has a metal drummer skillset, but they don’t really play metal, so she’s always doing something interesting with their primarily hard rock style. I’m glad you enjoyed your first taste. They’re really prolific, and you have 10 years of material to catch up on, but don’t forget to give any tracks you’ve heard some repeat listens. They work really hard to pack them with interesting parts that are really difficult to catch in one pass. Their songs are like great movies that reward you more the more you think about and view them.
honestly the more people tell me about the band the more invested i get, i did sense a metal feel in the drums, was too intuiged by the bass and miku, having the song on repeat im loving it more and more
I love this band. They are incredible. You said it gave you a nostalgic feel. I find that their music feels like a fresh, new take on 80s rock. It is so melodic. My favourites are Play, Freedom, Daydreaming, Moratorium, Corallium, Onset, From Now On, Influencer, Puzzle, Sayonakidori, and so much more. And absolutely, watch the Dice/Hate? live from Lollapalooza 2023. While the camera work was not good (they are not Band-Maid's usual camera crew, they're from the festival or Hulu), the musicianship is incredible.
As you go deeper into this Pigeon hole you will understand why Misa, bass, has a significant role in their songs. BM has a very loyal following, Maidiacs, so prepare to be overwhelmed with suggestions. They formed in 2013, still have the original members, have a wide range of music and over 100 videos on YT. Anything live, and I do mean anything, causes most people to say ‘Why haven’t I heard of this band?’
It is a common remark that the music reminds you of your formative years. Except the fan base spans many decades. 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's, 2010's all get cited. You will find that Band Maid has a very diverse portfolio, There is a song for almost everyone.
i can't wait to dig in, i did say they remind me of my teenage years going to gigs, it felt like a more natual live sound, not sure if it was purposly produced that way but i loved it either way!!
MISA is the coolest woman in the world. If you are at a party and MISA comes in, well congratulations because you are at the coolest party in the world. It doesn't matter where. It could be Hollywood, New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, or Des Moines. If she's there, it's the coolest place in the world!
Thank you for reacting to The Band of Maids, Band-Maid. They are an amazing group of maids for sure. MISA the bass player is world class, damn they all are, one way or the other. Band-Maid is even better live than on record, much because their stage apperance and high energy, which is second to none. Band-Maid plays anything from small venues of 250-300 to halls with 1500-200, theaters up to 8000, and finally a stadium of 10000+ like in this song. If you ever get the chance to see them live, please do it, you won't regret it. Please react to "From Now On" next - it's an instrumental, you will from then on understand how good they are 🙂Greetings from Norway
domination will be the next band-maid reaction i will upload, so many people have reccomended it yourself included, so you guys have hyped me up for it!!!
@@MeteorReactsYT The official live version. If you do the studio version your comments will be full of Maidiacs telling you you watched the wrong one. 😂
@MeteorReactsYT I said official live in the original comment! 🤣🤣🤣 So true, though, always go with live when possible. The Maids always do a little extra and the Japanese crowd is always hype! TBF, their MVs are good too, though.
The two-song YT video that melds together Dice + Hate? at Lollapalooza 2023 has a great bass vs lead guitar "dialogue" that I think you'll love. The two songs really together play off of each other very well and should be experienced together as a unit.
@@MeteorReactsYT Yes. Many YT reactors have reviewed the double-performance video in the same reaction video. It isn't too long. And it's a legendary (or it should be) live performance. The only flaw, is that the director of photography doesn't focus on the bass player as much as everyone would wish. Even so, it is not to be missed. And the two performances really belong back-to-back.
@@MeteorReactsYT Akane, the drummer, never stops drumming, so the songs kind of morph into one. They were extremely excited and surprised to be invited to appear at the Chicago Lollapalooza. Usually bands representation ask to be included in big, festivals like this, but Band-Maid unexpectedly were invited by the event organizers. They even got assigned a spotlight appearance at a local venue the night before.
