Join me as I take you around my first day in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam 🇻🇳 Airbnb instayed at: abnb.me/fZrf48OoSzb 📸 Instagram: / zane.jpegs ---- #vietnam #saigon #travel
The little girl is so cute. She got 5 on her test (which is like 50% compared to 100%). She prayed to get better scores next time. I did the same thing when I was a kid 😁.
I'm so excited for you, I recently came back from Vietnam not too long ago, I seriously love the country more than ever, I haven't been back since 2003, Vietnam has certainly changed alot from what I remembered.. I hope your stay is amazing, as was mine. I can't wait to come back again soon
I worked in Vietnam for a while for the US government and was obsessed with their Bahn Mi, specifically the bread. It was crispy, pillow soft and structured, all at the same time. I baked breads often and have yet to duplicate my Ho Chi Minh experience. Enjoy!
Love Vietnam!! Enjoy your time there and stay safe! it has so much natural variety its crazy! you can go to Ha Long and Da Lat you'd love it! Its also far more developed than the Philippines in terms of its transport and infrastructure, so getting around will be a sinch. Also a fraction of the cost! One of SE Asia's top destinations, for good reason!
@@richardnuevo Oh come on, let's be honest. Vietnam has an HDI level of 0.703 (high), while we are at 0.699 (medium). They have modern trains that criss-cross their country, modern bus lines in cities and between cities, modern expressways, and modern airports. Have you seen the state of our PNR and our "hari ng kalsada"? Try commuting or traveling at night, if you're not in Metro Manila, then the best of luck to you. Even their squatter areas are cleaner than ours. If you haven't been to Vietnam, it's wiser not to comment. There's a reason it's done so much better than the Philippines in attracting tourists, travelers and expats: infrastructure, lower poverty levels, better public transportation and connectivity. Lower crime rates. Less socioeconomic disparity. No NPA/BFIF/Abu Sayyaf. Being envious at others doesn't solve our intrinsic problems with bad infrastructure and public transportation. We have 18% below the poverty line and have pockets of polarized development like BGC or Makati which are way above the average levels of low to medium development, but Vietnam as a whole is at 6%> poverty rates, with less disparity in their development levels. The same is true of Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. We can't really be so deluded to think that this country with all its transportation, development, and infra woes is in that league *just* yet. Perhaps give it 10-15 years with good governance and maybe we can see a similar reality to what's happening in neighboring countries? But for now, we collectively needs to be honest. Sticking our fingers in our ears and going "lalalala we are number one" on RU-vid will absolutely achieve nothing. I've stated the truth. Zane has also liked it as he knows exactly what I'm saying. Perhaps, you could perhaps just accept the truth too? Vietnam has better infrastructure and public transportation than the Philippines. Nothing more to say on it.
Wow, here is a little tip for you. When someone try to sell you something, DO NOT afraid to say "NO". If you want interesting to try it. Ask them how they sell it. DO NOT let them decide the amount for you. I was shock watching that man dumping a bunch of "Banh Cam" into the bag really fast. If something like this happen again, say 'Hey STOP!". I just want 3 balls... How much is it?.. slow down and take the control of the situation. Don't be afraid to say what you want. I noticed you really enjoy coffee, there is so many options how they prepare the coffee in VN so take your time to explain exactly how you want your coffee. If you want to tryout something more exotic, tell them how you like to try such as sweet or salty side, fruity or creamy like using coconut or egg. I hope this will help your pleasant.
So happy to see your excitement! I hope to be in your position in 20months! Also for any new travellers overwhelmed with the locals trying to sell and show you things...just say, "No money! I have no money!" They will leave you alone alot faster.
There goes the healthy eating with fried spring rolls and fried chicken with rice …lol… am sure it will be healthier the rest of the time . I do the same in another country. My thinking is am on vacation so I will eat whatever .
Everyone going to Vietnam, make sure you have Grab app installed and your card in there. It's the safest, no rip offs. They also have grab food, grab market, etc in the same app.
Try the coconut coffee or egg coffee next time and tell us which one you like it better. Visit also the historical places and the French buildings of Saigon
I just found you and this is your first video from VN. I saw that you have made many other videos since, so now you know that what you called cheap in this video was at least twice as much as you’d normally do there.
I'm amazed that you did research about our major religion! You're right, because we don't have a religion doesn't mean that we're all atheists, the most important aspect of our spiritual lifestyle is to worship our ancestors, which really shows our appreciation for our forebears. And also, I'm glad that you did the right thing by burning incense for Thich Quang Duc, that's great! Always keep that cultural appreciation wherever you go to.
