Something about him still remembering her and their anniversary while he's in the last stage of his dementia is very endearing to me and I felt very sad.
Nobody talking about that scene where she nearly loses the ring, but desperately looks for it because even though she can't quite remember why she knows it's very very important? That was the realest moment in this for me.
I think, dementia maybe it sets in early. Maybe you return to a place that you never fixed and only the most solid thing about you remains. And maybe we've just been faking it, so all thats left is a bitter and lonely heart that just wants the "strangers" to just leave us alone.
After I saw how much she's willing to tease him in the confession scene, I finally understood why he attached such significance to her not mentioning them being lost on their first date Q.Q
Even with his Dementia, he never forgot his wife. Even their wedding anniversary. In a way, it’s a similar yet sweet contrast from what his wife went through. While his wife died from loosing all of her memories, he kept on living and never forgot about her even when he couldn’t remember his own nurse. An interesting way to end this oneshot.

I'm seeing a lot of people interpreting this as him having remembered her all those years, but I have a different theory/way of seeing this. I assume that dementia did function typically, and he did fully forget everyone, including her. However, what he experienced there was a medical phenomenon dubbed 'terminal lucidity'. Basically, in some dementia patients, at the very end of their lives they experience this effect for a few hours to a few days before death. A prolonged moment of perfect recall before an empty bliss.
I mean, factually you can explain it like that. However, that would decrease the emotional aspect of the comic and I personally don't think the author would like to do so. That's just my opinion though.
My father has this… two days before he died… almost all his memories came back, and for two days before his passing.. he remembered everything… he was my dad again….
My grandma had Alzheimers and I have no memories of her before she was long gone, but my dad had to go through college watching her slowly fade away. It really is a fate worse than death, for both the person and their loved ones.
@@flymoolahman2763 True... With forgetting, its a double edged sword. On one hand, forgetting something/someone is sad, but forgetting a bad memory means you dont have anymore trauma. And in the end i can only imagine that its pure white bliss, a bliss too blissful to comprehend, to remember.
Plot twist: after that he woke up only to find himself in the middle of the night with his wife panicking and saying "hey, hiroki-kun,did you have another nightmare this time? Are you okay, I am worried about you 😥😨"
I thought this would be a simple silly manga about a wife who is forgetful, not a manga about a wife who is suffering from an ever worsening amnesia. Just imagine having fun and loving memories with a loved one and one day you are a complete stranger to them. That is a form of hell I wouldn't want.
I've never been scared of death. But dementia is on thing I fear. Slowly losing your sense of self. The people you love becoming strangers. Being trapped in your own mind, unable to understand the world around you. A fate worse than death.
It hits even harder than a liver punch after hearing the "Burning memory" you know. I would never know how painful it feels to loose a person you love while looking right in their eyes.
This was so heart-wrenching that I cried internally, and the man in the corner, the man in the closet, the monster under the bed, and my sleep paralysis demon broke into tears.
This brought tears to my eyes the first time I watched it, and still manages to bring me on the verge of crying every other time I watch it. It's truly touching!
I saw this a long time ago forgot about it’s existence entirely saw on recommended kinda recognized it then watched the whole thing failed steps 1 and 2 immediately

Though I’m happy for the MC for being such a great guy, there’s also to take in the fact he never moved on. He seemed content with his choice, but if it were me, I’m sure my partner would understand I can’t be alone with nobody around.

I love how much of the wife's personality we get to see at the end. He was willing to give him all kinds of crap, so it was really extraordinary that she didn't mock him when he got them lost on their first date.

When a comic book artist wants to test their emotional skills on paper. This is a stretch but for those two people who may not know about this, there was an old Adam Sandler movie called 50 first dates where he meets a girl who forgets events that happen in the last 24 hours, so he had to make a scenario every single day as if he met her for the first time up to the point of them getting married, this however hit some heart strings because its a worsening condition so little by little her precious memories are fading away and it really hurt when you realize this poor woman dies without having a clue about her identity

Loss of memory is one of the most terrifying concepts there are, it's heartbreaking to see that he kept his promise all those years, remembering to go to the beach on their anniversary and remembering her long after everything else has faded from memory. I hope they can find peace together in some kind of afterlife
