Love your collection! Maybe I should do a pen and ink video too. Of these, I have the TWSBI Diamond 580 (adore it) and I once had a Pilot Metropolitan but I gifted it away because I hated the converter and didn't like the idea of cartridges (pre- learning how to refill them -- now I'm fine with it, I am just aspiring not to buy single use plastics). My Diamond - which is the light blue aluminum one - is currently full of Sailor Samaura Seaside Blue and it's lovely.

I would LOVE if you did a pen and ink video!! The Diamond 580 is such a phenomenal pen and I just looked up the Samaura Seaside Blue and it looks like a PERFECT match for the blue AL model!!! It’s so bizarre that Pilot seems constitutionally unable to produce a good converter…but now that I’m well equipped with a few empty cartridges I guess I’ll live. 😆 Honestly I’ve started just refilling cartridges for most of my pens because I find syringes easier to clean than converters and it doesn’t get the nib and grip all inky 🤷‍♀️

Yessss so excited for this installment! I have also admittedly fallen down the fp rabbit hole. As you've seen I've got a penchant for Kawecos, and Twsbi's so far....I'm slightly afraid of how googlie-eyed I get at some of the fancier ones....(Lookin' at you Visconti....) I'm really into inks these days too... the colours in my swatch book just light my heart on fire. Oohhh the Pilot e95 is such a beautiful classy pen, I have yet to try a Pilot pen or nib, they will be added to the list for sure. My biggest struggle is trying to decide how many pens I want to keep inked at once, some people go full hog and ink a load of them, but I feal like I'd have extreme decision overload everyday in that case, so I'm stickin' to six or so inked at once for now. But who knows if that'll change over time. I just got my first Vac filler (the mini as well!), I don't know why I'm so mesmerized with pen mechanics but alas, here I am. Thanks for sharing all your pens and pen thoughts, loved every second of it! xx

YAY thank you so much Theia!! Omg I get completely gaga over Viscontis too....I think I've finally accepted (ok, partially accepted) that a Lava Homo Sapiens is probably forever out of my reach but have you seen that new Mirage Mythos line they just released? I thought of you immediately when I saw it. The only question now is do I start saving for one of the current colors or wait for the inevitable Artemis or Hermes version 😆. As you probably picked up from this video I am a huge fan of Pilot nibs so I'd definitely advocate giving one a try! I'm also on the side of not having too many pens inked up at once...aside from my dedicated planner pens which I just keep inked up with something basic, I've been trying to only have 3 or 4 on the go at the same time so they're getting regularly emptied, cleaned, and rotated. I need to finally create a full swatch book because my ink sample collection is truly out of hand but I don't know if making the swatch book will reduce my temptation to be constantly inking up pens with new inks or just make it worse! 😂 My only regret over the Vac mini is that it doesn't come in any fun colors but since I got it for the mechanism I'm still super happy with it...but I'm just waiting for the day TWSBI comes out with some super adorable limited edition and suddenly through no fault of my own I end up with two Vac minis. 🤣💖💖💖💖

