Are u telling me a bad white rapper, got a bad "kid and play" hair cut, got ears on his head, turned bad break dancer, got married, joined the military and immediately quit, had a kid, got divorced, turned back into a bad white rapper, became a bad tattoo "artist", went back to being a bad dancer, became a bad DJ, joined a band that rhymes with"Chimp Wizkit", burned out as fast as Woodstock 99' and made the best Devan Sawa movie and Worst John Travolta movie simultaneously.....thats the origin story for Fred Durst? Ok..that tracks!
Kids today won’t know what it’s like to buy a new CD..open it and read thru the art of the booklet. Then pop it in and immerse yourself in the songs of your favorite bands. And listen over and over and over.
although i was born in 2006, i always had a connection to music from the 1990s, and 2000s. i have many cds, and i can say i get the excitement of new cds, i love the art, and i love reading the lyrics even though i know them. i love reading the thanks notes at the end of the booklet because the artists leaves little messages.. i love it so much!! i ask for cd’s for christmas and my birthday. it’s the best ever. i recently got significant other and i opened it so excitedly and i can’t wait for more :3 i even burn my own cd’s and give them to my friends and family
I even have this cassette tape on my yellow Walkman, because it was hard to run back in the day with a disk man without its skipping so cassette was much better for running
He was destined to do that, from the year he made that demo video to the year they hit it he stuck with it, you got to give person that has that dedication
Mainly it was being Friends with Jonathan Davies at a time when Jonathan Davies got ANYTHING he wanted from his label because Korn was arguably bigger than even Metallica at that time.
Just saw them at Wembley 2023. One of the best gigs ever. Limp Bizkit, the band everyone loves to hate but those in the know know just how good they are.
Same bro. Saw them for the first time ever just the other week. I initially bought tickets to go see megadeth, and limp bizkit played afterwards. Megadeth was low energy, disappointing but I get it they’re old. Limp is old too, but they fuckin killed it. Best live show ever. Insane energy and breakdowns. I’m on a crusade to bring Justice to limp bizkit name 😂
They might not be hitting the record sales, or topping the charts like they once were, but head to any Limp Bizkit show, and it'll still be one of the best shows you watch live. Nobody can get the crowd hyped and pumping like Fred can.
Just seen them at gunnersbury I have never been to a concert where everyone in crowd so mental for them and pendulum were also Incredible I'm seein them in sacramento at aftershock! Unreal!
I absolutely love Limp Bizkit. I worked the Family Values tour in 1998. I almost got arrested with John Otto in Denver for walking down the street with his paintball gun and going into a paintball store. John told the police it was him. He's truly a straight up, good guy.
I’ve always had love for LB. However, it wasn’t till recently I started to hear some of the guitar riffs and quickly realized I took this band for granted. I’m even a bigger fan of these guys now.
Yeah, I remember sitting through Dave Matthews who put on the worst live performance I've seen in my life, then LB came out and made everything better. Then Kid Rock came out and was almost as bad as Dave Matthews. Since then I've seen Hinder who is probably worse than all of them. I guess what I'm saying is my girlfriends have really bad taste in music. ha ha
@@aaronposter6852 i wouldnt exactly say it was unfair. its unfair to BLAME what happened on them entirely, but they absolutely certainly fanned the flames. i dunno about the rest of the band but fred durst absolutely knew what he was doing to the crowd. fred should be crucified for that to some degree.
Sometimes I hate the way the world works. After 2003 music changed not necessarily in a bad way but that 99 to 2003 stretch of life as a kid growing up on this music and loving these times was incredible. I wish I could go back man. Korn, LB, Eminem, WWF when it was good...ugh..I hate time
Imo that period of musical excenlence was 90-00 Multiple golden ages in different genres...End of hairmetal being replaced by grunge, trash and Nu Metal. Rap and hiphop broke through to mainstream. EDM broke through to mainstream in Europe. I enjoyed it all
@@Qwerty2OG Ha I have you both beat. It was the 80s guys, that was "IT". Metallica, Maiden, Cru, and so many, many more. My metal birthed your metal lol. Girls were ink and piercing free, no one took pills or meth, (we fucking drank though), and life was pretty care free. It's all subjective I guess.
