CORRECTIONS + OTHER INFO, I'll add to this comment whenever it's necessary 3:56 - Both trails I talk about already exist, I'm just silly and don't know my trails 7:30 - I math'd EXTREMELY wrong here, the correct orb count is 1,825,000 (1.8 million) and NOT 182 million. How I messed this up is beyond me 8:03 - I was playing map packs earlier and forgot to turn off the no mirror portal hack. I am not sorry and SkyFrost is a terrible level 28:18 - this is ray casting, not ray tracing. sorry for messing up your last name ray
@@timesnewrman turkey or argentine, I suppose. In russia, it costs 25 cents during sale (42 cents in old currency rate). But, turkey and argentine national currencies are getting removed from Steam soon, so no one is gonna buy it for that free anymore.
I'm so excited for this all. Genuinely tearing up thinking about all the times i tried to do scale with crazy frame-by-frame animation or clever movements, the times I had to use giant scale hacked glows, using teleport portal bugs solely to adjust the camera slightly, etc. 2.2 is gonna be REVOLUTION!!!
i’m honestly so glad that 2.1 lasted this long, leaving the community with the same tools for 7 years is what us driven this game to expand in such an insane and unique way. all the progress made during the 2.1 era will continue into future updates too, so it’s not like it going to go to shit now
Is it weird that I'm honestly a bit scared of 2.2? Like I started playing this game in 2.0, and I feel like everything I know about it could get turned upside down by doubling the features, making the levels feel completely different, and all kinds of stuff like that. I'm probably afraid of nothing, but I cant help but feel a little nervous about the implementation of all of this new stuff in a game we've cherished for so long as it is
@@GDColon good to know someone is on my side. Honestly when I voice my concerns I get a lot of "It'll be fine" and stuff like that which really isnt the point
Same here. I’m uncertain as to how platformer levels will be managed in the update, and one of my fears is that camera controls is about to give us the worst level-creating trend we’ve seen yet.
@@GDColon Were all scared We know that it's going to be early 2.0 on drugs Way more hype, way more features we aren't ready for... Glad to have people who agree!
My favorite thing about 2.2 is the level Dash. It has very fun gameplay. For those who are having trouble with the difficulty, you’ll get used to it later on.
The farewell really got me. I started playing in 2016 and I myself am in University rn. Time flies, but damn seeing all the progress & history being made in the GD community was beautiful.
I think it would be really cool if the achievements were something like “beat a demon in practice mode in 1 attempt” or other things that cause players to beat levels in unexpected ways, other than sheer grinding.
Omg, you showed off Swagger by me and DangerKat, I'm so honoured! (at 13:04) Anyways, I'm pretty excited for 2.2 and I hope some of the things you found get a little fix in a later small update for 2.2! I've also experienced 2.1 within my entire high school life and now at 1 and a half years of university. It's insane to think that 2.1 was that long and I'm hyped for a new era of Geometry Dash!
swagger's one of my favorite levels to come out of 2.1, i couldn't NOT show it. it's a perfect example of "seven years of 2.1 only forces the community to cook harder than ever"
Thank you for having a moment with everyone today to say goodbye to 2.1. We’ve had good times yet we’re so happy but so sad at the same time. Thanks GD Colon
@@user-hv6nl3cz1z I doubt most of the community want a cyberpunk 2077 kind of situation where content releases, is broken on release, and then takes a long time to fix. I agree that it shouldn’t have taken this long, but pressuring him into rushing them is will make any work he does worthless if he listens, so why should we even be complaining? Like, he’s a person, not a robot.
@@PrismTheLoseryou completely missed the point, the update was so big it took more than 7 years to finish which couldve been chopped down into 10 smaller batches as the video said
I like how your videos are the most clear and structured among all gd youtubers. Minimal muddle and full disclosure of the topic makes this the best breakdown of the trailer that I've seen so far.
So much things happened since I first played this game in January of 2018. I made so many friends, lost a chunk of them, discover myself, grow wiser, gone through much good and much bad. This update really feels like closing that chapter of my life and starting a new one. I have seen so much historical moments and it feels like 2.1/2.11 represents such a huge chunk of my life. I'm really emotional right now.
28:09 tearing up rn because of how much happiness this game has brought us. This video was, like so many of yours, amazingly well put together, really well done colon. see ya in 2.2
The ending got me in the feels, man. I’m gonna miss 2.1 so much. This was a big journey for me to make as a creator, a player, and a community member. Thanks. Also I laughed so many times throughout this video you’re like the only person who can make me laugh consistently I loved the Wulzy particles
That "Farewell 2.1" chapter hits really hard man, I started playing GD back in 2015 when 2.0 was released and Cyclic wasn't considered a hacker, I was 14 years old I discoved your channel in 2017 I think when you uploaded the "A day in the Dashlands" video. Now I'm 22 years old, studying medicine, and waiting for 2.2
I think the 50/100 key chests should guarantee an icon/decent reward, but the other ones still have good chances. Another thing is chest achievements. Basically you can get the icon guaranteed from the achievements or try your luck in a chest. I think that would be cool.
I hope there's an option to control the amount of particles that appear, because if creators abuse them (which they will) then performance is kind of a big concern
20:27 Colon: Whatever happens, please just don't do this stupid retrovision thing. Also Colon: *Makes an entire level with it active at all times in 2.2*
Thanks for having this moment and sharing your moment with us, Colon. 2.1's really been a fun ride and I hope we'll just get more community fun and craziness to keep this game running. Thank you and happy 2.2
20:06 This is possible. "Animate on Trigger" option allows activating particles with an Animate trigger. Tie a free group to a particle emitter and animate the group with an ID of 1.