Finally got to watch the whole video. A great collection! Inspiring me to make my own pen collection video. I have been avoiding getting into the too expensive end of pens for myself, but I did finally recently get a Platinum 3776 which is close to Sailor money 😂. I do agree 100% with what you say about the Sailor. My wife has one and she loves it but I just don’t like writing with it as much as I do with one of my TWSBIs. I can appreciate its look and feel but not so much it’s utility.
@SunsetBoughTarot
@SunsetBoughTarot Год назад
Would love to see your pen collection!! I slightly regret now treating myself to the Sailor rather than a Platinum 3776 which was also in the running for my birthday pen…it’s definitely one of the higher-end pens on my long term wishlist (along with a few of the higher-end Pilots) and I hear nothing but wonderful things about it!
@earlyritual
@earlyritual Год назад
@@SunsetBoughTarot I'm definitely going to put a video together (hopefully this weekend). I heard rumors that they were making some change to the 3776 soonish, and I know a price jump was coming the beginning of this year, so I placed last minute order in December for two 3776s (one for me and one for my wife) . She already had one, an earlier limited one. I like it, and honestly use it all the time so its not as bad as I am going to sound here, but the issue I have is similar to your Sailor. Its nice... BUT.... is the 150 price difference better than the TWSBI Eco? I personally don't think so. Its a nice pen. I love using it. I am just not as bougie as I thought?
@SunsetBoughTarot
@SunsetBoughTarot Год назад
@@earlyritual yep I think that’s an incredibly fair point when it comes to some of these more expensive pens, especially when some of the less expensive pens are honestly such great and reliable writers. Is the fancy gold nib better than the steel nib on say a TWSBI? Maybe a little. Is it many TIMES better to justify the many times greater price? 🤨🤔 probably not.

Oh boy you have a beautiful collection!!! You should try your Sailor pen on a Rhodia/Clairefontaine/Exacompta paper, with a wet nib. It should work perfectly together. I often find that paper to be too smooth and slippery for my taste (medium to broad nib writer here), making some pens hard to control. I like using pens with a little feedback with it. Everybody is different with their preferences and experiences and what's wonderful about fountain pens is that everyone can find the pen that best fits their needs. I haven't bought my first Kaweco Sport yet because I feel like the plastic one are surprisingly cheaply made for the price they ask for. I feel like Kaweco Perkeo are better in that regard (same nibs anyways). And yes it baffles me (and sometimes infuriates me) that a company that engineers such smart, practical and beautiful pens as Pilot, could make such terrible, awful, lazy, not good at all converters like that. They are hands down the worst converters on the market!!!! Sorry for the rant, I just have really strong opinions on the subject. Also perhaps you'd be a great candidate for the Lamy 2000 in extra-fine nib. The grip is round so you might like that if you would want to get into the Lamy experience. I can't wait to see your video about inks! I recommend you to film it closer to the paper, as for instance in this video I couldn't tell the difference between the first Iroshizuku ink and the Diamine Oaxblood, even though I know the difference. It made me think of Julie and her "old eyes" and people like us. Just to keep in mind. Thank you for sharing your love.
@SunsetBoughTarot
@SunsetBoughTarot Год назад
That's a good tip on the Sailor, I do already notice that I definitely prefer the feel of it on Tomoe River to how it feels on the more absorbent paper in my nondescript journal, and I'm planning to try a Rhodia for my next journal so that will be a good opportunity to test it out. I think with Kawecos the main appeal of them for me is the size and shape of the Sport body--the nibs don't set my world on fire so I'm probably good with my current teeny collection. And seriously, WHY ARE PILOT PENS SO GOOD AND PILOT CONVERTERS SO BAD???? It is truly one of the great mysteries of the stationery world! 😆 Luckily I kind of enjoy messing about with ink syringes so that's been a solid alternative. I've definitely investigated the Lamy 2000--a little out of my price range right now but I like the look of it. I've been considering a Lamy Studio as a more affordable round-grip Lamy to try so that's sort of on the longer-term wishlist. Will make sure to film closer to the paper when I do an ink video!! 💖💖💖

