and why wouldn't they? People are the same across generations. If people loved the Beatles in the 60s, they're gonna love them now as well. Nobody gets surprised when kids enjoy Mozart's music, so why is kids enjoying The Beatles a surprise? I fell in love with them when I was in my teens, a decade ago, and I don't think my love for them is any different from the love someone who was there in the 60s felt. We are all people. Fundamentally, we are all the same. The calendar is made up anyway, generational differences are also made up, and in the big scheme of things the 60s really weren't that long ago and the world didn't fundamentally change *that* much.
I hate to admit it, but I didn't realize Mother Mary was a reference to his own mother until 4 years ago, when my younger sister was losing her fight against cancer. Started crying immediately. The next year our mother joined her in the undiscovered country. Next week will be 3 years since she left us, and today is the first time listening to this song since then. Tears are in my eyes again. I can never listen to this song in the same way again, but that is a good thing. Thank you, Sir Paul.
I was a casual Beatles fan until this song came out, I still remember new Beatles songs, something about this song touched me and I became a Beatlemiac, I learned later it was about his mom, a great song,a great inspiration THE BEATLES
The Beatles greatest Band in the history of Music....Paul McCartney wrote this song. It was inspired by his mother, Mary, who died when he was 14. Many people thought "Mother Mary" was a biblical reference when they heard it. According to McCartney, this is a very positive song, owing to its inspiration. One night when he was paranoid and anxious, he had a dream where he saw his mother, who had been dead for ten years or so - she came to him in his time of trouble, speaking words of wisdom that brought him much peace when he needed it. It was this sweet dream that got him to begin writing the song.
Either way this song is a gift from Heaven, cause the Bible says Mother Mary will be glorified throughout all of time and this song to me surely does just that. Another good song that I enjoy is Sweet Mary by Weezer too! But that is 90-2000s rock (different time period) but worth checking them out.. much much different vibe than Beatles but these two songs share similarity in this Heavenly comfort and soothing, that can only be from Virgin Mary and Heaven itself if you were to ask me and I suppose many others.
I’m a 68 year old musician, recording artist, who saw the Beatles in person when I was only 9 years old. My childhood was filled with Beatles music and Beatlemania. My heart melts when I watch young people discovering the Beatles for the first time! ❤ It’s just so beautiful! I hope you get a chance to hear Nowhere Man, Yesterday, I’ll Be Back, and so many more. The Rubber Soul and Help albums are unforgettable classics! 🙏🏻🌷
Im 60. I remember seeing them on TV when Ed Sullivan introduced them for the now infamous Shae Stadium performance. I was very young but I distinctly remember having to sit through some warm-up act that bored us all as we ate dinner around the table with the TV on in the living room. Then the Beatles came on and I remember not being able to make out the music because of the screaming. I remember my older brother pointing out the flash bulbs going off in the stands. You could see police walking along the chain-link fence. My mom asked, "Why are they all so crazy?" and my brother says, "Because they were the first guys to have long hair" That made sense to me because I recalled my father and my brother often arguing over the length of my brother's hair. We only watched for maybe two songs because I remember my dad, who was still sitting at the table and likely having a cigarette and a beer said, "All right, that's enough of that noise. Turn it off and get ready for bed" Sorry, I had a big memory jog there, just now.
I envy the young people of today. Imagine hearing the greatest band ever for the first time. I often wish I could induce amnesia and experience them for a first time once more. But the 1,005th+ listen to each song still works for me too!😆
Not me.. Everytime I hear them and pick up some titles still after 50 years ago, it's as fresh as yesterday ❤ Actually it feels better all the time, the road is still bright 🌄
I can't imagine growing up without the Beatles music being a part of my life. I just wish today's youth would have the opportunity to have all those FM stations we had, where the DJ's had the freedom to play what they wanted, sometimes playing entire sides of an LP.... WHICH, by the way, is the way MOST of us discovered the music; buy it for one song or two, and find 6-7 more that SHOULD have been just as popular.
I nearly cried when I first heard it on the radio when I was 12 years old. I started praying that my dad would not turn it off before it was over as it was the first time I’ve ever heard it. And, he did not.
A different time. Wish young people today could have had those times as well. It’s not just the music; it’s also the experiences that went with those times. Wouldn’t trade them.
The Beatles are simply the greatest ever. Your next Beatles reaction will likely be completely different to Let It Be. So diverse. They wrote music for everyone.
They could write songs like this and then acoustic songs and heavy metal and hard rock on the same album. They were amazing and continue to amaze to this day.
