There’s this common misconception that you can’t chew gum in Singapore 😂. It’s not that you are not allowed to chew gum, it’s just that you can’t buy gums anywhere in Singapore because gums are not sold here. If you were to bring in any gums from overseas, you can chew them here but just make sure you dispose the gum properly by wrapping them up in its wrapper before you threw it into the trash bin. You don’t want the gum to stick anywhere.
@@thanos6635 Technically gums are not banned. It’s not illegal to chew gums, it’s just that gums are not allowed to be sold in Singapore. I can understand why government here discouraged the chewing of gums because when they’re not properly disposed of, they tend to stick wherever they landed, it’s unsightly and unhygienic. In the movie “Pretty Woman”, the rich guy Edward told Vivian (julia Roberts) to get rid of her chewing gum, she just spat it out which almost hit some passer-by, it was hilarious but disgusting at the same time. That’s not the proper way to get rid of gums 😂
@@thanos6635 The real reason why the government banned the sale of gum in Singapore was that people stuck gum onto the train door, not allowing the door to fully close, and it was hard to remove.
Welcome to Singapore and enjoy your stay! It's not illegal to chew gum here, but it's illegal to sell them. And, those structures you called Lotus are actually named Supertrees. Marina Bay is not a lake, but a bay, as the name implies.
@@jacktoh4552 u can buy, u can chew, u cant sell thats all. I bought big plastic bag whenever i visit Malaysia and whenever custom stopped me, they may ask questions but I always get through without issues.
Welcome to Sg Oli. Just a correction about a few facts : (1) Chewing Gum. You are legally allowed to bring in chewing gum from other countries for personal consumption. The law prohibits sales of chewing gum. The rational is that when people liter the chewed gum, it’s a real nuisance to pedestrians a stepping on them & it’s costly to clean up and also a technical nightmare when someone stuck the gum on train doors causing stoppage to train operation. (2) By the way it’s not steel lotus trees at Gardens By the Bay, they are known as super trees. There are 2 ways of going up the super trees, one is free, while the other up the OCBC observation is chargeable. (3) Sg tap water is portable and u can drink straight out of the tap. (4) U were at touristic spots hence u experience the high prices. If u pop to our hawker centers eg at Maxwell Food Centres, Chinatown Food centres, and all other hawker centers and coffee shops in our local housing estates u will find a decent meal within S$4.00. (5) 80%of locals lived in Housing Board flats (subsidized housing) but its of superior quality way above many other countries. (5) If u live like the local, 3 meals a day, transport costs (taking public transport - train / buses) and rentals (at HDB flats) it’s ranges about S$2,500 to S$3,200. Hope u could stay here for a couple of months to experience the local multi culture. U may want to contact RU-vidr Jonty Tan who moved here from UK with his family. He would be able to provide great info about Sg to u.
But not in a Big Amount of Chewing gums for sure. The officers will ask you to throw it away in the trash bin Infront of them Or they will confiscate them.
You need to come to Singapore on christmas and New Year. On new years eve, at the barge, the fireworks starts at 10.30pm and goes on until 12 am. It is beautiful and you will love Singapore. You need to eat our rojak, chicken rice and popiah. The most delicious in the world. Singapore food is the most delicious in the world. It is a food paradise.
There's actually a McDonald in Gardens By The Bay. Tap water is clean and drinkable. SIngapore is not as expensive as London. You compare Sg MTR public transport to London Tube and you can still get a hearty meal for SGD 3 or 4. Can't do that in London. Though there are stuff can be quite cheap like grocery but depends on which grocery stores one shops at :) Cab is very very expensive too in the UK.
Singapore can be expensive if you eat at the "wrong places". The locals eat in humble hawker centers or food courts. My recent lunch of 3 dishes with rice cost SGD 3 (about USD 2.10). I personally avoid all those stalls or shops that overcharge cos I would rather save my hard-earned money on something else. Haha. If you are a local resident, an annual pass to the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and OCBC Skywalk cost SGD 36 (renewal fee) for unlimited visits. By the way, that Shake Shack near Flower Dome is absolutely overpriced!!!!!!!!!! If I run out of drinking water, I refill it at a water filter. If I can't find any, I drink tap water. It is safe to drink.
Singapore A permit is not required to fly a drone that weighs 7 kilograms (15 pounds) or less that is being flown 200 feet or below. If flying a drone heavier than 7 kilograms (15 pounds) or above 60 meters (200 feet), a permit is required
Liquid refreshments? Just FYI, our tap water is actually portable, ready to drink. Bring a bottle, you can refill it in any restroom. Only downside, it would be room temperature.
U r spending money in tourist downtown. Thats why its expensive. U should go outside of CBD area and u will realise singapore is cheap. A meal only cost you less then $5
Go visit the local neighbourhood hawker centre. You can have a meal plus a cup of black coffee for SGD5.00 !!. or about USD4.00. Is that expensive? You can also drink fresh clean safe drinkable water at any wash room for FREE..
