I spent a year on my husky svartpilen 401 for my first bike. Picked up the mt10 last year and Im just a few weeks short of having it a year. It's been a fantastic upgrade. With the rider modes, it allows you to work your way into the bike and power.
Honestly, a MT-07 would be just enough of a upgrade from the R3. I’ve demo the MT-09sp and it just asking for trouble. Breaks stops on a dime, throttle response gives plenty of power while asking to be open up. The power, weight, breaking, and the addiction of the MT10 and R1 is far beyond the R3. But once you have the skills and mastery, any bike will be rideable for you.
if it makes you feel any better, im a fairly extreme adrenaline junky, and i decided to buy a 2011 R1 for my first bike. I crashed it on a 4 lane highway coming over a hill at 45 mph because traffic was at a dead stop and I couldn't see it until it was too late, but BEFORE that it was my favorite thing in this world. Never gone so fast or had so much fun. Full exhaust, race tune, low voidrate racing tires, and a cracked radiator lol
I've been riding a 125cc for 3 years. Just only passed my bike test, now looking to get an Mt10 or the ktm 1290 Super Duke R. I've been getting bored and something more punchy.
Bought my first 1000cc last August. A 2015 s1000rr. I rode it from Santa Barbra to OC california which is 150 miles. Mind you I had not owned a motorcyle for almost 4 years up to that point. i rode for 6 years before that tho. I was crazy nervous! Congrats on the new bike and ride safe!
I just randomly watched this video and scrolled down the comments and saw your comment. I grew up in Fallbrook. I’ve drove to Santa Barbara a few times and that is a long drive ngl
I did the same thing granted not a 4 year gap. But I got a s1k 2 months ago rode it back home with a passenger. Had a smoked visor on my helmet and it was dark outside and about 44 degrees in Michigan. I was basically having a 90 minute anxiety attack lmao
Tbh if you stay in the rain mode this bike is SUPER controllable and feels extremely safe and is still fast af haha. Then again though, I got it tuned so maybe that's why it's more manageable.
Congrats on your awesome bike man, the mt10 is one of the best naked literbikes out there and that engine is a peach to ride. Enjoy it alot and be careful and safe with it.
You shouldn't be scared of any bike like it only goes as fast as you allow it just remember that, id love to be able to own a bike like that id open it out straight away its got to be done, im currently riding a 2002 ZX6R 636!
congrats on your first 1000cc bike, nice choice...wish you all the best and wish you all the fun with the bike...great channel, great videos...keep up the good work
I went from a r3 for 2 years and got a cbr 1000rr as a second bike….a real eye opener for sure the power seems endless but with a lot of common sense they are completely manageable 👌🏻👍🏼
My first big bike that I rode was a Ducati Diavel for a test ride after only having experience on a MT-15 and the place that I was testing it from was down a dirt road..... It was the most terrifying test ride ever. At the end of it, I had no idea if I liked it or not because I was just so happy to survive..... This video reminds me of that day (I saw sense and got a Monster 796 eventually...)
I just recently went from an Indian scout to a bmw s1000xr and holy shit wat a massive difference! It took my a little bit to get used to the extreme pickup and massively better handling.
"I don't wanna crash" it's not a matter of crashing or not, it's a matter of when. As someone who got into a bad motorcycle accident I am glad you are wearing gear, that shit saved my fucking life. Ride safe king.