I'm 70 and still Enjoying The Beatles. Not only that my children grew up hearing these songs and remembering them. Now I have a bunch of grandchildren who sing along in the car. The 6 year old Ruby had a Beatles project in school recently here in North Wales and it was an unexpected event... no warning. The teacher was amazed by her knowledge. Her two favourite songs she told the teacher were Birthday and Blackbird... two very different songs.
I love all the Beatles songs. Let It Be, actually is my favorite it says so much with so little lyrics. I know it about Paul’s Mother, and the guidance she gave him. I’m so grateful Paul put it to song. It inspires me every time I hear it. Thanks Paul.
I tear up everytime I hear this song and it's almost always because of something completely different happening in my life at the time. The lyrics are so brilliant that literally anyone at anytime can draw strength from it.
These guys not only changed music, they changed the world! I know it doesn't fit reactor's needs, but The Beatles really needs to be a chronological journey. If you were to hear "I Am The Walrus" or "Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds" without knowing/hearing the progression it just wouldn't make nearly as much sense. Not to say it won't be enjoyable, but if you follow the path it makes perfect sense! It's hard to believe the same guys did "She Loves You" and "Helter Skelter" without some sense of how they got from one place to the other. Thankfully they left us a lot of material in their very short time as The Beatles.
@@viclimited9081 No Jimmy Rogers, BB King, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, probably no Elvis either. Absolutely, The Beatles were influenced by many of the same artists and they readily espoused their love of that music! I really don't agree with saying that those artists were "doing this" before The Beatles. They were strong influences, yes, but they never did anything remotely like some of the Beatles material. Can you really see Elvis or Fats Domino doing "A Day in The Life" or "I am The Walrus" or "Dear Prudence"? I can't!
@@tommathews3964 ......you are so brainwashed. ABBA is played and talked about today more than the Beatles. Elvis changed the world in the early 50's (no Elvis no Beatles) and Sinatra had women screaming like insane people before that. The Beatles were the first boy band - led by clever money making business models. Some bands keep playing for over 50 years because they are "good bands" and love playing - giving their fans very subjective music for a lifetime.
@@viclimited9081 Yep, brainwashed! Not capable of making decisions or observations for myself. Only what I'm fed. ABBA?? Give me a break! Have a nice day!
Oh!!!! I'm so glad you've started on the Beatles journey! There has never been another group like them. You'll find their style is different each time. Please do more of them! Just pick any song, you will be filled with joy, angst, happy, sad, they'll make you laugh and in another make you cry...each song bringing something different. Enjoy the journey! And beautiful, genuine reaction, Miss Sarah!
Sarah- One of the greatest songs ever from the greatest band of all time. This is Paul McCartney singing lead for Let It Be and just for clarity when he says Mother Mary comes to him. He is referring to his own mother bc her name was Mary. She Passed away when he was just a teenager. That was the big thing he and John had in common. They both lost there moms when they were just teens.
Anyone with a super close relationship with mom will be deeply touched by this song. If she has passed, the typical response is a near break down in emotion. I'm in category #2. I speak from experience.
You have a wonderful journey ahead exploring more of the Beatles! They have a HUGE catalog of songs! 2 songs that you might enjoy are: Come Together, and, All You Need Is Love. As usual, another spot on reaction😊
What a voice McCartney had when he was with the Beatles. The best all-round voice, able to do all kinds of songs, ballads, to screaming, and everything in between, and always beautiful, natural, graceful.
Once, quite by accident, I went to the cinema to watch the movie "A Hard Day's Night" and when I first heard the song "If I fell" there, I fell in love with the Beatles for life. It's been almost 60 years since then and I keep coming back to their beautiful songs. From LP Let It Be I also love "The Long And Winding Road"
Sarah: "There is always light at the end of tunnel". The Beatles also sang that very sentiment in "Here Comes the Sun". And "Good Day Sunshine". And ""I'll Follow the Sun". Also their song, "We Can Work it Out". A great post-Beatles song is Paul McCartney's "Mull of Kintyre". A very uplifting tune about his Scottish home. Paul turned 82 today.
I'm a 65 year old white man and I really enjoyed watching this, the first time I held this song I had the same reaction. Just a note, the 'mother Mary' Paul is singing about is his real mother who died when Paul Was a young Teen. I think that is why the song strikes a cord with everyone. it's Real. God Bless, and I will look for more of your videos.
Fellow 65 year old here. What a privilege we had growing up with The Beatles as a soundtrack to our youth. I was trying to explain to my grandkids about the anticipation of waiting for the latest Beatles song to break on the radio, there was nothing like the feeling of "they can't come up with anything better than this one", and then followed it up with a song that was even better.