Oli, it’s really not expensive to live in Singapore 😂 if you were to eat at any food courts, drinks and food are actually very cheap and affordable. Next time, carry a water bottle in your bag so you won’t go thirsty. Welcome to Singapore anyway, please come again. 🥰
just because hawkers are affordable doesnt mean the other things arent expensive... look how much alcohol is for example.. buying/owning a car... hdb are closer end of 1 million dollars and that is government housing? living and just visiting is 2 totally different things
@@joshualee8151 Alcohol is not a necessity ... hence taxation, the cost of owning a vehicle ... is a topic of debate, given a small land mass, with a well developed public transport system ... lastly hdb really depends on where you live, naturally choice locations will cost more as in anywhere else
@@wf645 isnt it a better thing for water then what u suggesting? what is choice locastions most are that.. unless u want a 30 year lease towards an area... either way ur not owning it... just pure leasing upon it...
Connecting to the wifi as a crime is there to potentially prevent internet theft, but since wifi nowadays is encrypted it doesn’t really get enforced. Smoking in public is perfectly legal, but in crowded areas you need to go to designated locations.
Hi Oli. New subscriber here. Hope my sub helps you stay in Marina Bay Sands. By the way, the "lake" is actually a reservoir. Welcome to Singapore. The next time you come, remember to bring an empty water bottle. The tap water is perfectly drinkable - you don't even need to boil it. I am not recommending that for some parts of Asia (better check). And if you go to the hawker centre (try Maxwell Hawker), you can get an awesome meals for like $5. And coffee for like $1.20. Your video work is amazing - good job.
Hey Oli, chewing gum is not sold here because people tend to just leave spit them out and leave them stuck all over the place. Some people do so to intentionally vandalize public spaces
Hi Oli, welcome to SG. my birth place! There are many things in Singapore you may find much cheaper than say in London! Glad you have had a great time in SG albeit a short visit. Take care.
OK.seriously, why does everyone (except for some ppl)think that it is illegal to chew gum in Singapore? It is only illegal to sell gum in Singapore. It is not illegal to chew gum.
You have mentioned about all those quek rules here which u did not get entirely right. Was wondering if you did find out about the rules governing the flying of drones here. If not you could jolly well get into trouble with the authority for the rules that affect you directly.
“The Supertrees are a fusion of nature, art and technology and as such, are emblematic of the Masterplan approach. They are at one level spectacular vertical gardens and landmark features, and at another they are the environmental engines for the Cooled Conservatories, incorporating devices for water harvesting and storage, air intake, cooling and exhaust, photovoltaic arrays, solar collectors.” ~ Grant Associates
Thing to note, Singapore has only a few places that allows drone flying. All the drone shots that you took are areas that aren't allowed mate, fines are cra~zy here
I always see old aunties and uncles “stealing” the tap water from parks using multiple bottles. SG tap water fully drinkable if you are thirsty take some water with u!😂
Shake shack is always overpriced so you can buy 1l of Fanta from our local supermarket NTUC for like half the price you use to buy fantastic from shake shack
.... Its not 'illegal' to chew gum here... How is anyone supposed to enforced such a rule... Inspecting the mouth of everyone walking by ?? Its only illegal to sell or import gum into Singapore... So, no legally sold gum... No gum chewing...
An Assembly without permit is illegal, no demonstration (protests), Singaporean are obedient, Singapore is a FINE country, you can be FINE for littering or not clearing table after eating at Food court
You can chew gum which u brought from other country here. But u can't sell here. It's really not that expensive living in Singapore. U could have gone to the hawker centre to buy inexpensive food and drinks. Try it next time .
Feeding pigeons is a crime? I do see local do that at times. By the way, there are free water cooler usually places along the restroom area for people to drink FOC.
@@Oli-Barrett Oli, water that comes from any taps in Singapore is drinkable. Singapore government guarantees you that our water is very safe to drink directly from a tap. All the ice in desserts and ice cubes you get from restaurants and food courts comes from tap water 😂....
Yes it is a crime. The pigeon population would increase artificially and would affect the diversity of life. In fact, the lives of other birds might be affected
Add one more restriction to your list of what not to do in Singapore. You might not have realised that you can't fly drone anywhere you like in Singapore. There is strict control and regulation on flying drones here. You need permissions for that.
A very common misinformation by all the foreigners about chewing gum in Singapore. It is Not illegal to chew gum but it is illegal to spit it out indiscriminately.
Hi Sir Oily B 😚 'Tis totally *legal* to chew bubble gum here in XinJiaPo But NOT legal to sell them Herein lies the difference Still, with govt permission, certain medicinal gum, it seems, are allowed to be sold Enjoy thy PRC endeavour *!*
Only the import and sales of gum is illegal, but what is illegal is flying a drone without a permit above 60 metres. You have poorly researched the laws here, do better next time, please