Congrats on finding band-maid. The fun part is now you are hooked and the rabbit hole awaits. The best thing for a musician to get back into/get inspired with rock again. Have fun Edit: it's more obvious they are wearing maid outfits in their earlier stuff so it's OK haha
thank you for the kind words, and thank you for checking out the reaction, great band and from what i seen since the upload there is a great fanbase too, a real dedicated fanbase, and your right im 100% hooked, with the combo of band maid and hanabie. im seeing the japanese rock/metal seen has so much to offer

I’d suggest reacting to Dice and Hate? at Lollapalooza 2023 next. They brought fire to their performance during a mid-day slot in scorching heat after jamming a full set less than 12 hours the previous evening. Cheers!
Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
WAIT MIKU FIRED HERSELF FROM LEAD!! thats crazy, anything to make the band succeed, that is much respect, the more i hear about miku the more i love her ngl
@@chrisegbertkyokay, almost half an hour past and I still have a fat grin on my face about this quote. Wonderful, one of the best short description of Miku - sorry Sir - I gonna steal this for personal use in my environment 😅🤘
My suggestion is for you to immediately view the official MV for Unleash!!!!! It is 2/3 anime outlining how BandMaid responded to COVID, how they kept in touch with their fans and how they banded their super powers to defeat the monstrosity of Covid. Tons of Easter eggs for the fans make watching it even more fun. New sub here. Well done!
I tend to think of Unleash!!!!! as an MV that you have to spend some time earning. If you don’t know their history and quirks and back catalog, it’s a little bit nonsensical to watch.
thank you for suggestion, i'll react to that later in the time, as you said ton of easter eggs in the video and i'll wanna try hunt them out. and thank you for the sub its greatly appreciated ❤
@@daaaaaaveisee your point. It couldn't hurt for him to just view it without reacting. But I certainly agree that a new fan won't benefit as much as a seasoned Maidiac.

Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, and my favorite Official Music Video of theirs Don't You Tell Me. They have a catalog of over one hundred great songs. If you are not fond of one then choose another because it will be different than the one before it and the next one to follow. Have fun with it!
@@chrisegbertky The little hop that Miku does as the Maids are shuffling in from the left just before they trash the place makes me smile every time I see it.
To be fair, only one of their outfits here is really very maid-like: the back up singer here who started the band after having worked in maid cafés. If you go back to one of their early videos you will see they started out with more of a uniform look. Keeping with the maid theme, they call their concerts "servings" and their fans "masters and princesses". The fans themselves came up with the "maidiac" moniker.
Yup! Misa and especially Saiki wasn't too fond of the "theme", so in just a few years they had their own style. Akane lost her skirt for some shorts. Maybe a little more comfy to drum with? I really like Kanamis new outfit. It's kind of a goth-princess-maidish..
Welcome to the fandom. This is just the beginning, trust me. Puzzle is a masterpiece, I highly recommend it and you could do a 2 part for it (studio and acoustic live). A bit of critique, I think you need to work on your audio levels. You was so much louder than the video. GL.
hey man i always accept critism and ways i can improve my videos :) thank you for telling me about the audio levels, will get some mock stuff done for test levels before the next upload, thank you again
To be fair to your delayed understanding of the costume theme, only Miku's costume looks very maid-like in this performance. It used to be a stronger, more obvious, and more prevalent maid theme that they used.
