In this vbideo I try a new teqniqhue, the volcano pour
An acrylic volcano pour is a painting technique that combines acrylic pouring with a specific method to create an eruption-like effect on the canvas. Here's a step-by-step overview of how it's typically done:
Materials Needed:
Acrylic paints (various colors)
Pouring medium (to thin the paint and improve flow)
Canvas or other painting surface
Silicone oil (optional, for creating cells)
Plastic cups
Mixing sticks
Gloves and a protective surface
Steps:
Prepare the Paints: Mix each color of acrylic paint with a pouring medium in separate cups. The ratio of paint to pouring medium can vary, but a common mix is 1 part paint to 2 parts pouring medium. You can also add a few drops of silicone oil to each color to help create cells.
Create the Volcano Cup: In a clean cup, layer the different colors by pouring them one on top of the other. The order of the colors will affect the final look. This cup is often referred to as the "volcano cup."
Flip the Cup: Place the canvas on top of the cup, then quickly flip both the canvas and the cup together. Let the cup sit on the canvas for a few seconds to allow the paint to settle.
Lift and Pour: Lift the cup to release the paint onto the canvas. The paint will flow out in an eruption-like pattern, creating the volcano effect.
Tilt the Canvas: Gently tilt the canvas to spread the paint and enhance the design. The movement will create interesting patterns and help the colors blend.
Create Cells: If silicone oil was added, you can use a torch or heat gun to gently heat the surface, causing the silicone to create cells in the paint.
Let It Dry: Allow the painting to dry completely. This can take several days depending on the thickness of the paint.
The result is a vibrant, abstract painting with dynamic, flowing patterns that resemble a volcanic eruption. Each acrylic volcano pour is unique, as the movement and interaction of the colors create one-of-a-kind designs.