It's easy to go fast in a straight line, thats just twisting the throttle. But low speed takes real skill, which is why I like practicing it so much! But I do like going fast when I can as well, lol. Both are fun
That little laugh you did reminded me when i saw the monster coming up the stairs in a scary movie. i was so scared that i was uncontrollably laughing in the movie theater. I feel you saw the same monster but on 2 wheels
I rode my Yamaha Tracer for a year before I bought my new 2023 MT-10 ...it was SO shockingly more powerful I actually pulled over a few blocks away from the shop and put it in the highest mode I call rain mode I did it because my brain was calibrated to an overweight MT09 and kept unconsciously giving too much throttle input having said that within a day or so I was used to it and not scaring myself accidently....muscle memory is REAL and you dont realize HOW real until you do something brand new with jarring conquences! Your brain has to LEARN every powerful throttle....and brakes and cluthes whatever might feel remarkably new
Yo bro just bought my first 1000 ccm bike (Triumph Speed Triple 1050 from 2010) and I just hope that u have as much fun with ur bike then I have with mine because 1000ccm is just 👑🎉🎉🎉
Put on a simple decat link pipe with the stock headers and muffler, and get the ECU flashed, and it picks up 10hp up top, easily. That simple mod puts about 150hp to the wheel, rather than the 138ish it comes with. It's a brilliant bike
@@theenzoferrari458 Manufacturers advertise hp measured at the crank. But you lose about 15% of that through drivetrain losses, so the dyno measures the HP at the wheel. Same with cars. By the time the crank HP has to overcome all the losses going through the transmission to the wheels, you end up being about 15% lower than the car/bike maker claims. When you get rid of the CAT and flash the ECU to remove all the throttle by wire restrictions and get it tuned, you pick up 10-12hp at the wheel. Meaning, your new HP at the crank is closer to 175hp...
did you film in 24 fps? why is it stuttery? besides that, i realy liked your video! i drive a 750, max 175 mph :D but 32 years old^^ btw in germany there is always a reason to have a 1000cc its called autobahn.
IMO you did right, using the rain mode to get used to the bike. I do have a filming suggestion, raise your action camera so we can see more of the road and less of the gas tank.
WORST thing about the MT 10 is its THIRST for fuel! I call mine my EMPTY TEN because most of the time is already in need of gas Another bad thing is its geared to high sort of hard to take off from a stop compared to lower geared models (fixable) Also the clutch is way harder to operate than many smaller machines....but the quick shifter sorta makes that a moot point. Another bad thing is its a naked so no wind protection which gets OLD at higher highway speeds. Also stock it is really stiff suspension unless you are heavier I am only 165 plus gear so I had some adjusting to do ! My stock rear tire lasted 600miles to the wear bar and that was break in! No burnouts just all twisties which destroy tires on a liter bike
I just bought a brand new mt-10 less than a month ago. Yesterday someone reversed into it while it was parked and took off without leaving a note - hit and run.
congrats man!!🙏 im thinkin of getting a bike once ive gotten comfortable with driving a car, and getting my drivers license. im thinking of getting a ktm 125, or a kawasaki 125, are those good starter bikes or no?
take a riders course! Dont die! It is so easy to REALLY screw up fresh to motorcycles....REALLY easy you MUST train your brain and you MUST understand motorcycle behavior.....a course ! FIRST thing new to motorcycles is training your brain to automatic muscle memory ...an empty parking lot very slow slowly let clutchout apply throttle go just a little throttle off clutch in front brake full stop rinse and repeat dozens of times it will be fun and is CRUCIAL to not crashing in the first 1 mile of riding....doing this does NOT mean you are ready for the world but you are ready for a motorcycle school to teach the rest....another tip when riding loose hands and arms hang on with knees and ankles push right handlebar to go right (at speed not parking lot slow speed) push left handlebar to go left ....work on this THINK about this BELIEVE this...if you forget and panick you could easily end up in oncomint traffic because you failed to countersteer...THAT has killed MANY MANY new and returning riders! I was off bikes for years and assumed the old "its like riding a bicycle you never forget" hey I rode and RACED motorcycles for many YEARS and I DID foget! Following my brother in the twisties I FORGOT countersteering and panicked overcooking a curve and ended up in oncoming lane! WHEW no cars coming or I would have been dead likely! THAT is why you need schooling! you NEED to understand everything! learning "the hard way" is NOT for motorcycles! LOL maybe for computer games but NOT the real thing! Trust me!
great video quality man, but I gotta say that the audio is killer on my ears, I have a studio headset and the spikes were unbearable. Nice bike, it should be lots of fun lol
These bikes are wheelie machines absolutely love my MT10. If the bike doesnt have its ECU flashed you can get it done by 2Wheel DynoWorks or moore mafia they make the best tunes for these bikes but get it done it turns these bikes into a different beast and it’s fucking insane it opens the mt10 right up. These bikes arnt very keen on running lean. Another thing doing oil changes the oil filter is above the pipes i just found a piece of plastic and you can just rest it on the pipes at angle to drip it into the pan without spilling anything on your pipes. I found once the fuel light comes on you have about 30ish miles left give or take.