I'm excited to see what modding will be like in 2.2. The modding community has grown so much in the past few years and we've seen so many improvements, but we also have a lot of leftover baggage from times when we knew less about the game. While I'm a tad sad about having to rework everything I've done, I'm also kinda really excited to see gd.h finally phased out for good and see a new chapter of Geode-lead modding truly begin
I feel like you said most of our thoughts perfectly at the part in the end. This game has been part of my life for like... half of my life lol. I'll miss 2.1 but I can't wait for 2.2 :D
No but like, seriously, obligatory essay time since I have a lot to say about that that ending was crazy. It's been like 3 years at least since I went away from the GD community. But in truth, I never did. I lost interest in the kind of GD content I used to like, but this game still has an amazing potential at it's core and it was fun to watch it grow still for the last 3 years. The fact that from me being a cringe middle school GD kid in 2017 to second year of university, I can still enjoy the game through new ways is crazy on its own. But this video made me realize just how much I wish I could enjoy the 2017 era again the same way I did actually being there. And I'm really feeling like 2.2 is just the perfect occasion for that. It's got the wonders (foreshadowing) of discovering the game again, but also the wonders of playing an update I was waiting for during the last 6 years. And I think its release time helps it a lot, because Super Mario Bros Wonder did pretty much that same mix of bringing Mario back and making the game I would've imagined as my favorite game ever as an 8 year old. All that for a simple conclusion. Thank you for bringing these emotions with this ending. Because I never would've truly realized how huge 2.2 actually is even beyond how much content there is. Thank you all for these 6 years.
this was certainly a breath of fresh air in the midst of the 2.2 content spam coming from one particular creator. I absolutely love that sendoff at the end, it really does feel like the end of an era for GD. I started playing GD Lite in 1.9 when I was in elementary school, and I convinced my grandma to buy me the full game on my now-dead tablet very shortly before 2.0 came out. Update 2.1 came out when I was in 6th grade, and I'm now almost done with my first semester at university (was taking a US History exam while this was premiering, i think it went rly well for once). no idea what else to say lmao. video good. remember to use your turn signals
really makes me feel old 🥲i remember when cataclysm 1.0 hit and bloodbath's release, some of my memories even go as far back as before levels looked good at all and were like 80% or more just untextured blocks... now most of the vets are college age and up lmao day after day sunk trying to beat levels that i now consider easy like blast processing back when i was super young, and now i'm usually so wrapped up with classwork or other responsibilities that this game is going to be an excuse to procrastinate kek
19:22 I think that's a variant of the spider orb that acts in the given direction, since it doesn't spin like a dash orb, and flips you to the surface in that direction like an arrow trigger..? Loved the vid btw :)
I'm not ready to let go of 2.1, this update has made me so many beautiful memories. But I agree with what you said, its time to move on from this and look forward to even more incredible things while not forgetting where we came from. Geometry Dash has been a huge part of my life and I'm excited to see what the future holds! ❤❤❤
As an animator and graphics designer I really consider checking out these platform editor options. As shown in the video it almost looks like a simple game designer. Absolutely love it
Colon can control us. At any moment, he can make us shocked, sad, happy, laughing, whatever. Either way, can he make RobTop not stressed about this update? Edit: OMG COLON GAVE MY COMMENT A HEART
One of my concerns is that what happens to the mods (megahack v7, Better edit ,etc) they will probably break unless the creators of the mods update or create new version which might mean leaving the other old versions to the dust.
@@GDColon very unrelated question to anything here, but what editor software do you use? Or various other editor software that are free and great quality? Things I already tried. Capcut is extremely annoying to deal with. Filmora or whatever it was required me to change the consoles of my laptop which I do not mess with at all.
as a creator, im genuinely scared of the 2.2 editor because it will be INSANELY overwhelming, im worried ill think i cant use it and get sad because its happend before.... i know however i will figure it out because im smart and ive been creating for 6 years, but im really worried for newer creator because of this same issue..... hope there are tutorials made quickly!!!!!
there's also the 2.2 gdps that has a lot of creators that already know how to use some features so maybe they will make tutorials very fast when 2.2 drops
The most exciting aspect for me and one I feel like people are overlooking is the possibility for megacollabs to feel like real game studios with the amount of specialization that can happen now. I wouldn't be surprised if not too far in the future we get a megacollab with specifically a particle specialist or an area/gradient specialist or something like that, at least until people get more familiar with the editor and can do it all themselves
@@DimenSpadXyour 28 comments on this channel is you crying about people worrying about 2.2, I have a few comments on this channel, but that doesn't mean I've never watched him, but clearly you were born after Subzero was made
I think we should have a separate volume slider for menu/death/clear etc sfx and custom sfx, that way demon grinders can hear cool sounds like a bridge breaking for example while not hearing the death effect every 5 seconds
your editing makes background footage actually hilarious like i never know when the next laugh is coming because i’m so focused on what you’re saying, and then 17:02 rolls around and im chuckling at how dumb it is
honestly a really good idea for robtop would be a "robtop's custom object" tab in the editor that has a bunch of stuff he's made for the official levels doors, structures, all kinda stuff used in the levels that people might wanna recreate, throw em in a tab also makes the editor much more accessible for new players
It''ll be a little sad because 2.1 was a big tie but I am excited for 2.2. I'll just miss the good days. But being able to do this kind of video this long and this much effort, I could never. Keep doing what you love and don't stop entertaining us!
15:08 Fun fact : NewGround isn't "SFW" and that leads to public wifi, like a school (as in the whole campus)'s wifi, preventing Geometry Dash from downloading song (There is also no cellular data). Anyway, deaf GD hits different