The real issues of the Woodstock ‘99 festival have already been revealed. Much of the festival had the fans standing on hot concrete, they charged ridiculous prices for water and made it hard to get, and also did the same with food. I’m sure “Break stuff” might not of helped but the lack of food, water, and excessive heat had already taken the toll on the audience before Limp Bizkit came on. Red Hot Chili Peppers were the ones to first notice what was going on and address it. The producers of the festival should have been the ones blamed and held accountable. There’s a documentary on it.
Yep unfortunately the band was an easier scapegoat then going after the promoters. It happens constantly. Yes there are times the artist is responsible aka Travis Scott but sometimes go directly to the source promoters
I’m an old school metal head. I started listening to metal back before Priest sharpened the heavy metal sword. Around 1978. I was there when NWOBHM swept through and there to witness the birth of thrash/speed/death metal. I loved it all. When nu-metal hit the scene, I was open to it. But with Pantera reigning in the 90’s, nu-metal wasn’t my “go to” metal fix. But I did enjoy Korn, Static X and Limp Bizkit and Hed Pe (criminally underrated) . And even purchased their CD’s at times. I would gladly support any band that keeps heavy music alive. Today, at 56 yrs old, I still like any band that plays heavy music (metal core, death core, whatever ) Currently listening to Slaughter to Prevail, Lorna Shore, Wage War and some Emmure. And there’s thousands of other killer bands out there making contemporary metal. I don’t try to sub-categorize metal into a million different genres. If it hits you in the face like a nail spiked baseball bat, it’s metal. This old dude is just happy to see young kids keeping music heavy. When I see young bands headbanging likes it’s 1984, it gives me faith in humanity. Metal heads need to stick together. There’s no room for metal elitists when the chips are down. I’m just glad there’s a younger generation ready to answer the call. Go heavy or go home. Metal for life, FTW🤘🏻
Bad ass man. I grew up with slayer, sepultura, and even heavier like deicide and cannibal coarse. I also loved beastie boys, Krs one and wu-tang. I’m 41 now and listening to zero rap, not at all what it used to be and turning my 12 year old on to rage against the machine and nofx. Huge variety of music. I love everything in between. I’ll be dying while listening to my metal
@@markfowler5075 Yep Slayer, Metallica, Pantera and Sepultura opened the way for me at 14...Now 46 and listen to so many bands. It's like an addiction really for me. I'm constantly finding new music. At the moment I'm listening to a lot of Brutal Death but will still put on some punk or old school rap every now and then. Music is my medication when I feel low. Currently loving Analepsy, Crown Magnetar and Gutrectomy. 🤘
@@Wicked_R correct and not one fucking mention off them on this video. . Old school metal head here, grew up in LA, seem Metallica open for other bands and years later started a small riot at one off their shows by playing hacky sack with an empty coors party ball in the parking lot. Great times
I feel like Fred Durst would have been successful no matter what he had pursued. He just has that drive and doesn't let any shortcomings hold him back.
@@JJ-ze6vb yes but that's exactly the point. He spotted Wes' talent and recruited him. He's not a talented vocalist but he's an excellent A&R guy and a pretty shrewd businessman
Give a MASSIVE round of applause to the creator of this channel for putting so much work into these videos that highlight such a unique and unforgettable time in music history. The nu-metal era may be gone, but the music from that time, timeless.
Nu-Metal is not really gone, it's just not as popular. Rock stations just aren't as popular and neither is the entire rock scene. But that's ok it's back where it belongs for us outcast.
@@t3chninja_official the metal scene is doing amazing right now. More specifically the metalcore and deathcore scenes are thriving. Hell, Lorna Shore is playing lollapalooza this year.
Music timeless?.....c'mon, be really........they Are very Good but riffs Are so simple, lirics.....mmm so so, but they would be forgoten.........the Best thing about LB Are Wes Makeup........i mean its fuckin Art!!!
Never understood the hate towards LB. Their songwriting progress by far surpasses most of the metal being released these days where everything is formulaic. No other band sounded back then like LB, no other band can sound like them. Great guitar riffs, drum beats coupled with cool bass lines, and once you get past Fred Durst's douchebaggery, you can find some great lyric content there. Any band would kill to have the combination of talent LB had. Yes, had, because everything after Chocolate Starfish has been nothing to write home about.