Bandmaid are supporting incubus in may, they met at one of the many major festivals they played in the USA last year. Which, as someone pointed out in a group, means that the two greatest female bassists on the Planet probably met because Tal Wilkenfield was standing in with Incubus at the time. Not hard to see why these bands get on, especially when you dive into bandmaid's heavier and proggier work. (yes they get both heavier and lighter). The old fans will tend to steer you towards their classic rock and maybe punk but often kanami (lead and composer) just goes off like a studio gibli character into a crazy world from her really librarian style regular existence. Kanami and Saiki (vocals) are an item but I don't think the wokest westerner could define what they actually have together. Suffice to say that kanami says she adores saiki and everything she creates is for her, if you hear the lyrics of "Hate?" you will see that saiki has a pretty low opinion of Japanese blokes at least (saying it mildly) so I think she's appreciating kanami a lot but only kanami shares about it. But they are all pretty neurodivergent, saiki loves shoes and trains, she's a real geek and has trainsets. The band gave her a huge lego dinosaur for her birthday and she finished it the next day. Otherwise sometimes she goes horseracing with miku (who has a stake in a racehorse) who is also vice champion of Japan at turbo poker. Akane (drums) is the most social and is often seen with other musicians with whom she's very popular, she is also a DJ under the name "DJ achi". MISA is a goddess on stage but pretty shy otherwise. She is famous for her drinking but actually it's miku who bends the arm and admits she has a problem. Miku is brand ambassador for zemaitis guitars and has boosted the sales of what was a rather stuffy old blokes brand (Ron Wood is associated with them too). They are all very rich characters and each has a relationship with the others. There is a bandmaid internal chemistry that we outsiders only get a glimpse of but they really look after each other. The music comes out of that so we don't need to understand it, just respect it. They don't do selfies with fans or "meet and greet" any more. They purely share with us what they want. But even then they're cryptic. If someone says they have the inside stuff on them, they're lying.
You're off to a great start! The Band-Maid crowd likes good listeners more than reactors. For an older live performance with lots of MISA's tasty bass try "Play" Official Live, (others will recommend "Domination" and "Freedom", they're not wrong but... "Play".) For more of Kobato's backing vocals try "Manners"/"Black Hole" live, it's two songs so have your secretary clear your schedule. Also, MISA! MISA! MISA! For a gritty metally sound with high tempo drums it's "Rinne" Music Video. You want MVs that curl your toes? Try "Blooming" and "Sense". "Wonderland" Official Live is more vocal centric but a metric F-ton(but, you know, tasteful) of MISA's bassplay. Again, there are no wrong answers! Thanks for the reaction!
thank you for checking out the reaction, the band was solid, i do feel like its normal for a first time listener to be drawn to the bass am i right? miku and misa reallly stood out to me for sure
@@MeteorReactsYT Also, Miku Kobato sings lead on a few songs. When you get there, check out "Sayonakidori" live at Eggman Shibuya. Consider making it a double with the acoustic version. Oh yeah, has anyone mentioned their acoustic versions? XD
Welcome to the Maidiacs. This is from Yokohama Arena last november. The final show of their 10th anniversary tour. 3 and a half hour, 33 song setlist. The best part? I was there😁
holy you were there?? that must have been an experience for sure, they sounded fantastic in the live video i can only imagine it being 1000 times better live in person
@@MeteorReactsYT The best consert I've ever been. It was my first Band-Maid Okyu-ji, but certainly not my last. I really hope they do Europe soon. 3.5 hours have never gone so quickly. Welcome, Meteor. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 190 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! Hate? live at Lollapalooza was what got me into these guys when it went viral at the end of last year. The cameras sometimes get a little confused as to which member to focus on, but it's a stunning performance from the entire band. I was in a fan group for another band(The Warning) and everyone was talking about that video, which is how I heard of it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OvtKRZ9xt3E.html
Great first take. Yes, you def heard nostalgia. That song's riff is very similar to The Damned's starting 2 minutes into "Smash It Up", and that little backup vocal line that you liked, "Dan dan didi dan dan!" is the same pattern as Dead or Alive's "Round Round Baby Round Round". So, we got 2 bands from the 70s/80s. You'll find that a lot of Band-Maid songs are greatly influenced from that time period, and most of the fanbase are old guys like me that grew up back then. Welcome aboard!
