I grew up seeing cabovers as a kid. My neighbor was a owner operator and had one. I'd always go over when he was preparing for a run to help begging to ride along. I finally got to go a few years later when I was about 13 years old. I will never forget that ride down to Texas and back

I totally agree. To this day I run a 74 A model. Great old truck. Noisy, loud, cramped, AC works well but not like a new truck... 400 cummins gets 5.2 mpg. Up hill, down hill, loaded, empty. 13 with 3:73s. 36in coffin box. No front brakes from the factory. Aluminum frame that I keep polished. Lots of care and constant maintenance by me personally. I carry some extra parts and lots of tools. Plus the knowledge to fix almost anything in a pinch. On the road today with an older truck parts are very challenging to locate as well as shops that can work on them. The times of good mechanics are mostly gone in my opinion.

Too much *Computer🔻control now-day’s is why no-one can spin a wrench anymore. 💔😔 Also, look at the material’s truck’s are made from now vs. the 70’s & earlier. 😝drastic-plastic has crippled the truck’s of today! Plastic break’s & warps🤬 Get RID of it!!!

I still remember going with my dad in a freight liner cabover to Toronto when I was about 9. It was so cool when you are a kid to climb way up the side of that thing and look down on all the cars as you leave the corner and the whole thing is bouncing you around as the clutch engages. He also drove a western star sometimes. It becomes nostalgic and it would never be practical but it would be fun to have a truck one day to keep those memories alive.

The old Pete 352 Pacemaker. Dad had one back before deregulation and then we used it for a farm truck. 8v92ta Detroit 15 speed and I don't remember the gear ratio. I learned to drive in that old girl. I still love the look of cabovers and drive an old K100 now and then for a friend at harvest time. My first tractor was a 93 Freightliner fld12064. M11 Cummins super 10 and 3.73 Rockwell rears. She was a well maintained fleet truck that I drove on weekends for the company that all of my current tractors are leased to. I bought her through payroll deductions when I went full time in 1999. She wasn't a money pit at all but was a money maker that let me get started. I still own her but she's semi retired (pun completely intended!). My 3 drivers and I take her out now and then when our regular tractors have to be in the shop more than a few hours. All of us ran "Black Beauty" as our first ride and we all STILL enjoy taking her out now and again. Sometimes I think she enjoys it more than we do!

My dream truck is a ‘71 KW C. O. E. That is fully rebuilt & restored with a 🐾😺3406e that’s been through the machine shop and is super-tuned with #Bank’s power-pack, fuel injection performance kit, and has the exhaust enlarged= 👍🏽😈all that muscle & torque stuff, but if You look @ the orange #Reliable-Carrier’s Peterbilt that is chopped & lowered, has suicide doors & side-pipes, THAT is how I want my KW COE rebuilt. 👍🏽👍🏽🥰

That was a nice cabover Pete. And it had a Cat engine...should have been a great engine. I love cabovers... cabovers rule in my book. 🥰 I really like some of the new trucks and options, but many of them are cookie cutter type trucks and don’t have much personality, or as much as the older ones. I definitely don’t like the DEF crap you have to deal with now. It’s getting better, but it’s got a long way to go. I have a couple of buddies that have taken new trucks and converted them over to Series 60 Detroit’s. To each their own. 🧐 Good stuff. Stay safe and healthy out there. 😎

The biggest problem in the trucking industry is maintenance, as he said, I've said it myself any truck will breakdown, I've seen brand new trucks on the shoulder, constant inspection of working parts , front end parts , drive shaft , keep that oil changed, when something happens fix it never put it off,

I love the 352 cabover, especially the 110" cab, I had a bit of a dream to buy one and attach a 70s fifth wheel RV trailer to it and cruise the USA with the family (I'm from London UK) but I think i'd just end up standing on the side of highways with breakdown issues would probably be the reality. Also is the 352 very loud in the cab? that would kind of ruin the trip.

my buddy has that truck. it is a 362. his is for sale. needs a cab hinge and a head gasket. 580k true, certified miles...was a farmers truck and the farmer got all the options for that year. but as a farmers truck,it did a lot of sitting. that is why she has such low miles. you are right about that fuel economy..no matter what 5mpg's he says he will take 10k cash for it. that hinge is not hard to find, if you want to buy an entire parts truck..but to have it machined from the factory blue prints is 7500 bucks locally in Minnesota . he has a channel here on youtube and if you want a link to his truck just reply to me here. he has videos of her. oh ya, he is the 2nd owner and his is a 1985 .

We owned old trucks more reliable than some new ones on the road. Some were as old as 13 and oldest was a GMC cabover they sold her in 2000 she was a 72. Depends on the owner, hell we owned a 99 kw in 01 worst truck purchase ever 250,000 miles studio sleeper. 3 engines, shot a piston out the side. The heads cracked 2 times. Uncle purchased it with a clean history and she was a damn money pit. Our 93 model pete has been sitting for 2 years. Planning on getting her back on the road and using her till her motor blows and dropping a brand new one

I have bought a couple KW k100's for under $10,000 that were over 20 years old but I put another $10,000 in each of them fixing anything that might be wrong with them including 10 new tires before I put them on the road and I put over 500,000 miles on all of them and they had over 1-1.5 million miles on them when I sold them without having any major engine trans or rear end issues!!!! But I have also bought a 5 year old Pete 379 with 500,000 on the speedometer and paid $60,000 for it and 2 days later the engine came apart and cost me $22,000 to fix it!!!!! So it's a gamble buying ANY used truck!!!! And you need at least $10,000 minimum set aside for emergency repairs if you have any used truck running over the road if it has no warranty.