Fred durst is the problem, he's surrounded by talented musicians but he himself isn't a musician. His lyrics suck and he sounds like a cat being tazed.
If you weren’t there during that time, then you just don’t get it. Just like any time in music…And if you don’t believe LB was liked, take a look at the 90’s live videos. You don’t have that many people jumping around for no reason.
I love to watch your videos, because it's not just well known mainstream info on bands and artists, there's a lot of background insight and links between careers, locations and events that happened, I appreciate much. Thanks for offering independent views w/ these documentations, and about the business. Cheers from Germany, Susan Ville (former artist manager)
The problem is the all this information is corrupt, every damn bit of it. I know Fred and was there in the beginning. Limp Bizcut played a a local metal bar venue Spikes Dog house every Friday and,Saturday night for a year. He was never a tattoo artist his best friend was. All this video is fake news
I still have a middle school yearbook that I wrote “I ♥️ Wes Borland” all over lmao. Seeing Fred wearing an Etnies shirt really took me back too… To be young again. I miss those days.
As a very long time limp fan, I’m very impressed with the quality and facts stated in this video! Great work man can’t wait to check out your other videos
The period of 1999 to 2001 when they were one of the biggest bands in the world, nothing can take that away from them. No amount of hate or naysayers will ever touch it!
@@SovereignKing yeah....i think You right, but they should show up and just destroy the other bands.........but they didnt so limp bizkit did it for them!!!
I think fred durst was so lame and a try hard and had lame lyrics. The rest of the band was amazing. Put chino moreno in front of tge members of limo bizkit without durst, or put brandon boyd and you have one of the greatest bands of all time.
Ask Fred durst…. He ran his mouth way to much to the wrong people way to early in his career….not to mention he made grudge music… that type of music was just short lived… I myself was a fan but between his mouth and the inability to adapt he was doomed from the beginning
Kids these days will never understand how cool Fred Durst was 1998 to 2000. Literally every kid was rocking a red yankees cap and wearing a "nookie patrol" t shirt. Edit: metal snobs and pretentious hipster check👇🏻
The media hounded Fred so much back in the day. He was always kind to fans and respectful in interviews. People mistook the character he was in the band for his real person, he was blamed for what happened in Woodstock 99 and the accident in Big Day Out. Even his feuds in the music industry are justifiable, Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson made fun of him, Christina Aguilera was ungrateful with him, Britney denied her relationship with him and he was accused of being a liar, and her feud with Corey was to defend her friends from Korn in which Slipknot started the feud, not to mention that he didn't even make those comments publicly. The media and music industry tried to make him look like he was the worst, but anyone who is smart enough and knows the facts knows that this is not true.
Watched them at Milkbar since 1995 when maybe 20 people were there. Had a tattoo done by Fred at Westside Tattoo and was there when he met Johnathan Davis swapping tats for demo tapes. It's a great story. They blew up when I left for the military. Next thing I know they were everywhere because of "Faith". Although "Counterfeit" and "Stuck" was their best songs. Very happy and blessed to be part of their beginnings.
Limp Bizkit is fucking awesome. You can't change my mind. When I was in high school, one of my classmate bought their first CD and man, it was instant love.
I’m glad I got into Limp Bizkit before knowing anything about them or about the hate they faced, so I had a completely unbiased opinion and I can say that I loved them from the first time I’ve heard them, they have a very unique sound, even so different from the other bands in the same era.
I can tell you have a lot of talent making these documentaries. This is probably the best rock documentary channel I’ve ever seen. So glad that there’s more creators instead of VH1 behind the music.
I haven't heard an album yet by any genre that will ever touch Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water. Only album I can honestly say that every song was good. I can jam it on repeat all day long
Other albums that gave me the same feeling were Faithless' Reverence, Katatonia's The Great Cold Distance, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory, and (the dragon) Tool's Lateralus.
