I know I have already mentioned this, but this is another group that is pretty lore heavy. So you will notice several references to this in the song like the number 11 and the missing Billlie. I don't want to go into too deep a dive on it. Billlie Love was a friend of theirs that went missing, taken away by a monster into another world. So to the lore, they are entering into that world. So kids experiencing something and their parents having a different reaction is a very apt theory for this. The other level of this is them entering into adulthood and trying to deal with the strangeness of adulthood. So again, I think the Peter Pan theory is a fair one. There are certainly seems to be an intentional referencing to nursery rhymes. The Korean word GingaMinga means something about being uncertain about something and not being able to explain it. I don't know if Billlie is 11 since she is supposed to be the same age as them. The 11 comes from the lore. On the 11th day to the end of summer, the bell rings 11 times. I forgot the exact wording of it. That was when Billlie was taken away. So Billlie also represents your true self and they collectively took upon the name of their missing friend. Hence the group is called Billlie. True Self and Self Love are important themes to them. I probably butchered things a bit with my explanation (I also don't want to reveal too much in case you do dive into those videos I mentioned earlier that go along with these music videos). I really love Billlie and the unique concept they were going for. I know a lot of people didn't care for their debut song, but I absolutely loved it and it makes so much sense with the route they are trying to go storyline-wise. It was a bold choice, but Ring X Ring is one of my favorite songs of last year. I liked this one slightly less, but it is an amazing song and I have been listening to it non-stop (along with rewatching Ring X Ring). There is a lot more I could go into. Moon Sua (The main rapper who was a trainee for 10 years with YG and trained alongside the Black Pink members, went on Unpretty Rapstar 2 while still a trainee and then got stuck with no debut until finally moving to Mystic Story), Sheon (the 7th member who was on GP999 but ended up in 10th place so just missed out on joining Kep1er so was added to Billlie in the middle of their debut promotions), Tsuki (amazing dancer, loving her dance breaks and how expressive she is). Love Billlie. I will shut up now.
Just to add - their name is also often written as Bi11lie (Bi + 11 + lie). "lie" probably refers to the lore bit where the girls all tell lies after Billlie Love's disappearance, claiming they don't know what happened to her, or even that they knew her (and one of the lore videos seems to imply they even had something to do with bringing about her disappearance, then lied even to themselves to the point where they almost forgot, if I understood it correctly). The lore really is very Stranger Thingsy. "Bi" is almost certainly at least double meaning: 비 "bi" as in "bimil" meaning "secret" (as in "Everybody's got a $ecret", one of their tracks), and "B" as in B-side - an expression usually in "B-side song", but they use it as in "B-side of your personality" (as Dardove said, your true hidden self). In their own words (copied from Wikipedia): They said the regular name Billie reflected their "B-sides, the inner-self that everyone has inside them". They hope to empathize with people by expressing their "B-sides, while adding a twist, like the extra letter, to create some thing special". As far as I understand it, it is not as much about curiosity, but rather guilt - they are searching for Billlie because they regret their actions (or lack thereof) regarding Billlie's disappearance. Their search is not as innocent as mere childlike exploration spirit, but almost adult search for meaning and truth (and maybe redemption?).

ELEVEN, a number tied to Billlie MV lore back in November before IVE ever released that catchy song. LORE CONFUSION There's a lot of confusion on the 11 stuff in the Bi11lie mystery storyline and the number is used often. I know there are 11 candles in GGMGY MV and pre-release lore videos mention disappearance of a child (could it also be describing Billlie character is a teenager given that the youngest group member in MVs is 16 since January? dunno it's a bit unclear and me being non-fluent in Korean reading English subtitles). There's a song on 1st cd called The Eleventh Day, think that's also when the purple rain poured alluded to in the new Mystic Story logo in MV. The GGMGY story continuation is supposed to be taking place 11 seasons after the disappearance (11 years or seasons so divide by 4 per year? unclear) according to the WHAT IS YOUR B? lore video that runs about 11 minutes. I really need to spend 22 plus minutes and rewatch all 3 lore videos again... though I don't usually get too involved in Kpop lore since DREAMCATCHER was the only previous group that I thought had decent lore storyline in MVs. GWSN 공원소녀 lore in The Park in tje Night trilogy of CDs seemed kinda minimal but I wasn't really paying attention -- I just loved their music, the consistently good b-sides and fun choreography. Now here's Billlie using some of the same songwriters GWSN did (also one of the songwriters of GingaMingaYo co-writer had worked on Growing for Groo GWSN fandom song). INSTRUMENTAL OST Another really unique thing Billlie did (not aware of another Kpop group doing this before) is they released a 10 track nearly 18 minute instrumental OST for the lore video What Is Your B? The intro on this MV is track 10 "a sign ~ overture to Billlie reprise" you can find 2 youtube video versions of each of these tracks, 1 version has standard album art image and other version (also on their vlive page) has different member background picture for each track (those versions listed as Billlie 2nd EP OST from "what is your bB" Track...). Some tracks are shorter rearrangements, 2 ate instrumentals of FAC and EGAS off 1st cd, a piano prologue and epilogue, short orchestral overture with string & piano, one that sounds like a string quartet maybe or maybe more strings, there's even a jazz track 'the rumor - whatchamacallit' that feels a little reminiscent of Cowboy Bebop anime instrumental score stuff (Yoko Kanno was a genius). Obviously the members aren't invloved in that ost just the backing musicians & composers, but it's an interesting addition to their extra material and something you don't see in Kpop. Some fans were like Studio Ghibli music what? (referencing Joe Hisaishi's old anime scores) regarding the instrumental stuff. OTHER BILLLIE MVs You'll need to see their Christmas season Snowy Night MV with the lunar yeti that preceded this MV and debut RING X RING MV done by a famous female MV director (worked with Brown Eyed Girls, GaIn, IU, Sunny Hill, etc.) that song is more experimental than GGMGY maybe not as mainstream accessible as this song with some structural things, but I thought it was one if the best Kpop songs of 2021.

Re: LORE IN KPOP and Bi11lie MYSTERY in official videos (my opinion, YMMV): I'm not usually a big fan of Kpop group lore, mythology and mysterious storylines as a gimmick for getting fans to watch MVs. Only DREAMCATCHER ever pulled this off well IMO plus they had great music (I think the Kwangya / ae nonsense is one of the dumbest things to happen to Kpop a (now contaminating other SM groups) and seeing a group coached to claim they have conversations with 4 non-existent 'members' is embarrassing. Other groups attempting lore haven't interested me all that much either). The lyrics of their songs continue this Bi11lie storyline more or less, but I'm not sure whether that's a good idea to continue in the long run. So far so good with What is Your B? short film & GMY (tsw) MV. Whether the whole Bi11lie storyline pays off in the long run remains to be seen, but I'm loving their music so far unlike some Kpop groups that just relied on gimmicks while releasing mediocre songs. Part of the Bi11lie Love mystery storyline made me want to rewatch the Criterion Collection Blu-ray of Peter Weir's cult classic 1975 Australian film Picnic at Hanging Rock (I've avoided the reportedly mediocre recent miniseries remake). .
