Hi Liam, an effective way to know how much winch rope is left is simply to spray the last 5 or so meters or mark at 5 meters with a bright colour or wrap sticky tape to make a little flag!

Buy your lady a big bunch of flowers she was great you explained things clearly to her and she picked up perfectly great communication between you both hold her hand she looks like she was having fun well done

Nice job,I usually can't stand cooking segments on 4wd clips,mainly because of those "grab me a iron jack out of the fridge clowns "but I actually enjoyed this one,Sian presents really well to camera.

Good trip away guys, definitely a good vibe having Sian on the channel, too she did great. 🤘

A tip for fixing winch ropes, winch it in / out to the point where the rope is as far out as it will go. Then pull the winch rope up to the bullbar and wrap it around a few times (you can pull a bite of rope rather then feed the hook and all the rope around). No knots required. Pull on the end of the wraps tight and winch out. The loops will hold the rope tight and as you winch out it will force the rope out (just like using the vehicle weight did). Once its free, undo the wraps and if necessary repeat the process to get more rope unstuck. As for your fuel pump. An electric lift pump isn't a bad idea especially if you also have an aftermarket secondary fuel filter. The Patrol fuel pump is built "good enough" to work fine when new, but doesnt have much extra capacity so any loss of pump power or additional resistance will start to push the pump to its limits. Hope you head a little further East next time towards my neck of the woods. Left Hand Branch Tk is a fairly easy and mostly flat track, but with endless creek crossings. It literally follows the creek and crosses back and forth as the creek winds from side to side. Depending on the weather, moat of the creek crossings are pretty shallow and its a great place to learn to 4WD. The first creek crossing from Freestone Creek Tk tends to be the deepest and there's occasionally a hole dug in due to inexperienced drivers getting nervous about the somewhat steep and slick climb out of that crossing. I've taken my GQ Wagon through it (2" lift with 33's) and before that my old Rodeo dual cab (stock, no snorkle with 31's) and never had a problem. A couple of sections will have you turn down / up the creek for a short while. The deepest I've ever seen it had me nervous in my Rodeo without a snorkel, but still made it though. A lifted GQ with snorkel wont have any issues unless in a major flood. Turn up Lloyds Knob Link Tk, which is steep but generally well graded, left onto Lloyds Knob Tk and down Lees Creek Link Tk. Youll have some good views along the way and wind up at Lee's Creek. There is a walking track there that goes past some old gold mine workings, no spectacular water wheels, but there are some signs of old house sites, a water race etc. its a 3km return walking track, when I last went on it it was less than obvious where the track actually was, so I'd recommend taking a handheld GPS with waypoints plotted to help you (it may have been improved since). You can access Left Hand Branch Tk off Freestone Ck Road which has some bumpy rocky sections, but nothing that a 2WD couldn't handle, but if you prefer the more sceanic route take Quarry Rd into "The Quarries" camping area. Google maps doesnt show it (satellite view shows part of it if you look close enough), but Quarry Rd drops down to a creek crossing and continues out the other side. OpenStreetMaps (OsmAnd app, but many other apps like NewTracs use OpenStreetMaps for their data) shows more tracks, but still isnt perfect. It starts right behind the toilet block and the first hairpin turn is very tight, most vehicles will need to reverse back a bit to make the turn and you may end up lifting a wheel depending on the track condition, but it's not too hard or scary and the rest of the track is pretty easy. Theres three tracks you can take, Boundary Tk, Snail Pace Rd, both of which have secondary looping tracks you can take, or Sounding Gap Tk. Then Duffy Rd and McKinnons Point Tk, where you'll end up back on Freestone Creek Tk. NewTracs lists most of them as easy, with McKinnons Point Track as medium. McKinnons Point track has one steepish section of clay that turns REALLY slick when wet (sometimes possible to climb it with plenty of wheel speed) but coming in from the Quarries towards McKinnons Point camp ground will have you driving down that. Be warned that Freestone Creek is fed by nine creeks and rivers upstream and has a huge catchment area, at McKinnons Point campsite it may be as shallow as 10cm, normally half a tire deep, but in full flood will get to several metres. It's my favourite route in to the area. If you do come this way, let me know, I might join you for a day trip.

When you get a mrs that will get on the winch you put a ring on it. My wifes the only one i want running my winch now. She knows what and how i want it done.

Spool your which line in from the start (about 6 rings on the drum to prevent it being pulled off) under tension - either with it tied to a big tree or another car, keep clicking your handbrake on, click by click until you can hear the winch working a little bit so you know the winch line has decent tension on it. If you have a nicely spooled winch rope, when recovering the rope should follow the previous neat, tensioned rope pattern underneath it.

The hose that went to my brothers filter housing had a pin hole in it mate, was causing similar issues to what your seeing, And for the winch rope mate, try keeping pressure on the rope when you winch in ;)

If you’re looking for a front locker, I can’t highly recommend a lokka (auto locker 4wd systems) enough. When on sale $425 easy enough to install yourself and won’t let you down. Been running in the front of my patrol for 2 and a half years

Very nice to see a safety first attitude coupled with do no damage and clean it up. Well done to you both.

I think Patrolapart or The4WDshed sell a winch rope device like a little strap with a loop on each end that stops the last six or so rope wraps from pulling off the drum. I bought one for $20. If you spool in with slack the rope will dig in hard into the soft wraps & bind up. You could have started the day with a tightly wound rope but after a long pull it would be a PITA to neatly respool 45 meters of rope under tension each time.

Liam. Whether you pump is on the sad side, or super duper 12mm brand new high performance unit, it will always benefit supported by a lift pump. Just think, it has to suck oily (heavy diesel fuel), through >10mm line from the tank and then distribute it to injectors. One of the best mods I've ever done to my stock standard 11mm pump on my GU TDi, was add a Holley red, lift pump. It transformed the car, and allowed it to rev so much better too. Edit: I forgot to mention, it's relatively cheap too and bugger all effort to install.

Head socks, hippy use, and a beanie. 90% of heat loses heat. I have the breakaway lifestyle camper. Same has going overland. I have a standard diesel heater. Mounted on a timber board with supports. I put the inlet in jerry can, with plastic bag to stop the rain. Fuel filter and pump rapped in a rag. Look at the viking cloak , woollen blanket, and use to sit around the fire. Who cares the way you look has long has your warm. Blankets can be used on bed.

I would love to see more of these short trips in Victoria. I am no longer able to do overnights in the High Country like I used to (animal commitments) but being in the Yarra Valley I can certainly do some long day trips. Enjoyed this muchly.

Nice one fellas even tho a few dramas, so much exploring up there. With the winch before you go spool the whole thing out then wind in one neat layer followed by a very quick pass to the other side if that makes sense then another neat layer and so on. Having a diagonal pass acts as a barrier to stop the rope getting buried in the layer below, you can never aviod it happening altogether on occasions but resooling like this when you get a chance lessens the likelihood by a great deal. Johnsons hut is usually locked apart from that first room so interesting to see the main area. Looks like nice built 11 or 12mm pump may be on the cards lol (what a shame) and lockers one day (think this beast deserves both) once that's done will be a bloody awesome thing 👍👍👍
