Elvis had more Soul in his sound than people give him credit for.

You can see his whole body on the Ed Sullivan Show but in later episodes they cropped him up to his chest haha. Ed Sullivan was probably told not to bring Elvis back on the show at all, but Ed believed Elvis was one of the nicest people he ever met so he was happy to have Elvis there.

Elvis was a personal friend i have lived in Memphis since the early 70's i met him when i was 17 yrs old. I won a radio show contest the prize was a day with Elvis. I saw him before he passed we had a short talk i was crying he gave me a kiss on the cheek and said i love ya kiddo i said i love you too E. That was the last time i saw my friend alive again. I walk past Graceland everyday without fail. i live on EP Blvd. much love from Memphis Tn. It's just a song no real people that he's talking about. Elvis was a genuine sweet man and i will never forget my friend. He was bloated and very sick he was not fat.

@@williamquinlan2193 Thankyou! So ridiculous this childish 'fat' Elvis & 'skinny' Elvis 🙄 omg Firstly he was a TEEN when he was 1st famous...19...whos isnt slender (ok yh MUCH rare these days...large seems to be the norm) in the 50's most people were althletic n slender...always out doing stuff...Elvis was great at football..all sports ...karate expert...Anyhows...Elvis stayed the same size almost ALL his life...obviously became more muscular as he matured...look at Suspicious Minds in approx 1970...fit as anything and mid 30's....still fit in his global concert and Madison Square concerts...73/74(?) So it was ONLY in his last COUPLE OF YRS...75-77 (an remember he died in the summer of 77 so really last 18 MONTHS he did gain weight ) due to illness/overworking/depression....he wasnt happy with his life...and the hope he had to get into serious acting was swept away by that pimp manager of his when Babara Streisland insisted Elvis be her lead man in "A Star is Born"....Elvis agreed n was really excited to do it...but the colonal insisted on a fee he knew was not gonna b accepted so after alot of negotiating Elvis lost the part that couldve revived his life....he became very disillusioned...was dead not long after! If anyone cares to watch the videos of Elvis on his last tour/concert even i was surprised how slim he looked..coming off his plane in a tracksuit he doesnt look overly fat...just a bit plump compared to his younger self...who doesnt put on a few pounds! Ffs compared to many of todays stars and normal people Elvis looks positivly skinny lolol And being slender ANY weight gain is more noticeable...a larger person can absorb a stone or 3 sometimes without much difference n noone notices...even half a stone on a slim person & its like "omg are u pregnant!!!?" (Obvs female). So can we PLZ stop goin on about this myth of a fat&thin Elvis....🤟🏼😴🤤 BORING
@bendobbing7015
@bendobbing7015 3 года назад
From what I understand, he put on weight because he did eat alot of fatty foods but the main cause was that he had a twisted colon meaning his intestine ended up blocked. This would make him seem puffed up and overweight for days until he could finally release that pressure and he would normal again within a matter of hours.
@3SeveredHeads
@3SeveredHeads 3 года назад
@@bendobbing7015 yes ur right Elvis liked his unusual food combos that were more "comfort food"...but he mustve been in so much pain..not just physically but emotionally, creatively and intellectually! I cant imagine how frustrated he mustve felt...no wonder he occasioanally shot at a tv or ranted about something out of the blue at times!! All he did was perform at set times...his "release" from a guilded cage. He might as well have been put in a full body plaster cast head to toe in between shows for all the suppression of his other desires he endured. He was interested in so many subjects...wanted to travel...be taken more seriously regarding acting & searched his whole life for meaning. Reading was probably one of his few ways to "escape" & i dont blame him for wanting to "get out of it" more towards the end of his life...who wouldnt...everyone using you, being wheeled out for performances that became stale even for him despite still having a fantastic voice & not knowing what to do next. Plus a media just plain nasty coz he wasnt the young 20 something still...& "friends" so annoyed at "being sacked without any money" (!!!!???? Er what about those DECADES of cash, cars, homes, free 1st class everything...jewellry...an more im sure! Not thought save a BIT just in case something happened to ur "friend"!?) they HAVE TO write a book about Elvis...mostly negative OF COURSE coz thats what real mates do ...make more cash out of you not get a job of their own & still be there for him 🙄 I hope Elvis faked his death & is now reborn as Pastor Bob...i really do...either way he is at peace...much deserved 💖💫 A shining example of a real humane human giving his all despite all the knocks he recieved personally..& ridiculously STILL does in 2020...Ur forever loved Elvis ur echo will continue thru history 🤟🏼👊🏽

Some music historians trace the idea of a singer having backup dancers to Elvis' Jailhouse Rock. He choreographed this number and it's one of the first times where a performer put specific moves to a specific song. The impact he had on what we think of standard for the music industry is far greater than anyone knows but Elvis wouldn't take credit since he hated his nickname of "King," and the credit that he invented rock n roll.

Sorry, I love Elvis just as much as you, but he did not create these moves. He adopted them from the Blues and R&B dancers that he grew up playing with. I'm not gonna act like he stole the moves because that's just how exposure goes, but he didn't invent the moves. He rocked the moves for sure and did them better than most at the time.

@@TheBlackQueen Please show those that he got those moves from. Those were his moves. Period.

Elvis grew up going to black clubs in Memphis such as The Flamingo Room. He would watch performers such as Calvin Newborn & Billy Emerson who were known for their flamboyant dance moves (Newborn was known for standing on his toes whilst playing guitar). Yes Elvis was a great performer, but he was heavily influenced by black culture.

• Well, I'm going to have to agree to disagree with some of you on this one guys. I'm not saying he never saw anyone else dancing or wasnt slightly influenced by others but, I feel what he did on a national stage was completely his own. He was much more original then I think people give him credit for. And, also, from a much more "broader perspective" he opened the door drastically for this type of stage entertainment on a national level. The majority of his original fan base grew up listening to a voice on a radio... it's a completely different experience to actually be able to "SEE" him moving around and feeling the music. Elvis had the looks, had the charisma, had the talent, had the style, and had the exposure to become what he was and still is... the King of Rock and Roll. In my humble opinion lol 😉

My best friend was was Elvis close friend and personal assistant. He and Elvis were great friends and Elvis shared lots of thoughts with him. He and I have talked a great deal about Elvis. The personal stories the public would really love to hear.

He was doing Michael Jackson before Michael Jackson was doing Michael Jackson. Also Michael used to come to Elvis’ shows in Vegas to watch him work the crowd with his performances.❤

Elvis grew up adoring listening to and singing gospel music. He spent a lot of his time in the company of the black community.

If you haven’t already check out his performance of Hound Dog on the Milton Berle show. Also watch his Las Vegas 1970 performances of Suspicious Minds & Polk Salad Annie to see how he incorporated his karate training into his moves. In the Ghetto from that same concert as well as If I Can Dream from the ‘68 Comeback Special are also must sees. These are just the tip of the iceberg.