I don't care what anybody says this band is fucking awesome. Other metalheads always rip on this band, but it's funny all the musicians I know appreciate the shit out of them. Funny thing about the metal community seems like the listeners are very close-minded but the players are open to just about anything
@@midnight347 bro you can't even call it gatekeeping that's just fucking ignorant, in the world of the internet there's no such thing as gatekeeping in music anymore. If anybody uses the term gatekeeping it means they're not good enough that they're fucking instrument or they're not talented enough to come up with good ideas to convey to everybody else. There's no gatekeeping anymore time and time again bands prove that you don't need the record industry for shit, and if you want to say anything about algorithms it's got nothing to do with what type of band it is that everything to do with whoever program that algorithm and what message they want put across or not but you can get around that too if you have half a brain
Love their music especially in the gym. Gets me pumped every time. I dont think they are as successful as they once were but their recent shows look like a good time. Don’t be surprised if they make a comeback.
I will always love Limp Bizkit. I remind, when I got the Chocolate Starfish CD as a birthday gift as a little kid. Not a doubt, that they influenced me.
When the whole band met @interscope to sign their first contract, 5members = 20% ea. Fred showed up w/his attorney n demanded 51%, the rest of the band had to split 49% ! The band should united n not signed.
@@kaliguevara3147 here we are a couple decades later and looking at all the fans singing some of the dumbest lyrics ever recorded like it’s we are the champions. Meh, who cares, I’m proud to ignorantly shout the lyrics.
1st time I seen them was in Asbury Park NJ at the Warped Tour. I was 15 and my buddy Martin got tickets to go. We seen bands like Blink 182, Sick of it all, Bad Fish and No Doubt, The sound LB had and their look ( Wes Borland) stood out from a crowd of many popular artists that played that day. At the time DJ lethal was not present in the group. instead it was someone else I couldn't ID. I remember not being able to hear out of my ears for 2 days straight because we made our way to the front stage every chance we got! Thanks for the Great memories!
I watched these guys at the big day out in Auckland New Zealand around the year 2000. Think I was 17, was the best live concert I've ever seen to this day.
One thing Fred Durst understood from the beginning - any press is good press. If you can't get positive attention, then just go for negative attention, because it's ALL attention.
10 Foot Shindig turned onto 10 Foot Grundig. I grew up in Jacksonville during all this time. I was involved in the music scene there. Not in a band, but the piercer for a lot of bands, so I was hanging out with all the guys in LB, Cold, Shinedown, and others. Rob was one of my good friends. He passed a few years ago. RIP Rob
Fred is still one of my favs to go see, family values tour,Woodstock 99 were just one of those memorable things of life, especially before 2001. His voice is always on point and seamless, amazing crowd entertainment. you're always gonna have a good time. I woke up this morning singing livin it up and now I'm here. 90s - mid 2000s were just phenomenal music choices for every genre that will send you back in time
a lot of metal fans hated limp Bizkit bc they hated hip hop & rap & couldnt stand the combination. plus obvi they hated Fred durst attitude. i ❤️❤️❤️limp Bizkit. their music BANGs🔥🔥🔥
Fred & Wes are back together again kicking ass. I did not know they were Florida based, but NYC based. Thanks for this short but incomplete documentary
I ALWAYS appreciated Wes Bor staying in the band, it always looked like he was doing his own thing within the band, of course, but he never took off for good. Just amazes me how someone can craft his own thing, in a group not doing it…if that makes sense…
Was lucky enough to be able to see them live back in 2013 when I just got here in Sydney, Australia, coming from Brazil. Didn’t think twice and bought me and my mate the tickets. Certainly a concert to never forget!
Ahhhhhh, f*ck. I was loving this until the abrupt ending, as I had been eager to hear about the details surrounding Results May Vary and Wes' return for the Unquestionable Truth. Great work otherwise. *Please* do a part 2!
They are rolling fine today, seen em at Madison Square Garden recently. Place was loaded with older and young people. The new album Still Sucks, doesnt, and life is good all around it seems for them.
