Its the neckdive :) Great video, and what a beautiful SG specimen you've got there and a nice tone as well. SG's really are the perfect solid body electric and the design, playability, feel and tone are unmatched. Hope you're still enjoying yours!
I have a 2003. Just a great guitar to play. Effortless. Perfect weight and no neck dive. And a thicker neck as you said. Agree about the pickups. Thought about changing them, but they are great. No need. It may be the only guitar I have that the word "mojo" applies.
A long time ago , when chepo guitars werent really good at all (like early 2000s ) ... as a kinda beginner but knowing im going to continue playing guitar i wanted my first "real electric guitar" ... and was eyeballing Les Pauls (coz they look so sweet) ... but i allways was a tall and very slender guy ... and everytime i picked up a Les paul they were so heavy, i literally could anticipate the backpain i would get playing them while standing ... then i stumbled upon a used and modded 1995 Limited edition SG (its dark blue with golden hardware) ... picked it up, fell in love.. bought the damn thing :D . Sounds great but plays even better (and it even stays in tune, most of the time :D )... its so responsive and its so light and comfy you forget your holding a guitar and and you just play. Never regreted getting a SG instead of a les paul. My second favorite bodyshape became the PRS bodyshape (i honestly didnt know about PRS is a thing back then ^^ ), but the SG still is my favorite, just from a ergonomics and "how playing it feels" standpoint.
I really really love mine a lot. It sounds amazing and plays just as well. Looks so good too. I couldn’t be happier with mine and don’t plan on playing anything else after getting one of these
I’ve owned my Les Paul for almost 4 years and love it. I have owned 2 SGs one special faded and one classic but, never a standard. Your sounds and looks good Bill.
Nice guitar!! I was blessed to buy a CS VOS '64 maybe a year or a bit more ago. Have been too ill to play it, and it, too, needs some adjustments similar to what you had done. But it is really beautiful; and at 6.9 pounds, really light! Trucks says the lighter they are, the better they are!
I sold a bunch of guitars...Ibanez, Kramer, Jackson, Strats and Gibson LPs and an SG. I felt it was a bad idea selling the SG, a 2006 Heritage Cherry Standard like yours, had a few dings all over the place but had 57 Classic pickups. Now I am depressed. I have a 2013 Red Sunburst LP Standard and a a 1986 LP Custom in black. Great guitars, but there was something about that SG. Now I am on the hunt for another and I will find one. Your vid rubbed it in how bad I feel about losing the first one. It played like a dream. With case and case candy all for $750. I have been kicking myself.
Hi there , I just bought the Gibson SG 2019 Standard , and I’m totally agreeing with you, having not owned an SG before , I wish I’d tried one years ago . What a lovely guitar to play and the tonality of it has blown me away . I actually traded my Les Paul Standard in for the SG . I primarily did this to have a guitar with better access to higher frets but still wanted to stay with a Gibson . I’ve had Stats and Prs’s and other Les Pauls before, but this cherry red beauty has eclipsed those guitars in my eyes . Great video , thanks ....Pete from Malvern in England 😊
Chris Phillips ... I would yes . Obviously it all comes down to personal preference . Since I wrote the post you commented on I have purchased a Vintage icon series Strat . It was £340 . I had a guitar tech set it up properly and this guitar is better ( I think anyway ) than normal fenders . I’m thinking of getting a Tele from the same company . They also do les Paul’s and SG’s . They are an English company . I always advise giving any new guitar a professional set up from a good guitar tech .
One of these days you’ll be on major record labels like Capitol Records or Columbia Records or Epic Records or Atlantic Records or Warner Records (Formerly Warner Bros Records) or RCA Records or Motown Records or Hollywood Records or Interscope Records or Virgin Records
Killer video man. I enjoyed this. I have no gibsons yet. I know they are well part of a heritage like the strat etc. I would love have one one day. Great playing too.
Nice jam man! I grabbed my SG standard and joined you! I didn't think I was an SG guy until a few years, I went to the store planning to buy a Tele shawbucker deluxe until I played it and just didn't really like anything about that one. I grabbed the 2017 standard and fell in love. Now I'm trying to sell my Les Paul to fund another SG with p90s.
@@BillDutton I just got out of a session tonight. I used my sg and a Tele for rythm parts. I was really surprised how sparkly the lollars where. They really did the job. I never played the Tele after all ha ha
Hi. Nice vid. What is the range of this Guitar? Is it just for beginners, intermediate or advanced players? Is it good for concerts and recording? Or shall I make it an upgrade? Thanks a lot.
This is an awesome guitar for any level of player and it's most certainly a pro level instrument. I've recorded and played this guitar live and it's really fantastic. I highly recommend!
Got one coming in about a week. Purists are gonna want to kill me but I like different. My other guitar is a Fender Alternate Universe Sixty-Six boy and I love it, the SG is Pelham Blue. Jay Turser JT 50 Custom Sg with Gold hardware over Gibson all day long unfortunately the Jay Turser JT 50 Custom doesn't come with Gold hardware Anymore Gibson saw to that...I have one and would never part with it
Hey Bill, nice vid ! How does the neck compare with the LP and 335 ? I always played Slim Taper SG's that are too thin for my hand. I'm curious to try the 64' reissue the CS is coming up with: real FAT neck :) !
frantisca - This particular SG has a nice fat neck, I haven’t measured it (looks like time to do so!) but it feels thicker than my LP & 335. The neck really make this a pleasure to play.
@@BillDutton I have an Osiris 6 string. It's the best guitar I have ever had and I've had core Prs models Gibson's and Fenders. The price you pay for what you get is simply outstanding.
