bold choice for a first Wes Anderson film, it's like watching Tenet as your first Nolan film

Well, Nolan is "quite" overrated... Wes Anderson is a(n underrated) master of details and, over all, a master in colour and photographic compositions.

I don't quite know how to react to people that don't love that movie, the same way I'm confused by people that say they don't like dogs

For a newcomer to Wes Anderson I'd probably have recommended 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' next. It is less weird and more like a normal film in plot structure but still very much in his distinctive style, along with having a great cast, music and writing and being an emotional rollercoaster (how can a film that makes me laugh so much also make me cry?)

Wes Anderson is apparently such a joy to work with that every actor asked about it is told that it’s an absolute gem. Most Wes Anderson films are just the same…star studded and beautifully unique.

I haven’t thought too much about what this film is about, I think you’re probably right about it, but for me I just like it because it feels nice to watch. Watching Asteroid City feels like a relaxing day at the beach in the best possible way
@SorchaSublime

I would recommend thinking about it at some point. I don't mean that as a condescending remark, the movie is very well crafted and enjoyable as a film but its also so narratively dense that thinking about the meaning of the text feels like completing a rubix cube in the best way.

Just wanted to say it was pretty impressive how much you grokked the film after just one watch. It gave me some insight, and I've seen the film twice already!
@SorchaSublime
@SorchaSublime Год назад
If you enjoy quirky movies that have a surprising number of famous actors in them wes Anderson is your guy. Asteroid City is probably his most narratively dense movie yet and every rewatch I appreciate a different aspect. If a normal movie is like a pane of glass reflecting the directors intent this movie is like a well cut diamond with sparkling facets reflecting on all sides

I recomend Moonrise Kingdom for a more messured introduction to Wes Andersson. French Dispatch is his most "Wes Andersson", and my favorite, but I would recomend it first when you are more familiar with his work

@blackblake3658 I didn't like French Dispatch, though I love most of his movies. However, I am definitely going to watch it again, as I wasn't sure about Asteroid City on my first watch. The following day I went back to the cinema and it clicked as my fave Anderson movie to date.

I got to see this one in theaters with my brother, and we were both laughing our butts off! This movie was definitely quirky - but in a fun and funny way! Since this is your first Wes Anderson film, I'm gonna recommend that you watch another one of his works, Fantastic Mr. Fox. It's a stop-motion film from 2009, but it's REALLY well done and filled to the brim with great acting, awesome animation, and brilliant comedy. Watch it as soon as you can!

What a one to start with. I love Wes Anderson films, my favourites being the French dispatch, moonrise kingdom and the Darjeeling limited. I saw this movie with my sibling whose never seen a Wed Anderson film and they enjoyed it more then I did so this may be a good one for new comers 😂.

Great movie, so emotional. Only watching this reaction did i realize... oh no, the a-bomb tests. The radiation. All of these people are doomed., underlined by the song at the end... "Got no future... got no hope... just nothing but the road." DAMN. Wes. Dark AF.

This was my official intro to Wes Anderson after learning about his directing style and cinematography and stuff! I fell in love with his weird, off the wall, surreal ness and I also love super experimental stories! This being my introduction I already was in the mood for something odd, unnatural, meta, and super perplexing! Asteroid City DID NOT DISAPPOINT! “YOU CAN’T WAKE UP IF YOU DON’T FALL ASLEEP!” “YOU CAN’T WAKE UP IF YOU DON’T FALL ASLEEP!” “YOU CAN’T WAKE UP IF YOU DON’T FALL ASLEEP!”

This is a fairly niche and likely not intended observation but as an autistic person the dialogue in this film is the closest ive seen to an accurate representation of how we talk to eachother
@iandawson6461
@iandawson6461 Год назад
this is Wes Anderson at his weirdest and most abstract. Otherwise, the kitsch, the literary dialogue, and the highly stylized sets/costumes/camera work is very usual for the man. If you liked this, I recommend continuing with his filmography. The Grand Budapest, The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums...

03:58 are "stupid" details like this what define a MASTER.Intentionally divides the shot as in a comic page: the new is happening on the right hand cartoon, on the empty left space, suddenly, the previous story continues with the boy drinking water as if there wasn't a tomorrow. His mastering use of colour palettes are beyond excellence. And his apparently stupid dialogs are brilliantly clever! PS: sometimes the fun is in the travel, not in the destination.

First half a bit slow, but second half found that trademark Wes Anderson rapid-fire wit and humor. Also, the black and white framing stuff was bullshit. Totally unnecessary bit of Charlie Kaufman-ism.

Not only the worst West Anderson film ever made besides the French dispatch, but arguably one of the worst films ever made, period. In other words, pretty dumbfoundingly awful decision

Among the worst Wes Anderson films. Not all actors fit well in Wes World. Tom Hanks was too Tom Hanks.
