After a brief moment of glory in the Toronto bonsai show, I'm pruning my "FrankenFicus" way back to improve the overall branch structure. This tree is a fusion Ficus benjamina.

Hi Nigel! One of my favourite trees in your collection that one. Here in MidEast of Sweden is pretty much the same weather as you've got. :) Snow is white and bright, but will stand for another day or two only. Stay warm and take care!

I never thought about you fusing more to the frankenficus, it makes sense though, keeping in line with the rich history and struggle of the tree, pretty neat how far it's come since the freeze. You do great things sir Nigel. Have a great week!

I guess a fusion project can be much like a jin on a tree. One looks incongruous, but 2 or more is cohesive!! Initially I found the fusion to be a little jarring to the eye, but as it matures, it is blending into becoming a very impressive tree. A testament to your future vision, rather than seeing just what is before you.

Hi Nigel! I really enjoy your videos, and have learned a lot from you!! I also watch other channels, and you are the only Bonsai creator who doesn’t wire the trees. Hi Janet. Look up "Grow & Clip"/"Clip & Grow" and "Lingnan Penjing". "Lingnan penjing artists prune trees with the “Grow and Clip” method. Instead of bending by wires, the branches are kept being clipped as they grow. Every clipping creates a new turn and a new session on the branch, and in every session, there grows new branches. Eventually, as the tree keeps growing and being pruned by this particular method, it will taper from the base to the apex, the proportions between the trunk and branches will be greatly developed, with branches full of turns and twists"

I'd no idea of the backstory to your Frankenficus! Did you video the grafting? I can't find it if you did. Can you give a rough date please? It's a belter, as we sometimes say in the UK.

Pines need to be repotted in spring and it can be tricky root pruning, you have to leave lots of feeder roots. A good bonsai soil will help the tree grow and provide a nice place for the roots to grow!