Saw them live many years ago with Eminem, Papa Roach and Xibit and it was a wicked kick ass show Regardless of what they do now in their prime they were kicking ass
his attempt was okay but he missing so much and knows nothing about the band how they toured for there hole lives sadly America only country that there not big in
How come you missed Nookie - the biggest single by LB and one of the most notorious songs of the late 90s, didn't talk about LB's biggest record so far "Significant Other" which is a 7x platinum album (bigger than Chocolate Starfish) that single handedly catapulted LB to stardom, not even a word about My Way, Behind Blue Eyes or other Bizkit's timeless classics, didn't mention the several featurings with prominent rappers that brought Metal and Hip Hop together and redefined a whole Era on mainstream music, completely ignored Gold Cobra and the most recent LB album "Still Sucks" and the band's new life?? I love the documentaries about bands on this channel and I was super excited awaiting for this one regarding the biggest Nü Metal band ever, but after watching it I feel kinda disappointed. I'd like to see a "part 2" if possible, about the hot topics that are missing on this one. Nevertheless, thanks for this piece. Hope to see more Nü Metal docs soon 🤘
I try and keep these documentaries to about 30 minutes which is not a lot of time to talk about a 20/30/40 year career for some artists so it's hard to pick what I think is the most important aspects of any artists career. I could easily put together an hour long documentary on every artist but then I feel people might become bored so it's a fine line to walk! I do appreciate the feedback though! Pantera is next and that will be longer than 30 minutes for sure.
@@RAWMUSICTV I totally understand that. I just feel that you gave much attention (and time on this video) to the band's formation and early years and focused less on the main topics that would come from 1999 onwards. I think it'd be even greater if those moments were covered on this video too. But that's just my humble feedback. Anyways, it's your channel, your work, your rules man. Thanks a lot for the share and for revisiting the journey of one of the greatest metal bands of all time 🙌 We need more of this type of content nowadays 🤘 Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
I appreciate the feedback man! To be honest, watching this one back it felt way to short and like I could have covered a lot more so some things I will consider in the future for sure! Obrigada!
@@RAWMUSICTV we can always learn something from it and improve. I'm sure it will keep getting better and better. Thank you for providing another documentary about another great band that impacted a whole generation 👏
@@RAWMUSICTV Just saying, I would absolutely love 60 minute docs of your content! It would be perfect length for most, and pt 2s could be done easily of previous bands covered!
The Milk Bar was the best club in Jacksonville. It was a basement club that only held maybe 500 people. It was dark and gross. The best club for the punk scene. I can remember seeing Korn there in like 94 or 95, among so many punk bands
As a 38 year old metal head i was right there for these times.. im more into Pantera, fear factory, old school metallica stuff but Limp and korn definitely deserve credit for everything they have done for the metal scene in general.. Pantera saved metal in the 90s then korn, limp and manson took over from there... Pantera is still easily the best tho... Rock on people..🤘
Dude I went and seen Korn last summer. One of the biggest concerts I’ve seen. I didn’t realize they were still that big. I’ve been dragged to popular pop/ rap concerts that didn’t nearly bring the same amount of people and the energy they got from the crowd
@@liljuanito123 bro stfu!! What year??!! And what venue? I saw Fear Factory in the late 90’s with Pantera headlining in SA too at Sunken Garden Theater. Wonder if it was the same show! Hell yeah man core memory opened 😂 first time I ever got high too 😂
I don't care what anyone says about Limp Bizkit, they're sick! I've always liked them and will always like them. I was super excited when they dropped Gold Cobra because I thought the boys were back in true LB form, but unfortunately they stopped. I personally thought Gold Cobra was an amazing album, easily the best thing they'd done since Chocolate Starfish. Maybe someday we'll get another true LB album, if so I'll definitely be hyped for it.
Thank you! I was wondering wtf this documentary is talking about. I’ve never seen so many back handed compliments in my life. Fuck this guy talking! Lol.
Yeah Cold Cobra was a really great album. Has their signature sound while trying a few new things. I hate the newest album. It's so boring, Like they didn't even try.
I absolutely loved Limp Bizkit. I’m 44 and I still listen to them. They came out when I graduated high school and I loved them. I never understood why there was so much hate shown to this band. They are very talented and kicked ass! #LongLiveTheBizkit
Well that ending was abrupt. No mention of their 2005 EP, their 2011 and 2021 albums, and how they've continued touring. Right now they're on a big high again, playing to big crowds and headlining festivals.
