@@philomenawhitehead7840 I think he definitely treated him like he was one of his own...and there were a few princes and princesses he could have done without. 😂
Love how he turned to Niao Naio’s mom and cut her off with a stern look telling her not to interrupt him while he was talking! Always love how he speaks up for Niao Niao and makes her the best in his eyes!
Even though her mother said such hurtful words, I think it is also her way of "testing" the loyalty and being honest of Ling Buyi. She knows that he is a woman's man. Every women in Ruyang City wants him. She also doesn't want Niao Niao to get hurt and bullied by the other nobles. Moreover, they will look down on her and bring disgrace to Ling Buyi. She is also protecting her from them and from that hurt. Deep inside of her, she is still a mother.
@@purpleheart6953 We already know what she is trying to do and say to her daughter but her father also said to her that she must also understand her mother. As a watcher, I can interpret in both ways. It's either I take it negatively or in a good way. We already know the bad one but if I am also her mother, my intention is to say those things, eventhough it will hurt her, to know the true intention of Ling Buyi. Her father told her that Niao Niao told them that there was nothing going on between them that is why they are risking their lives just to stop his proposal. That is why her mother said those mean things about her.
@@salomeannm.trocino6461 her mother said those mean things because she didn't want Niaoniao to enter the palace. But by doing so she opened her to bullying because she degraded her in a major way. She also stopped any furthermore attempt of anyone to propose to Niaoniao. She told everyone that she would never be everything that a woman should be and that was a low blow, even if it was an attempt at saving her life
1:34 Love how she’s explaining why she isn’t a good choice for him, and then asking him if he still would choose her. And I love the look on her face when he unequivocally said yes. It’s a look of disbelief and sense of relief, disbelief that he responds “Yes” without no doubt, and a sense of relief that she didn’t scare him away. Love how he just knows she’s made for him, and no one can tell him differently. Such a beautiful way to propose.
because they felt already a deep connection the moment he saved her at the lantern festival, each time they met an encounter that connection was reaffirmed!
@@vortex162 I'm not sure that CSS necessarily felt [or allowed herself to feel?] a deep connection with LBY at this point in the story. I honestly think that she thought that she would scare off LBY with what she consciously considered to be the blunt truth -- I.E. that she is unruly and likely not the right person for him. IMHO neither one had gotten over their prior trauma to a point where they would be able to have the marriage that they both deserved -- they both needed to grow more and become more accepting of each other and what their relationship was / should be.
@@kristinesharp6286 maybe so but here we have Niao Niao even being slandered by her own parents who claim to love her, so her marrying elsewhere doesn't matter as they've never had a " daughter" to raise per se.
@@yvonneburns2786 She is afraid of letting her daughter go again. She is afraid of what will befall her in her IL’s household. If she married the first guy she could have been executed or enslaved, how the rest of the family managed not to be executed was a miracle. Who knows what secrets are lurking. Even members of her own family could have been executed or enslaved for what the maternal uncle did in the first episode. Think modern day North Korea where members of family suffer internment or worse because of one relative.
Just like my mom said when she tell me how horrible my dad's family is, even she had 6 months of misserable time being newlyweed but suffering, my dad at the end choosing her instead of them, but she had to runaway from that home then dad realize the situations and fix it🙄😒😮💨
I just finished my third time watching this series yesterday and I'm still coming back for clips of some of my favorite scenes. Her mother utterly destroyed any chance that NN would have any other good options if she refused this marriage by publicly listing all the unfavorable things about her own daughter...but General Ling said a great big F U to that, he loves all the things that are "imperfect" about NN and he wouldn't marry anyone else no matter how socially superior they supposedly were.
Me, I just finished my 2nd time rewatching the whole serie, I also rewatched several times some favorites scenes. However, second time watching makes me feel and cried so much seeing how NN is mistreated by her mother 😢😢😢, and understand more why NN choose to go away later in life when she was broken😢😢😢😢
Ling Buyi and ShaoShang are of the same mind and thoughts in this scene. Ling Buyi grew up hating his father and having a mother who could not take care of him because she had gone mad while Shaoshang was abandoned as a newborn for 15 years by her parents never knowing love. Both had to live very lonely lives so it made sense that Ling Buyi went all out to protect SS because he was not loved either but neither did his parents publicly renounce him as what SS mother did so it was natural male protective instincts on top of that Ling Buyi has to act fast he almost lost SS the last time to Lou Yao because he was too slow so now he was aggressive in his proposal. 🤣 Yuanyi (Shaoshang's mother) has a very complex personality in this drama, she gave birth to SS but she did not raise her thus all her love was given to her 3 sons whom were with her. Yuanyi really did not know how to show love to SS which is sad. Many have commented that Yuanyi can show love towards Yang Yang but not Shaoshang because Yuanyi met Yang Yang as a decent grown up adult its like when you meet a stranger for the first time and make friends with them immediately however Yuanyi found it hard to connect with her biological daughter because there was no connection apart from the fact that Yuanyi birthed SS almost immediately abandoning her. The betrayal outweighed any love that existed. 😢
I found that her mother's treatment of her was appalling. Yuanyi treated her niece like a daughter and neglected Shaoshang. At times it broke my heart watching Shaoshang's face when he mother took hold of her cousin and ignored Shaoshang. I could have cried for her. It was only when Shaoshang went to the palace with the Empress did she realise what she'd done. It was heartbreaking.