Band Maid: post hardcore punk, progressive rock, hard rock and metal in a cage match with pop as referee. As good as this song is, it’s not even in my top 20 Band Maid cuts. Check out “DICE,” official music video
@@MeteorReactsYT Absolutely 👍🏽 I grew up on Van Halen, Rush, etc. Band Maid resurrected my love of rock. FYI, my top 3: “DICE,” “Blooming,” “Moratorium” 🤘🏽 Enjoy the ride 🚀

Nice reaction Meteor. Band Maid is at their best live. Please check out their performance at the 2023 Lollapalooza, songs Dice and Hate? Also check out Freedom, Domination, Thrill, Take Me Higher, Day Dreaming, Play, Puzzle, Youth, etc..... Their catalog is enormous and filled with great songs.
MISA (she plays five string) is one of my favorite bass guitarists. I switched my bass amp & cab away from Fender to Orange due to loving her tone so much, though it looks like she’s switched away from Orange. If you like wildly-talented bass guitarists, check out F Chopper Koga from Gacharic Spin and Miyu from Asterism. They’re incredible as well.

@@MeteorReactsYT Here is the rest of that particular file for you. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their RU-vid channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. I and quite a few others, keep files written on our computers/phones for posting in the comment sections of Band-Maid reaction videos, to try to help spread good information about the Ladies. As for what songs, I posted under another comment about "Dice-Hate?" from their Lollapalooza performance, which is a killer live performance with an extra extended bridge/duel section between MISA the bassist and Kanami the lead guitarist. The sound isn't as good as their professionally shot concert videos, but it is from a Hulu on-line stream, and they weren't able to use their own sound engineer for the performance, but it still doesn't sound too bad. Then I would recommend Domination Live, Play Live, Freedom Live, Puzzle Live, Wonderland Live. All of those are taken from live performances in 2020 and 2022. Then Manners-Black Hole, taken from an on-line concert the Ladies gave during the C-19 lockdowns. They have their own sound engineer on the board so it sounds really good. To be honest, the Ladies have over 130 songs in their discography, until you add in the alternate versions of their songs. Hate from Lollapalooza is an alternate version, and you can find the studio version under the releases tab in the Playlist for their EP Unleash!. But with the alternate versions, the Ladies have over 160 songs in their discography. How many 10 year old bands do you know that are THAT prolific?
If you think Miku “Dan Dan Didi Dan Dan” is effective wait till you hear “ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah” from Manners ( one of the rare cases I prefer the music video over live).
That bassist, MISA, has chill but only in certain songs (when she feels the rest of the band is being too busy) for example [From Now On] (this is an instrumental). I will second the recommendations of Lovebites and Nemophila (those bands are kind of related, they both have an ex-member of Destrose (long story), but they are on good terms and have been seen together in their downtime). Nemophila was seen at a Lovebites show, Lovebites was seen at a Band-Maid show. Songs for Lovebites they released a DVD of their concert series Knocking at Heaven's Gate and published some of the songs on RU-vid, good high quality video and audio, anything from that concert series, start with [Hammer of Wrath]. Songs for Nemophila, well they have both Heavy and Soft songs so it is possible to get the wrong impression of the band, they also have some high quality live songs so pick them when possible, a typical song would be [Rise] or [Revive], Heavy would be [Zen] and Soft would be [Life] or [Odyssey]. Asterism mostly instrumental metal, the musicians are highly skilled and fairly young (22, 22, and 24, but in some of the videos they are 16,17 and 19) as for songs [Dawn] is a good place to start. Gacharic Spin [Mindset] is "typical" (this band changes genres as often as some bands do key or time signature changes, so yes mid song).
It is to your credit that it took you half of the song to realize they are wearing maid outfits. Means you were into the music - the best prog hard rock band on the planet. Welcome to the world of Band-Maid.
There are no bad Band Maid songs. Check out their RU-vid site for many videos which will not get copy right flags: ru-vid.com/show-UCJToUvYrmkmTCR-bluEaQfA However, there are other videos on YT which are not on that page. Have fun.
Yes they are over 10 years old but the Band was more or less Hiddensee by their publisher. They didn't really trust the japanese market, so they remained in smaller venues till they proved in the US that they were quite famous and capable to fill bigger venues even when they had technical difficulties. Only then there publisher risked to book bigger venues in Japan.
