Thank you for sharing your collection! It makes me want to do a similar video. I counted my pens this weekend, and found I have 70 (which surprised me) and I am going to whittle it down. I have many pens that don't speak to me. I also have a Pilot Vanishing Point, and I am very eager to try the Platinum Curidas. How do you find they compare?
@sathishrao7926
@sathishrao7926 2 года назад
Hope you’ve seen Parts 2 and 3 of my collection. If mere mortals like me with just around 40 Fountain pens are making Collection videos, you with much more pens should make such videos too 😃I’ll be eager to see a tour of your collection. If there’s one pen which is permanently unlinked in my collection, it is Curidas ! It has a little protrusion at the bottom of the section which hurt my fingers, so I ‘gifted’ it to my wife who wasn’t much bothered by this protrusion. But pen used to dry out frequently no matter what ink she used and the ‘click’ mechanism didn’t quite work seamlessly, so she lost interest in using it.. But its steel nib seems to have less feedback compared to the gold nibs on 3776 and PTL 5000A, so it writes smoother.. I’ve another ‘Pseudo retractable pen’ - Hero H718, (seen in Part-3 of my Collection videos). It’s a heavy pen with piston filler and a 10K gold nib and a clone of Montblanc Heritage 1912. It’s a decent writer.

Thanks ! Glad you liked my ‘mini’ collection.. I’ll add the currently discontinued Hero H718 Retractable pen someday ! May be you can afford a Lamy Dialogue 3 which is the most expensive retractable pen that I know of ( If we exclude Montblanc Bohame which is perhaps not in production )..
@dashsunil
@dashsunil 3 года назад
@@sathishrao7926 There is no comparison between your capless and the dialouge. I recently tried it at my local Lamy store. It's too heavy (around two and half times than that of the Curidas )and bulky to be used frequently. Imagine when Curidas is bulky, that dialouge will make Neil go crazy.
@sathishrao7926
@sathishrao7926 3 года назад
@@dashsunil I don’t like the ‘bland’ looks of Dailogue.. Secondly it costs more than $300, so I’d have never bought one.. Your not too good experience with it further justified my ‘non-preference’ of Dailogue !
@dashsunil
@dashsunil 3 года назад
@@sathishrao7926 you are so correct. If I have 300 USD, I would go for a sailor large. It's worth every penny of that amount. Their large nibs are unbeatable. I will get one in next few years, hopefully.
@sajjadhusain4146
@sajjadhusain4146 3 года назад
@@dashsunil …I have the Dialog 3. I love it. You’re right that its girth and weight is quite something. It clearly isn’t a pen for everybody. And I’ve always felt and said that the pen is overpriced for what it is. At $300+, one will find better pens and greater value for the price. But the Dialog is a wonderful writer. That alone makes it worth it for me. No regrets on the purchase. And oh, I cannot recommend Sailor enough. I have several Sialor pens. The nibs alone make the pens totally worth it. So, again you’re right about buying perhaps a 21k Sailor Pro Gear instead of the Dialog being a wiser and better choice for most buyers making tough purchasing decisions. Of course, Sailor pens are more pricey here in America than they’re at home in Japan.

Good collection you have, Satish Ji. Better to have small collection that you use. Pens those stay unused is meaningless indeed. Your platinum pens are very good choice as they are awesome as daily writers. I would prefer a Platinum 3776 over that Pelikan. For me, better to go with M400 and above. This M200 series is cash cow for Pelikan. Lol

@@sathishrao7926 I must say I loved your collection. This shows you are an actual user. In my point of view, people tend to buy by seeing the pictures on insta or fb. Most of the buyers do not have actual interest in the main thing that writes, i.e. the nib. Asthetics are good, hiwever, shouldn't be the ultimate deciding factor when it comes to purchase a pen. Just to let you know, I can't afford INR11500 for that Pelikan. Instead, would save up a bit and buy that 3776 you have. Enjoy your writing instruments. Hope your 45 arrives soon. I have one and it is a beautiful writer. 😊

@@dashsunil Thanks again ! Just so you know, I bought 3776 Fine for less than Rs 8k from a Bangalore based importer ( HobbyOne ).. But I find its feedback a little too much for my liking, so I’ve sent it to a Delhi based Fountain pen seller and Nib-smith for smoothening ! Incidentally, it is from this seller I bought the Pelikans ! Also, I’ve set aside a monthly budget for a new pen. If I exceed the budget, I’ll go on a moratorium for the next month or two !

I have often heard and read that the M200/205 pens are a little too lightweight. And more importantly, the steel nibs are of rather inconsistent quality. But then I’ve never owned or used one myself.

@@sajjadhusain4146 Yes.. M200 is the lightest of the pens I own, but mine writes well. It is smooth with just the right amount of feedback.. No hard start / skip issues. But I’m not convinced that it deserves such a high price tag of 160 USD.. I got a made in India pen from a brand ‘Click’ last week which is a kind of similar to M200 in weight / girth and it writes equally well.. I paid just around 4 USD for this pen !!