OMG..... YESSSSSSS 😍😍😍 #sorrynotsorry for the (very) long comment Imma leave while I watch: Kakuno's were my gateway fountain pen too!! They never get any love and they're so EASY to work with! I had a terrible time with Pilot metropolitans.. mine always dribbled ink into the caps and got all messy - got like three different ones and had the same issue with every single one of them! Why did you change out the nib to a kakuno nib? Have you tried the CON-40 converters for Pilot? In general, you'll find that japanese fine is like a western extra-fine (and med is more like fine here etc). Omg when you said "Emily Gilmore's Everyday Carry" I DIED. LOL the best.. nailed that aesthetic with that comment though. LOL That fancy gold nib pilot pen is pretttttty. Okay - so I have a bone to pick with Kaweco. My first/only is a sport al in the limited edition hello kitty - and I LOVE it... but why.. WHY does the cap AND the nib unit both screw on/off in the same direction? So when I go to unscrew the cap sometimes the nib unit comes with it and it's a PAIN. UGH. Not sure why it happens but it annoys the crap out of me. My Kaweco lives in my purse but the number of times i've had issues.... just... 😠 -- but have you ever had that issue with any of your sports? TWSBI's are my favvvvvvve! I love them so much!!! The black rose gold is so pretty! I got a mini white rose gold and my white got discolored from the leather pen loop on my TN (wow i'm just airing all my FP grievances here aren't I?) That rainbow Diamond 580 is soooo tempting! I almost bought that lol. The vac mini pen fascinates me! I was SHOCKED by my first Platinum Preppy - I got some hello kitty ones from ebay and it writes so .. .smooth.... I eyedropper converted one of them (they were so cheap) and kept one with the cartridge. I should try a Plaisir! A sailor!!!! :D Nice!! My first more expensive pen purchase was also a little disappointing (the nib felt really large and it just sat funny in my hand) - so I totally get those mixed feelings! Have you tried a Benu, btw? I have a Benu Mandrake and it's beautiful and wet/juicy but verrrry smooth. My Edison Beaumont Unicorn is also really smooth!! YES PLEASE TO AN INK VIDEO.

Ok I loved every word of this very long comment!! That's such a shame that you had trouble with the Pilot MPs, I don't have that issue with mine but I do know that people don't always have problem-free experiences with them so I think I was just lucky. I have seen comments here and there that heat can make them burp a bit, especially when using the squeeze converter they come with....curious if you've noticed a correlation there? The only reason I swapped in the Kakuno nib on my MP was because I wanted the smiley face 😆--they're otherwise identical nibs. I did try the CON-40s and I found them hard to get a good fill, and also mine were forever getting ink and water behind the piston....Idk if they were defective or what but argh. So these days I've found I just prefer to refill cartridges...the cartridges have more ink capacity and syringes are easier for me to disassemble and clean than the converters. Omg I haven't had that issue with my Kawecos but that would drive me batty (but I only have two and neither of mine are AL models...I wonder if the ALs have some kind of extra friction on the grip section or something?) TWSBIs are so good, just SO GOOD. I love literally everything they do as a company. I could own a million of them and never be sick of writing with them. The Diamond 580 is tied with the Pilot E95S for favorite pen I own. Something about the weight and balance of it is just....chef's kiss. And seriously, as far as bang for buck goes Platinum Preppies cannot be beat!! I never expected to find a nib that good on a six dollar pen. The only drawback with the Plaisir is that of course it's metal so it's not eyedropper convertible but otherwise it's literally just "a Preppy but make it fashion." 😆 I haven't tried a Benu yet but Goulet just got the Iced Caramel Latte back in stock so I think that's about to change REAL quick. 😅 EEEEE I love nerding out about pens! I'm putting the ink video top of the list! 💖💖💖

OMG - thank you for nerding out with me LOL!!! :D I can't wait to see how your pen experiences change over time. So funny story about the TSBI ECO's, I inked one up in the spring... last year... and journal my daily tarot draw with it - I was determined to use up an entire barrel of ink before swapping - and after .... like 10 months.... it's *still* only to the half-way point. I had those same issues with the pilot converters but the only pilots I have are kakunos (a shameful number of them but they're so fun and they're good smooth writers)... love that you swapped the nib for the smiley face - AMAZING. Can't wait for your ink vid -- but if Organic Studio Nitrogen isn't already in your collection, imma tell you to fix that right now.... it has a breathtaking sheen that is out of this world. That's the ink I've been using for 9 months, btw... if it was any other I'd surely have gotten bored and switched by now! 🤣😂🤣😂