What an amazing and in-depth analysis! I have not watched this yet, but I think it is very interesting. Reading your thoughts have made me more interested in watching it!
@@trintron6820 You really need to watch it. It's fantastic. One of the best dramas I've ever watched. It has a lot of humorous undertones as well will lighten the darkness of the story at times. For me it's one of the best things I've ever watched and the cast are just phenomenal. There is so much going on in it that I picked up on things I'd missed on my second and third viewing of the drama. Obviously not everyone will agree with me on how good it is as we are all different but I was captivated from the very first episode. If you do watch it then I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Her MIL ordered the abandonment. Dad wasn’t around either. Aunt schemed to get third son having none. Fate intervened and twins born aunt got the girl.
I felt that "I'm a magnet for trouble". Because that is exactly who I am. And it is so heartbreaking knowing that I will always bring trouble even if my intentions were good.
I understand why LBY rushed things [he lost her last time because he was too late, he wanted to protect her, among other reasons] but I wish he hadn't caught her flat-footed. Someone as smart as he is should have realized that she would resent being pressured into a marriage that she didn't seem to want right after being pressured to give up a marriage that she seemed to want.
LBY had to get his proposal in quickly before she became engaged to someone else, after all he has missed out once already. I think SS was shocked because she doesn’t really believe in love as she has never known it. Her hearing LBY talk about her in that way how could she resist. SS had only met her brothers in recent months and Yao’s affection was brotherly too, this was the closest she had ever had to ‘love’. I have to add that the facial expressions of LBY and SS clearly show their feelings, masterful acting skills. Brilliant
I know we're all on the mother about how she trashed her own daughter, but my favourite part is when Shaoshang asks him whether, given all of that, he's still willing to marry her. The look on his face & the conviction in his tone, as if he can't believe there's any doubt about what his answer would be. This whole clip is really good, but that bit is why I keep rewatching it, it's so well performed.
Same omg, perfect delivery and that insane look when he goes "best woman around, no scratch that actually best woman in the world" AHHHHHH love is crazy lmao
Also "same". I wonder how many times LBY practiced his speech in his mind. He definitely wanted to incorporate the "best woman in the world" line knowing that this would hit CSS right in the feels. What's better is that for him it's actually the truth.
Loveeeeedd this dramaaa …!!! And the chemistry between them … Also I loved the Emperor…!!! I was a little disappointed because they never showed the wedding at the end …. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Honestly one of my favorite historical dramas. Ranks right up there with The Story of Ming Lan. Considering they were written by the same author, I look forward to more of these works of literary art.
i really couldn't stand the mother...i know the proposal came in unexpected...but does Niaoniao really have any choice? if she says no, her whole family will be dead (refuting the Emperor's decree a.k.a General Ling's proposal). when she said yes, her mother deemed it unfilial to them as parents... i mean, she just did the most logical thing. smh, i mean what do 15 yr old girl do these days compared to the decision Niaoniao made in the story...lol
The look in his eyes when she praises him, you can tell that he is indeed surprised at how much she esteemed him, like her he is used to people not having anything nice about him. Equally moving was the look on her face when he lists all her qualities, you can tell that she is shocked at how highly he esteems. her. The mum still can't accept anyone can see anything positive in her daughter that she still wants to speak up and disagree with LBY. Even the king thinks that Ss is an amazing woman and I love that he doesn't disagree with LBY and even decided to send her to live with the Empress for training
…and Yueng missed out 3 times😅Even when she finally agreed to marry him, General came back and took heru away from him again😅😅😅. So in love with drama❤
In this time SS hates her mom but also doesn't really want to be ingaged with LBY. She hates her saying bad things about her publicly, but still use it as excuse to dodge the proposal which failed miserably. When the emperor threat her parents she became hesitant, her thought is just how to save her parents or to pay back her mom so she decided to accept it for that time and will think of something to ran out off the engagement some other time.