This song is the title track from the final studio album "Let It Be" that was released on May 1970, almost a month after the group's break-up. It had a lot of good songs on it. "The Long & Winding Road", "Get Back", "Across The Universe" etc.
@Jörn Fiebig In reality, it was a very short time, in regard to when they started recording which was their first record "LOVE ME DO" in October of 1962, so only 8 SHORT years of recording and quickly becoming incredibly popular. The amount of songs they put out is astounding is such a short period.
@JornFiebig they actually were together since 1957 when 15 year old Paul met 16 year old John. John asked Paul to join the Quarrymen, his original group. Then Paul asked John to let George join the band. About at the same time, the other members of the Quarrymen had left. They changed their name to the Silver Beatles, then the Beatles. But John and Paul started writing songs together in 1957 and they played at the Cavern in Liverpool, then went to Hamburg. By the time they broke up, they'd been together 13 years.
We played this song at my dads funeral last year ❤️ He really loved and adored this band, as do I. Grew up listening to this so it’s close to my heart. 🫶🏼 Lovely reaction, I really loved it! Wish u an amazing rest of the day 🥰❤️
I feel so old watching these kids but at the same time that was my first impression the first time I heard it at first release of a 45 record I bought from Kmart❤
You just heard why this group stands alone as its own category. This coming from a child of the ‘60’s who idolized Led Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, Stones as the titans. But the Beatles laid an evolutionary foundation that broke all barriers of creativity through their music.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful and ever poignant song. I've loved this song since first hearing it in the '70s. Everyone needs this message... The nurturing mother energy. Yes...❤️💚💙🤗💜👏
What a wonderful reaction! Thank you for this! When you said that after the rain comes the sun, it reminded me of another great song by The Beatles, called, "Here Comes The Sun". Love you! You're beautiful! Love your reactions!
Reminds of be a kid again at the lunch time sessions at the Cavern, when all the bands including the Beatles where doing cover versions of songs, from the records being brought back to Liverpool by the Cunard Yanks w ho where lads from Liverpool working on the Cunard Cruise Liners sailing between Liverpool & New York. Every band wanted to learn them and be first to do them at their gigs. Now they are the most covered band in the World.
Sarah, I've only seen two of your videos. But watching you, listening to your gentle voice, your calm intelligence - all these fill ME with hope. Carry on.
A couple weeks after 911 I saw a Beatles cover band do this song as an encore. By the end of the song at least half the audience was openly crying. All the hatred and fear in the world. Maybe the answer was always simply Let it be.
I loved your reaction to Let it Be, Sarah. You reminded me of myself when first hearing it many years ago. As the song is for you, its also “reassuring” to me to know young people get it’s message. God bless my dear, well done.
Always my favorite band still have most of the albums and posters from the 60s and yes i watched them on the Ed Sullivan show in my teens and made it to one of Ringos concerts started playing drums than and still do.
Welcome to the magical of the Beatles world . I was growing up with their musics because my father was a fan , I didn't feel much when I was young beside loving the melodies . But as I grew older , the words started sinking in , drop by drop , there are many times brought me to tears and laughs. Best way , put on my headset when alone and just let loose .
Although I live on the other coast, when I got home from work on 9/11 I just needed to hear comforting music. This is the song that calmed me down and brought me a sense of peace.
To be alive on this Earth while The Beatles lived and record their Gospel is a gift for the ages that keeps on giving and reveals more & more on each time you listen.
I said to my mother most recently, that we are the most blessed people to experience this world in this timeline. She grew up to experience the 1950's AND 1980's. And I got to see the birth of computers, electronic music, and sit around listening to AM radio, etc. Kids today will never know what it was like to grow up in the '70's and '80's. The era the changed our world.
This song came in the early 70's when his band was in turmoil and was about to break up. As others have said, his mother Mary came to him in a dream. He wrote a song about it. Most people don't know that these guys were all in their '20s, teenagers when it all started, yet they changed the world.
As a Born and Bred Scouser, the Beatles will always have a special place in my Heart. A couple of my favourites are Michelle and Penny Lane. Penny Lane will always be associated with The Beatles, but a new and up and coming star lived there. His name was Freddie Mercury, he played in a Liverpool Band called The Ibex, that was in 1969. Queen were formed in 1970 and the rest as they say, is history ✌️🎸
The guitar solo was literally the last Beatles recording until the Anthology project in the 1990s. George recorded it in March or April 1970 as I recall. The sadness comes through in every note.