I HOPE you meant the FUEL light! LOL....hopefully your 10 is not burning oil like a fool! BTW I feel like it is bad to run tanks to empty as it can damage fuel pumps....Id rather gas up the moment that light comes on rather than play with getting 25 of 30 supposed miles ....which is so variable on a bike like this!
@@dougiequick1 yes lmao i met fuel light 🤣, but i agree usually i try and fill once it gets under half on the gauge but just that one time in particular i was out in the middle of nowhere but thats Iowa lmao
Started on a AKT TTR200 in Bogotá, Colombia, then bought a KTM 390 Adventure also in Colombia and now that I’ve moved back to the states I think I’m ready for a 1000. Thoughts?
Previous owner removed ALL the weighting Yamaha intentionally put on the bars. The heavy bar end weights are GONE replaced by aluminum knobs the bar end mirrors clamp to and the original REALLY heavy stock mirror mounts GONE so that is a lot of nice vibration cancelling tech removed from the bike in the name of style....just saying ....I also installed bar end mirrors but I have em clamped to the original bar ends and I left the stock mirror mounts ON I use one for a phone mount the other will soon be a camera mount
My first bike was also a ktm 390 duke as wel first gen and I've ridden it for 7 years and i instantly upgrade to the 2023 mt09 sp as my second bike and fortunately ive ridden some liter bikes in that time so am not that scared anymore but it has freaking torque for days crazy power more than enough for me
I don't ride track, and I've red lime my s1000rr in every gear, where is the unused ppwer? 100 bikes does have a place on the street. Passing power is great. If it had mp place on the streets they wouldn't sell them With mirrors.
Why u go from 390 to a 1000? 😂 I started on a versys 650, then bought a gsxr 750, then i got a tracer 900 gt. Now im looking for tuono v4 factory (2019) just start slow bro
@@The_Ghost_29 correct, i have now a 1290 superduke. But no hurry in switching bikes right? Ofc u can start on something big straight away. But i wouldnt suggest it lmao
@@StefanSpruit-up8tl Yea that is true, though starting one soemthing like a 600 or 650 is probably the best way to spend money and be satisfied with the bike
@@The_Ghost_29 yes i agree. You need time to study the traffic, get used to the speed, knowing how much distance you need to be at with cars etc. And just understanding bikes. You will make mistakes, everyone does. And you will get in situations which made you scare haha. On a bike too powerful at the beginning will make you crash in these situations. On a 600cc, you will be able to save yourself. On a 1000cc you dont.
Nice bike. Be safe, looks like you make a shit ton of mistakes, hope it pass and just is because as you say you are nervous. Nothing to be nervous about really, just ride.
I'd like a faster bike than my Ninja 400 (ECU tuned) but I don't trust myself yet. Not my ability, just that I might want to go too fast, too often. :) I can wring out the Ninja 400 pretty good in the meantime. :)
This has turn signals and emergency lights. All street bikes have turn signals but not all bikes have emergency lights, depends on which make and model.
Well... I must be a dumb one getting 07 gixer1000 for a first 1000cc and had to ride it in rain, A mode for 3h back home with 15y old tires and bunch of leaks that showed mid journey Lmao
I see. Then even more soo you got this bro. Enjoy the new bike. Only thing I'll say is (I don't know if this applies where you live) Mind out for pothole or random dips in the road whilst one handed... 😂😂😂😂 Ask me how I know Hint- I started on a bmw s1000r 1000cc throttle is no joke 😂