I really don't understand her mother ....Niao Niao lack of lovely care from infant to adult, she need love ...her mother can show her tender care to Yang Yang but totally different with Niao Niao....in her eyes Niao Niao even not worthy to be happy....her judgement make her not worthy to be a mother😡😡so mad at her. Look like she never miss Niao Niao even after leaving her for 10 years...😂😂🤣🤣I know she will regret it later😂😂😂
I know right! I mean i know you're not close with your daughter but even i can figure out that niao niao will be pliant with love. Being tough on her will only result in the opposite of what she wants. How does she think the empress manages to secure a place in her heart?? What a terrible mother she is.
the parent abandoned Niao Niao for 15 years and yes Yuanyi (shaoshang's mother) will regret all she did almost towards the end of the series. the words - 'it was all too late' would describe the regret perfectly.
😂😂 Totally agree 🤗🤗 what she expect after abandoned Niao Niao for more than ten years 😡😡she never try to understand Niao Niao as a mother and I hate the way she talk about Niao Niao in public no compliment only bad comments, just don't get it she even used army punishment to punish poor Niao Niao 😭😭😭but I respect the rest of the family members for their support and love Niao Niao dearly except the grandmother...💖💖 especially general Ling
In contrary, she was very worried that she will mess everything up that leads her to suffer, she at that time is always in a feud with SS and still think that she is still too young and hasn't learn much which make more sense. As a military officer she wants to do everything systematically and step by step, first to fill in for the 15 years learning loss, then to fix her attitude and life ethics. LBY sudden public proposal made her panic and caught off guard, She is not used to do thing spontaneously and unplanned, That bad mouthing was a hint to say that SS in not ready according to her standards, she felt that SS could do trouble more than good with her quality by then which was also not wrong. I think she as a parents also in confusion on how to deal with daughter since she only deal with sons before. So she teach her as how she teaches her sons, she doesn't realize that daughters in general always learn fast and very sensitive to orders, its far more easier to teach daughter but will be very hard to kept them on track. Daughters will be filial if parents treat them with delicacy and love unlike sons.
@@iskotayo1 before she tried to fill the gap in her education she should have filled the gap in love. NNwas never shown love only hate and the person she should be able to count on the most, her mother, showed Haye as well.
I hated how her mom still tries to disrespect her daughter just cause she mad and didn't get her way in blocking her from marrying the General. Her dad is too soft and no backbone. His wife runs him and the whole house regardless if she's wrong. Smh! He should have here actually dealt with his own wife here and told his daughter not to kneel down.
After Niao Niao's mom ran her down so much, I'm amazed that NN didn't burst out crying (the other Noble Biatches would have), but NN is made of sterner stuff and doesn't take offense. Instead she makes up her own mind and agrees to LB's proposal. Amazing drama! I've watched scores of C-D's and never seen the like for storyline and acting.
Honestly I was so angry at her mom. When it was luo yao she disapproved for no reason and now she even insults her daughter in public so that she doesn't marry Long buy I...what does she want!!!
She was trying to protect both NN and the whole family. Knowing the complexities of the imperial court, NN's personality and tendency for trouble, NN could easily end up executed, along with entire family.
No, she really felt that NN was not good enough for anyone but ordinary man and family. There are so many stages and so many ways to break an engagement but she chose to humiliate her daughter meaning she didn't care about her daughter's reputation because her expectations were so low.
Exactly , marriage is between the two ppl involve not the parents , not the sister's, not the brothers , not the elders in the family , ..just them two 👍
Young Princess fainted for what?🤣 He told her many times over the he don't like her, not in love with her, won't marry her over his dead body and stop trying to manipulate/force him to marry her cause it would just make him hate her more. 🙄 Girl bye... faint away... he still won't care. These spoiled grown children who refuse to grow up. Emperor respond is classic... she's just drunk. 🤣
Chinese parents do one of two things: praise and exaggerate their children’s talents and behaviour or put them down and constantly comparing them in negative light to their friends’ children. The latter was my experience which is why Niao Niao is my favourite Chinese drama heroine.
Ling buyi repete a mesma frase que ele ouviu escondido da conversa da qiqi e niaoniao na casa dos wan. Sobre o amor da avó de qiqi e seu avô. Sorry chubbybear you are incorrect about ling buyi because he couldn't love a man who claim as his father but he was devoted to the woman he called his mother even though at the end his actual parents were murder
Anyone remember in what episode did the Empress promise Lou jtong a relationship with LBY?? Jton'g maid mentions this promise in ep. 24 just before this proposal....
She never promised her a relationship with him... that's what she wanted to happen...but every time they tried to marry him off...he went to war to avoid the engagement.... that's why the Emperor and Empress gave up on marrying him off. Jitong is delusional just like the princess.. she did the same thing when she followed him back to the Capitol. She told anybody that would listen that she was marrying him.
