My mother quit her job, moved her entire life to Berlin by car/ferry, learned a new language, built a new friend group and watched the Berlin Wall fall during her first pregnancy. But whenever asked, all she remembers is a specific tree that flowered the entirety of her pregnancy and made her projectile vomit instantly upon picking up the smell. They were everywhere throughout the city, she was sick for most of the 9 months. She took my sister and i around the city as teens and gave us a "vomit" tour. "And on your left is bush no 36, located next to what then was a techno night club. At least i wasnt the only one suffering that time... actually thats how i met aunt jenny."
Joel's finding out story is definitely one to be told in the future 😂 I'm so excited for you to be a mum! In the videos we've seen with you and your nephews, you look so happy and they obviously love you so much, so for you and Joel to have your own little bean is amazing!
I love my nephews so much but there's such a huge leap between being an auntie and being a mum so doing all I can to try and bridge that gap and be as ready as I can be!
I watched Becky’s reaction so many times when you posted that clip on IG, it just made me so happy and laugh so much 😂 and I love that you were so excited to tell Joel that he was in costume, that’s gonna be such a great story. I totally agree with you about the “wait 12 weeks” thing. Like sure keep it off of social media and such but if you know and you’re getting attached at that point, a loss is a loss and people deserve support no matter the likelihood.
I love that I got to meet you at Stage Door at the Crown Jewels in July and didn’t know that you were pregnant and also didn’t know yet that I was pregnant lol.. I’m 15 weeks today! I’m so enjoying being on the journey alongside you! Thank you for sharing your experience and all your joy!!
Carrie, watching you go through this journey is so lovely. I’ve been following you for around…11-12 years now, I think? We’re about a month apart in age, and I’ve been watching since I was in college and you were really just getting started on the West End, and I always felt such a kinship with you. I had my kiddo at age 23, and she’s 7 now, and seeing you go through pregnancy and everything has brought that back but also brought back just all the memories of how long I’ve been watching you dance through life. I feel so much fondness and wish you all the nicest and loveliest things in the world, and I absolutely love seeing you so happy.

I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant and OMG I have never felt so heard! I remember the day you announced you were pregnant on Instagram feeling so happy for you after all these years following your journey through life. Although deep down having a heavy feeling knowing we’d been trying to start our own family for a while now with no luck. I felt this way when looking after my newborn - you KNOW you're going to be exhausted, you KNOW you're going to be up all hours feeding etc, but when you are *actually* experiencing it, it is just something else entirely. I'm watching this video while unstacking the dishwasher with my 3 week old son in a sling. My pregnancy was physically and mentally really challenging and I hated being pregnant! But it was completely, utterly worth it. I'm so happy for you and Joel, it's just the most incredible feeling in the world. Bloody hard! But holding your child in your arms and knowing you're their Mum forever is just... the best.

I’m currently 27 weeks with my second - my first pregnancy now seems like a relaxing dream compared to being pregnant whilst parenting a toddler (and working full time) 😅😅😅 Enjoy it where you can, it’s never the same any subsequent time!

That pregnancy tiredness is really something else! My first pregnancy, I didn’t test until quite late on because I was expecting it to take a while and trying not to get my hopes up in the two week wait. I spent about two weeks wondering why it was sooo hard getting up in the morning when it was lockdown and I was working via zoom so theoretically not needing much energy…then I realised the date, tested and understood why I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Enjoy your pregnancy and becoming parents!
Omg i was the same way with onions!! Onions and garlic were my biggest ick when pregnant even though they are one of my favorites normally. I was so worried I'd never get the taste back but it did come around after my son was born!
I think the “wait” rule had to become a thing because of social media. Exactly as you said Carrie you want your closest people to know so you have support if needed, but I remember going through a period of time when people would post their pregnancy on Facebook immediately and then sort of have to follow up if it didn’t work out. Then instead of sharing that with your support people, you’re having to share it with people who’s business it is not, but if you never post people will be asking and that can be re-traumatizing. Loved hearing about everyone’s reactions 🥰🥹 so very happy for you and can’t wait to continue following the journey whatever you chose to share!

I am in Uni at the moment and we were learning about the craziness of pregnancy and what a fetus is able to do and apparently it’s like moving around doing back flips when it’s still only like a lump of cells which is wild. In my experience "Baby Brain" is real. When I was pregnant with my second child I suffered a memory block. I could not recall an enormous number of musical pieces that were solidly memorized. They seamed inaccessible which resulted in relearn a lot of music. I find it especially interesting that after I had my daughter I was no longer struggling with the recall of music.

