Great video thanks for sharing information on these. Still have my old M51 I bought years ago to keep me warm on some sub zero Minnesota deer hunts. It always kept me warm and is windproof I love it.
Thanks bud, I've since acquired a couple of others as well and a even better M51 sateen with a mint wolverine fur hood that still has he cutters tags on. I do love the M51 myself
The "new" one with the cutters tags you ask about is actually the oldest one bud. It's also the most valuable, it's an EX-48-1 and to give you and an idea on value, I sold one not quite as nice as that for £1549 in January. There were only about 1000 of them made 65 years ago as samples/prototypes of the M-48. Not many are left at all, and this is perhaps one of the best few that are left
No problem. I only buy parkas to keep that fit me. The M65 is a medium, the M51 is a large and the M48 and EX48 are both small sized. Interestingly they are all about the same size bud. The 48s come out big, as do the 65s.
Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder buddy The sateen ones were only made in 1951 in the first year of production. As such they rarer and the sateen cotton is a lot heavier, I prefer them personally over the lightweight poplin I'd say as such a sateen is more desirable. But Ultimately condition is the main thing. But I'd much rather have a heavyweight sateen over a poplin
It took some finding, not many people will sell them, not in any sort of decent condition. The Ex-48 is far rarer though and even harder to get a nice one I'm very lucky to have two mint examples Thanks for the nice comment mate
Thanks for the interesting video. I recently bought an M 51 off eBay. It has a hood with the white fake fur and a wire inside it. I can see how the wire would be handy in a blizzard but it stops the hood sitting nicely on the parka. Would you recommend removing the wire? Thanks.
Put a search in for m51 parkas and set it to notify you when a new one is listed. Eventually. You'll come across a decent one. You should look to pay about 120-150 for a sateen first pattern shell in good condition and about 70-100 for a poplin. The liner is around 50-70 for a willen alpaca first pattern and about. 30-45 for a frieze. Then you got the hood liner on top, anything from 50-120.
Remember the M-48 and EX are investments and will only ever go up in price. I recently sold a medium EX for £1549. That wasn't the dearest one I've seen. Anyone wanting an EX especially I'd advise them to buy one NOW or pay through the nose in the next few years
Hey mate I got you watch the movie quadrophenia it’s about mods and rockers in the uk in the 60s a mod is a tip of fashion btw they normally where fish tail Parker’s from the Korean War or ones from the Vietnam war.
Hi Mate, Love the parka collection, I am in to the mod scene for some time (52 now!) and have just been given a parka which was my uncles, which he had when he was a MOD in the 60s, and he said that he had two one he used for on his scooter and another for best, but he said he does not know what the age of it is, do you know any website that I can go to check dates, I have noticed a lot of people mention the zippers, which on my uncles says "Talon", but is there any way that you can date this by the zipper? or is there other parts on the parka that I can check. Thanks for you time mateDan
Hello, great video! I am looking for a vintage-correct fishtail parka or replica. Is it normal for them to have drawstrings hanging from the front of the outer shell, near the bottom of the fly? Your M65 seems like it does, but I can't be sure. Thanks.
It wasn't cheap. But the best parkas never are mate. The M-48 shell I got from a US seller for £140, it's literally still got chalk marks under the zip. It took me about 5 months of searching to find a liner though for it and when I did I was just lucky.
I'm looking for a M-51 parka like the mods used to wear. I was wondering if you know any websites or places that sells them for a good price even replicas because when I look for them they cost a small fortune.
Hi mate seen all of your videos, just wondering what that weird patch is on the front of the m65? I've always thought it was to put a name on, just wondering?
For a decent m51 with both liners you are looking at around £250-295 for a complete decent one. Some websites I could name charge stupid money at 500+. But they are taking advantage of people's ignorance and they are greedy. There's no need to spend any more than £295 for a really nice m51 parka
My advice to anyone wanting an M-48 cheap, is to trawl eBay and get in first. Also join US Militaria forums, that's where I got my unissued 48 shell for 140quid this year from a US seller. It really is a case of seek and he shall find. It's the liners that are rocking horse shit to get
