What’s really amazing is that, if I’m not mistaken, this was a one time reunion after like 30 years. And they still sound so beautiful together. Edit: Just heard you say 2009, so even longer.
@beverlybrown2673
@beverlybrown2673 Год назад
This live reunion concert was decades after the original recording and release of this song, and their voices are well past their prime. To experience the true power and beauty of their music, listen to their 5 studio albums.
@HRConsultant_Jeff
@HRConsultant_Jeff Год назад
I have to disagree a little. I was at their concert during this reunion tour and Art Garfunkel's voice carried over the crowd in the arena as if it needed no microphone. They sounded better in person on many numbers than they did on the records as it was more stripped away and not as much over production as they had on many of their later albums. Don't get me wrong, they were no longer 25 years old and the original albums were huge, but a live performance once they had mellowed is a whole separate experience and I was happy to be there. They also had the Everly Brothers touring with them and that was a great addition and they even did a couple of songs together with the 4 of them.

They're well past their prime here but still in unbelievable form. I love this performance, even if it doesn't match the Live 1969 album version or the Carnegie Hall 1969 version.

This song was recorded in August to November 1969 and released January 1970 . Both have beautiful voices , but when they sing together it's magic . You are spoiling us tonight , with 2 uploads !! . Great info in the Pop Ups , and if you've got something worthwhile to say , it doesn't matter where you pause ... Just my opinion !! . I don't think they are performing as a duo at the moment . Great Work Mia !! ♥️

There is a live version from 1969 when they introduced this as one of their new songs that is extraordinary. Just as good as the album, when Artie still had his pipes.

@@garryhall9519 That Live 1969 version and the Carnegie Hall version from 1969 are the two best live renditions of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” I love the unvarnished quality with just Artie and piano accompaniment.

I just love how Paul backs off. He wrote the song, but he knows in his heart that that part belongs to Art. And then he has the grace to applaud him. These two together are like nothing we have seen before or since quite honestly.

I am so enjoying your exploration of music from a time when people actually sang live on stage...no autotune, it was all pure God-given talent. In today's music, the artists sound very little live as they do on their recordings.

Thanks for another great heartfelt reaction Mia. Yes, the studio version is better, Art does all the main vocals in the original version. Unfortunately, there is hostility and resentment between Art and Paul these days and it’s unlikely they will ever perform together again. As someone else suggested, check out some of Art’s solo work; it is incredible! I really look forward to your reactions Mia!

That and the forced duet to include Paul Simon... This song was a huge matter of contention between them, as Paul wrote it but Art sang it and got all the credit. This song wasn't originally a duet so you could see their timing was way off... Art's hand goes behind Paul to correct his timing and they eventually get it right (they have tricks like that to harmonize so well). Should have just let Art sing it like it was originally recorded, but this was a special concert bringing them out of retirement, so they tried something new. I agree the studio version is better if you've never heard it and aren't more interested in their dymanics at this point in their careers.

the reason that simon & garfunkel broke up in the first place was that simon apparently resented the applause that garfunkel was getting when he sang the song onstage without him (interesting in that light that simon got to sing a whole verse by himself here). garfunkel smoked for quite a long time, but stopped when he realized that he was losing his range.

Roy, their difficulties stemmed from Paul being kind of a control freak when Art had the opportunity to diversify into acting, case in point being the movie Carnal Knowledge. The film schedule did not coincide with Paul's intended rehearsal and studio schedule, but Art demanded his own creative outlets.

Art Garfunkel has a great voice, but Paul Simon was the song writer. When they broke up and both went solo, Art's career was less than memorable. He made OK albums, but nothing really star quality. On the other hand, Paul Simon's career shot into the stratosphere because he wrote the songs. Still, they were better together than apart, so this performance was bitter sweet as the two seldom performed together after the split. BTW, you might check out their song called "The Boxer."