I felt exactly the same about telling ppl. I kinda had to tell cause I was also being very sick very often from early on with both my pregnancies so we told at 7 and 8 weeks respectively😊 But yes, telling friends and family early felt good cause if it didn't work out I would have support without having to tell a bunch of brand new information❤
I remember Tom saying once that once he felt baby move, that's when he knew he was going to be a Daddy/Daddy Again, He said that he as a Man, he now knew it was all real once he'd felt baby move. Which is a great way of thinking about it from a Dad's/other parents point of view.❤ Has baby had hiccups yet?? That was my best feeling, and the one thing that I miss even now, and I'm a Nana now 😂 xxx❤
It's so interesting hearing your experiences with your desire to eventually have kids, especially as I'm someone who, as I get older, has gone from 100-150,000% sure I DON'T want them. Switches are being flipped in my head to settle down into my own home and buy a car and pursue so and so career, but marriage is more and more unnecessary to me, and I know that I would never be able to commit to a child and give it the love it deserves. Much more at home raising my cats! Also speaking as someone who gets nauseous for other reasons (chronic pain, also anxiety), I can confirm ginger tea is the BEST for that. peppermint tea as well.
Thanks for sharing. Glad all is going well. When I had my second, and final(!), I was in a relatively physical job - 4 hours a week. As in one 4 hour shift. I only lasted another 6 weeks after getting pregnant because, when I would come home from that shift, I was literally catatonic with exhaustion and I still had a 2 year old to look after. So i had to give it up at that point! It is hard to describe that level of tiredness!

I think it really depends on your loved ones whether you tell them or not if you are pregnant in the first few weeks. I'm glad I never told my mum. I couldn't have coped with holding her grief as well as my own.
hey, how nice to stumble upon your channel after few years... And find out we are pregnant together! I'm a bit further along, 24w. A friend of mine had the same apple craving! You girls are lucky... I could not stomach any veggie or fruit during the first trimester. My nausea was only appeased by meat or crunchy Lays oven baked... It was very hard, as I am usually vegetarian! GINGER is a Heaven sent! For me, i had to cool the tea down, the cooler the better. Or ginger ale! TW miscarriage: we lost our first at 8w after trying for a while and I had not told anyone because we wanted to surprise people at our wedding. It was a rollercoaster to ask for support from my friends and family. Definitely advise to tell your close friends ASAP and never wait for 12weeks.
I’m not a parent so take my words with a grain of salt, but I totally get the not waiting till 12 weeks to tell people, bc imo if the absolute worst happens then you’ll have had the chance to celebrate them with your loved ones before they left rather than telling both that they were there and that they’re gone at once meaning you just mourn together and don’t get to celebrate them too 💔

We recorded telling some family that we were pregnant and it’s so precious. My mum’s reaction was so joyful and I’m so glad to have it on record. Especially as we lost her this year before my son had even turned one 😢
I'm so happy for you. I'm a couple of months older than you and was starting to worry that I was leaving it too late to have children. Unfortunately after try I had a miscarriage this time last year (my first pregnancy) so it's nice to see it's going well for you. It definitely gives me hope.
My kids will be 13 and 21 next year, time flies and they both love musicals and arts. With my oldest I could hardly eat during the 1st and 2nd trimester and then I had cravings for Yorkshire puddings and gravy lol. With my youngest, I couldn't drink coffee til mid 2nd trimester, so I had caffeine withdrawal headaches and something I still hate is air refresherness and too much perfume
This was lovely video Carrie and I hope all goes well with your pregnancy. I come from a family who are currently going through a mirriad of fertility issues. Trigger warning for a misscarriage below. One of my cousins has gone through a couple of rounds of IVF with no sucess so far, and my sister recently told me that she had, had a misscarriage. She was 15 weeks pregnant and was waiting for her 16 week scan to tell us (She's told us this way with her other kids), she's also had no issue with pregnancies in the past so it's been hard on all of us. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, it's such an honor watching you grow into motherhood and I know you are going to ace it!
Glad to hear you’re going well Carrie! And interesting to hear your perspective on the first trimester. For me, I didn’t feel that connection with my baby at all until I started feeling kicks! I wouldn’t even allow myself to call him “the baby”, I’d call him “the fetus” or “it” which sounds funny now that he’s my one year old son! It’s different for everyone I guess, anyway to process it and cope is great I think ❤😊
I bought the same Bon Bon’s! and they worked pretty well, also liquorice sweets 😊❤ I did try ginger and turmeric tea and that helped too, apparently cashews can help too with sickness and nausea 😊❤

Love that story about how you told joel 😅 my craving was grapefruits and apples with my daughter… very odd as I’m not massively into them now 😂 With my son all I wanted was hula hoops but I think that’s pretty much the only thing I could eat!
All throughout my pregnancy I couldn't eat mixed herbs. We had a pot with marjoram, basil, oregano and basil and it made me feel sick just smelling it. Could not stomach it, or black pepper

Aah, food aversions are so frustrating in pregnancy! It's like an intense battle between crazy hunger and wanting to vomit at food. I bloody love green veg, i genuinely thought I'd eat so healthy in pregnancy... green veg was the one thing I couldn't even look at during my pregnancy. It's not even the sort of thing you can just try and push through with, either... just the thought of it was 🤢 however, i did eat an abundance of lasagne, salt and vinegar chip sticks and jacket spud with beans 😂
Talking about Joel feeling a big helpless because he can't help with the growth of the baby reminds me of when some friends were talking about getting ready for the actual delivery and one of the other guys' words of wisdom to the husband is "Get ready to feel really really really ... useless."
So funny that my craving was also fruit - I think for me it was that they’re quite light on the stomach and got a good texture! My main fruit was mango - I couldn’t get enough. Weirdly my cravings subsided in the third trimester and all I wanted to do was suck on a sponge! So so weird!
