I used to live in Tokyo. I highly highly suggest you to go to Kichijoji area, about 30 minutes from Shinjuku by JR line. Amazing neighborhood. Tons of cool restaurants, cafes and bars. Great vibes. Another area you MUST see is Shimokitazawa.

Yes me too I lived there for a bit and have had holidays several times since most recently last Christmas. I must agree with you about Kichijouji I last went there in 2013 and it really is a lovely place it is hard to explain as it somewhat differs from the rest of the city.

When you arrive at Tokyo Station, we recommend exiting from the Marunouchi exit. The view of Tokyo Station, which was built 100 years ago, and the skyscrapers surrounding it is amazing. There is also a free museum of the University of Tokyo at a commercial facility called KITTE in front of the station. You can also see the Imperial Palace in front of Tokyo Station.

This is the same reason why I love Japan. It's a country where even the toilets have more buttons than your TV remote, and the convenience stores are basically your one-stop-shop for all your midnight noodle cravings. I visited it earlier this year for our TV show. You must definitely see their cherry blossoms!

@@kevinccc4712well anticipate anywhere from $800 to $1500 for airfare. Really depends on where you’re located, I’m in Cali. APA hotel I usually pay around $700ish. Need money for the trains, just depends on where you’re trying to go. Food, beverages, even some souvenirs are really affordable. Estimate about $700, but all depends on how you like to do things while traveling. Pay for your airfare and hotel a few months in advance so it’s paid off. Go and enjoy Japan! Planning my third trip hopefully this upcoming May.

@kirk3intokyo
@kirk3intokyo 20 дней назад
@@FoofY-ql1gk Depends on your reason for visiting Japan, For ski/snowboarding Jan/Feb would be best. Middle of August for traditional street festivals(can be crowded also be aware typhoons can lead to flight delays), if swimming in the sea is your thing sea temperature is warmest end of August early September( Japan has great beaches on some remote islands). If you don't like it too hot Middle of may is warm but the sea is still cold and early may is holidays and can be too busy). April for cherry blossoms. Avoid June as it rains everyday.

It’s just waaaay too many people and I can see how it can get confusing if you don’t know the places or don’t read Japanese. In Shinjuku Station, I always need to psych myself up, take a deep breath and pause before wading into the sea of people all moving at a fast pace. I need to keep up that pace to not crash into people. Then, when I get to the exit, I pause and exhale hahaha.😂

4:40 - That kid in the background was hilarious, hahaha. But let me tell you my very first experience in Japan... Stress. Because it was overwhelming, but NOT in a bad way at all, but a massive culture shock compared to my hometown in Australia. The public transport was very intimidating at first, and there were people all over the busier stations, but after a couple of days, it was super easy and SO efficient. Loved it! I love Japan, and you can bet I'll be going back there when I can, even with the changes to the JR Rail pass, Suica, etc. It feels... Heartwarming... to be there, and I can't explain why. I guess everyone has a place where they feel at peace, and even among the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, I still felt that peace.

@@shpeen8835 Don't worry, I understand how you feel. It's a feeling that is hard to put into words, but I know you feel that way too, so I don't even need to try to explain. Just feel, mate. Feel.

This is a thing I never could understand why people always either rusing or get frustrated when they get out out of the airport and figure out next step for local transportation. You are on VACATION, relax and take your time to look around and start step by step what you need to do before get in Tokyo. You don't need to stress yourself out to get things you needed. You will get it all done so relax and enjoy your vacation. How I did it, I find a group of tourist and follow them to do all the steps and it would be fun sometime to figured something and share with the group.

Hope you are enjoying Tokyo. Google maps is very helpful since in addition to the train line and the stop, it will tell you which Metro platform to board on, which train car is best, and which exit to take.

And I agree, but also have a paper map of Tokyo just in the case of not having an internet connection, and also (this is personal opinion), I recommend using a portable wifi instead of the SIM cards card because SIM cards are very limited in terms of internet connection, contrary to the wifi that has a better internet connection. Another point is that those who come to Japan with a budget or want just a place to sleep and keep your luggage, I vividly recommend going to hostels, they are affordable and I always went to a hostel in Asakusa, where even some hotels an ryokans are also very affordable, Asakusa is a great neighborhood and I recommend it!

your first time in Tokyo can be a little stressful. This is more to do with how big stations are and getting losy in them. I came over for the first time back in 2000. Imagine getting around without google maps and online info

Next time fly into Hanada Airport easier to get to Shinjuku. Love the business hotels like APA and Stay. Use luggage drop off at the airport to deliver your luggage to your hotel. The yamanote line is the key line tos get around Tokyo. Sumimasen (excusses or pardon me) and arigato ( thank you).

You should have downloaded an app for all train navigation, it would tell you play-by-play. We were there about a month ago with my daughter and that is what she did. We just followed her, and it was great. we spent 3 days in Tokyo via Shinkansen (JR pass) and 4 days in Kyoto and went to Nara, Osaka back to Tokyo for 3 more days and did Mount Fuji, it was an amazing experience!

So cool to watch your video and discovery of Tokyo / first impressions. I work in Shinjuku, just 5min from the hotel you were staying at so it's funny to see you looking at places I regularly go to (the little thai restaurant, the place you had ramen, the ale house, Golden Gai's Deathmatch in Hell, the Exbar (self service beer + darts!). Your reactions are great! They remind me of when I moved to Tokyo 20 years ago. I'm commenting late but I hope you had a great experience in Japan!
