Do you know if we exercise our triceps will we get strength?
@LiveToRoll
@LiveToRoll 2 месяца назад
To my experience, no. There are studies which show using electrical stimulations while working out to activate muscles is possible. I don't have direct knowledge of this. Are you trying to gain more strength- what's your level of injury?

How curious! Thank you for sharing though, it really was insightful. I think a lot of people can be a bit afraid about asking questions about this kind of stuff because they don't want to offend (or ask questions that get asked a million times), but it really is one those questions that first come to mind if you've never seen it before. A straightforward resource like this I think is really good to help people get past that awkward first stage of "Oh you're a ___ quadriplegic? How does.... How does that work exactly?", and back to talking about everyday things. Also, those are some wicked tats you got there!

Thank you for commenting and that's one of the reasons I started making videos.. so I appreciate hearing that. It can be hard for people to ask questions most of the time and I figured it could help having info out there if you're looking for it.

Hi Sean, I'm really enjoying your videos. Couple questions; is your spinal cord injury complete or incomplete? One thing I always had trouble with is my quad gut. How do you maintain your thin figure after 14 years in a chair? I'm 33 years post injury from an auto accident in 1985. Also, I found your videos one day while trying to figure out how to do my own wheelchair transfers. Having no triceps myself, I found your technique the best and your video helped immensely. I still haven't tried to get into armchairs or sofas yet but getting in and out of my chair and out of bed is good enough for me, so thanks for the videos and also inspiring me to make my own RU-vid channel. Check out if you want.

Yes I am lucky 57.5 years old 40 years in a wheelchair, college and law school grad. And working 40+ hrs a week for 30+ years since I graduated. Today I will continue to workout and push a regular wheelchair 5-7 km and I will do a 15km race in late May -- yes it will take me 4 hours or so -- have you walked/run a 15km (9.6 mile race) ? MY goal is 50km or 26 miles or a marathon in 10 hrs or less.

I'm a quad C5 6-7 however I have more tricep than you do. very cool that you make these videos for people FYI I like your bong Lol. marijuana helps me tremendously however where I live it's not illegal yet it's on the ballot this year. I am so sick and tired of taking pills and they led me down a dark path a few years after my accident I was 17 and then at 19 I got pregnant imagine that a pregnant quadriplegic needless to say that was a very rough 9 months my son is now 17 and a junior in high school he is an amazing kid and I couldn't imagine life without him. I raised him as a single mom for many years his sperm donor knock me up and disappeared after he sign the birth certificate of course about 5 years later I got married to a great man who has been raising my son as his own. Stuff turned out pretty good. anyway best of luck to you

So the lack that of muscle in your arms and chest, is that something that can be built up? Or is there a more detailed reason that happens? Like can muscles atrophy no matter how hard you work them? Sorry I am not more informed here.

+Crystal Hewitt Hi Crystal, I can imagine that 3 boys would be a handful.. especially being a quad. Its good to have friends in chairs because everyone can learn things from one another and push you to maybe do a little more than you thought you could. I'm in the SO-Cal area.

Hi Shawn. Steve here. We met at Triumph's Casino Night fundraiser earlier this year. How do you keep your stomach flat? Are you really strict about your diet? Are you able to do sit ups? I'm a C6 quad (5 yrs.) just like you and I, along with some other "quad friends"/mentors have a "quad gut." When I bring it up to these friends, who have been injured a lot longer than I have, they just say, it's part of being a quad. Your abdominal muscles have atrophied and your insides are sticking out. They have a gut too. I don't accept this and I'm working on my core muscles to minimize the size of my gut and for my sitting balance. During the week I work out one day at home and three days, with a trainer, at Project Walk in Claremont. Your advice would be appreciated.
@LiveToRoll
@LiveToRoll 9 лет назад
+Steve Campbell Hey Steve of coarse I remember talking to you at the fundraiser. I do a few things to slow down the "quad gut". Starting with the fact that I don't take baclophen or any spasm medication so I get a lot of core spasticity.. especially during the night I get stomach spasms that almost sit me up sometimes then slam me back down. Thats not ideal for everyone. lol. I also used to use one of the core exercise belts that stimulate muscles with electric impulse when I was at home watching tv on my couch. And the last thing is probably my diet because I eat pretty lean meals and I usually eat 5 smaller meals a day instead of just breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Hey I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but I'm glad to answer any questions you may have. I'm sorry if your in a lot of pain but maybe getting more active can help? But that's hard sometimes when your in a lot of pain already. Hope everything goes well for you and thanks for your support!

Any advice on how to improve balance? We have virtually the same function I have the strength in my arms, shoulders and back but can't do much with both hands without losing my balance.
@LiveToRoll
@LiveToRoll 9 лет назад
+Phil Magoosh I've always had good balance even as an able body kid but I used to do a lot of balance practice in rehab then at home sitting on the side of my bed. Also the amount of bucket I keep in my chair plus a deeper backrest that I sink into a little give me more balance and control. Even with all of that I can't use both hands in front of my body at the same time to grab something. If I have to reach for anything I always keep one arm back around my push handle on my backrest.

Hey guys I'm a c5 ç7 quadriplegic and I still have problems with spasms any suggestions on any meds?
@LiveToRoll
@LiveToRoll 7 лет назад
+Christian Velez I'm not sure what to recommend because I only use medical cannabis and stretching to control my spasms.. Which can leave me a little tight during the day and my muscles retain some muscle tone because of that too. But honestly I still get a good amount of spasms I'm just able to feel the big ones coming so I'm always paying attention to how my body feels so I don't get surprised by them. I know a few people with Baclofen pumps that had severe spasms and it has help them but I can't say I recommend that.. you can do some research and see if that's an option you want to try.

Nice work +Live To Roll! I'm C4/5, just wondering how you strengthened your shoulders so well?
@LiveToRoll
@LiveToRoll 7 лет назад
+Candice Bennett Hey Candice! I have and still do quite a bit of shoulder work outs.. one thing that is fairly cheap and easy to do is buy some wrist or ankle weights, probably start with small 1lb and do shoulder raises to the side and forward if you can (it's a little harder coming up forward then the side). I also do punches straight up and out forward as well as reaching across my body to help strengthen my shoulders. I hope that helps a little and you can check out my workout video #2 and that has most of those workouts too.

@LiveToRoll
@LiveToRoll 6 лет назад
Yeah the muscles I'm missing don't work because of a nerve disconnect and there really isn't a way to just work out and gain muscle back. And I'm definitely not double jointed anywhere lol