Maybe it's too late to say this (and maybe I just need to watch your other videos before commenting haha), but one suggestion I will make to help with not overpaying is to make it clear how much of something you want and keep inquiring how much it is. If I were you I would have put my fingers up to indicate amounts of foods or money. I get it though that when you're new to a country you don't have a clear sense of how much things normally are yet. But hopefully you'll get that sense soon from finding more foods and be able to stand your ground more to prevent vendors from trying to sell you too much of something! Hope you enjoyed Vietnam so far and have more wonderful experiences to come.
Hi I’m of Indian Caribbean 🇬🇾 I recently did a DNA test the results said that I was mostly from northeastern India and I might be related to Austro-Asiatic speakers of India love from India ❤🇺🇸❤🇻🇳❤🇮🇳❤ but I’m interested to go to Vietnam one day I love your video ❤
You have been around my secondary school, the girl is from my school nearby, Colette. And the monument is Buddha Thich Quang Duc. When I left my city 7 years ago, they did not have that monument there. To avoid scammers as much as you can, you can talk to the students or local people who have the stores, not random vendors. Most students are willing and trying to speak English to the tourists.
Haha! that’s funny massage that’s not special and the boom boom😂. That road with bars and colorful lights look similar to 6th st. of Austin, Texas but that street in HCMC looks lively and fun 🤩
Zane, u will gain more weight in beer. It will also make your tummy big. Eat salad. Everywhere in Asia they have and it’ safer to eat bec most are organic. Fruits and veg in Asia are the best! Just try to find it in different provinces.
I like your view re - religions in VN. And, yes, ask for how much a dumpling and you get a bag of ten for 0.5 mil, lol. It's a lesson when you travel. Stay safe.
The food in the tourist area is often not delicious and expensive. You also face frequent scams. Come to the residential areas to get ''true'' Vietnamese food with low price. Hope u enjoy the trip. (sorry for my bad English)
Bui Vien Street was named the first Vietnamese came to USA to meet US President ..... in 1850 or 1860 on behalf of Vietnamese Emporer ....? Vien ( pronounced like Vienne , Austria ). The famous St is offer for tourists specially Westerners for massage, weeds, sex... etc like " Red district" in Amsterdam. If you like "boys", you have to say you want a "boy". Otherwise, they will find you a "girl " . LOL It is busy and more people after 10 PM. 7 day a week.
Wow veitnam! I would never be able to go to these places thanks again for taking us! I would be scared with ppl approaching me but you look so happy which makes me happy for you 😊
That road is narrow. Zane, when u change dollars in other foreugn money u get by 1 , 5,10 so u will just pay tge right amount and give 2-5$ if u want to give them extra.
Even as a vietnamese I go back and occasionally I get scam too. I get scam in Thailand, Bali , etc but if you have a feeling it's expensive for something you buy on the street just forget it and move on.
Zane where should I start 😂? Did you get a free visa in the airport? How long? There are tons of motorbikes/ mopeds compare to the 🇵🇭 and more chaotic. I always like the Vietnamese sandwich back in the States. Their coffee is supposed to be good. I heard Airbnb/hotels are way cheaper in 🇻🇳. Your 2nd day and you got scammed already! That didn’t happen in the 🇵🇭 I’ve noticed 2 or 3 people spoke English. Enjoy and be safe!
Hi loving all your videos! Did you book and paid your taxi at the arrival hall ? If so what the name off the company please. Is a van taxi available for families? I'm trying to avoid hotel transfers. Thanks in advance.
Thanks! As soon as I walked through customs there was a booth that offered me the taxi ride and I took it. I would recommend it especially since you have a group.
At 26:55 you saw a status " Bo Tat Thich Quang Duc " when you asked the girl and she said " I don't know ". Bo Tat = Buddhist monk Thich Quang Duc : his name In 1963, he committed suicide by burn himself on the street to protest South Vietnamese president 's regime, Ngo Dinh Diem ( a Catholic ). From that accident , VC = Vietnamese Communists took advantage of propaganda to antiwar and it was called " American War ". and in 1973 with Paris accord signed, and GI's withdrawal went home, and Saigon falls to Communists in 1975.
Hi! I've been following and watching a lot of your vids. We had very similar recent travel plans. I was in Bangkok last month for a week, then in Manila for another week! Have also been to Chang Mai, Cebu, Bohol in previous years. Ho Chi Min was rigth before Chang Mai back in 2016. Really enjoying your vlogs. Especially how you've made comparisons of Thailand and The Philippines!! I'm not a backpacker type of traveler, but I do appreciate you exploring and getting to know the cultures of SE Asia! Great job!
quite brave of you to stay at airbnb for $25. Maybe it's just me and I travel with kids, but it needs to be safe with good service. Glad you are enjoying yourself nevertheless.
The tips to travel in Vietnam is avoid eye contacts with people who offer you things you don't want and loudly said NO. If you're polite, they will keep following and nagging you.