Thank you.. Beena Magic (Indian retractable pen) is decent for its price of $2 ! There’s one more Indian company called ‘Endless’ that’s making retractable pens lately. These pens are slightly pricier around $40.. I’ve bought many more pens since I made this video including a vintage Platinum pocket pen (equivalent of Pilot Elite), its Sailor equivalent and so on.. It’s only with 3776 (in Fine) I experienced that much talked about Platinum Feedback (and I’ve begun loving it after a bit of micro-meshing).. Other Platinums - PTL5000A, Curidas, Pocket 14, Preppy - don’t have such a feedback.

@@sathishrao7926 Thanks for your answer. That's because of the quality and price point Indian makers offer. When acrylic pens made with a Jowo steel nib sells around 300 to 400 dollars, imagine small businesses like Ranga offering premium ebonite pens with same Jowo steel nib around 80 dollars or a titanium nib with around 90 dollars. Indian makers also offer group discount if you buy together.

Such a good, neat, compact and impressive collection. Use and savor your pens fully. It’s the advantage of having a reasonably sized collection. I once had 102 pens. I’ve since pared it down to the current family of 70. I usually have a dozen pens inked at once. And I use them daily and quite a lot. Your Indian retractable pen looks really nice. I have a few such pens, (VP, Dialog 3, Pilot Fermo), but not the Curidas yet. My last one was the excellent Hero H718. I have the same Bourgogne 3776 with a Music nib. And a three other 3776s. Funnily enough, I still don’t own a Pelikan pen yet. I must finally buy at least one. I like the 400 & 600 line best. But next year, perhaps. If you buy a few more Sheaffer pens, make a video on that, too. The Parker 45 must be one of your favorites. It deserves to be so. Good luck collecting more pens you really want. At least you sound like you’re disciplined and prudent with your money and discretionary spending. That’s always a good thing.

Thanks for all your words of wisdom, Sajjad.. I agree that it’s important to curb those impulse buy instincts during initial phase of pen collection before this becomes addictive and obsessive.. Thankfully, I’m reasonably successful in this department since I’ve had a cap on the price of the pen I bought and most of the pens I bought have been on good deals ( I got 3776 for $80 ! ).. A small update : I made this mini review on Parker 45 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b8BbfYeY44Q.html But I’m finding hat Parker 45 has hard starts and this is the only pen in my little collection with this issue.. Pelikan P381 has had a lot of skip issues, so I returned it. I’m getting it replaced with a Sheaffer Prelude signature which costs the same ( around $70 ).. I may get P381 later after I ensuring that this friendly and courteous seller inks it, writes with it and sends me writing sample ! I was planning on Hero H718 as my last Retractable pen ( since I can’t afford a Lamy Dailog ), but I couldn’t get it in Chrome finish and the glossy black one went out of stock in a jiffy ! Making a Sheaffer exclusive video is in my mind after I get Prelude signature ( and possibly Targa ) !

@@sathishrao7926 ..Oh, I’m not wise or anything. 😃 Just a devoted, experienced and lifelong lover and user of fountain pens, that’s all. The Parker 45 occasionally reveals its own share of problems. The nibs can be of varying quality in these vintage pens. Ideally, if one is able to buy it directly from a physical store, in person, then the pen could be checked out for the feel of the nib and the writing. The nib units can be easily screwed out and replaced, and as far as I know these spare nib units are usually available with sellers of these pens. Also, the 45’s plastic barrel has been known to sometimes become misshapen which is clearly apparent upon inspection. I’ve been lucky with my four 45s. One is a 14k stub (very rare) and they all write beautifully without any trouble so far. I bought the black & chrome Hero H718 two years ago for $70. I bought it because of the retractable nib, and felt curious about a 10k gold nib. I’m very pleased with the pen. It’s somewhat heavy, but I don’t mind it because it’s a very pleasant writer. I only wish I could have it with an M or B nib. I’m not familiar with the Pelikan models you mentioned. Of the cheaper Pelikan pens, I’m familiar with the Twist and the Jazz. And I found the best one to be the Pelikan Stolla III (Waski owns one and reviewed it before)…Have you seen the Pelikan Pura P40? It’s an attractive one, but the price seemed a bit too high to me. You got your 3776 pens at Japan’s home prices. Good for you, Sathish! If and when you make an exclusive video on your Sheaffers, I’d be certain to watch and comment.
@sajjadhusain4146

@@sajjadhusain4146 Thanks again for your response.. Hero 718 that was available here in Amazon India was for $100 and it had a black finish.. I asked the seller if he could get the Chrome variant.. he said he’d try, but he didn’t get back and the black one was also sold in the meantime, so I couldn’t get it.. I tried getting it from other sellers, but no one has it in stock.. Pelikan P381 is a discontinued model with 14K gold nib. It’s a slim pen and it was made in India as per a website.. I’m sure you’d know about Pelikan M200 which is their entry level pen in M series ( with piston filler mechanism ) with Steel nib. M 400, 600, 800 and 1000 are their Souveran series with Gold nibs which are prohibitively expensive for me ! Yes - I’ve heard about the ‘distortion’ on the section of Parker 45 due to capping and uncapping.. Oh ! I made a short video on Sheaffer Intensity last week : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ia3-_Xd0DsI.html I’ll certainly make one on all my Sheaffers once I get Prelude Signature and hopefully Targa..
