The "Tragic" OST at the end of this episode is one of my all time favorites. The sight of Yamato's panic, the fox raining down a meteorshower of hellfire from above, and Naruto losing the last bits of his human conscience; altogether make the scene and soundtrack so memorable.

It's funny, I didn't realize this OST has been used in the series before, because it became so iconic for this scene for me. I can't hear it without thinking of possessed Naruto slowly shambling forward, while the fox outside devastates the landscape.

Love the animation here. It really sells the concept of "rage" and "hatred", like it deforms you. I do agree that it looks way better on Naruto than it does on Pain, but having both of them like that does help make you feel that Pain's hatred and pain are just as insane as the hatred and pain Naruto is feeling. *That's what this fight is: a clash of Naruto's hatred, open and gushing out like a fresh wound, and Pain's, an old scar that never stopped bleeding.*

i could add the controvesy for me is pretty plain, cause tendo is not a human, doesnt have control over the muscles as one, its controled by chakra in points of his body, thats why it acts cartoonish for me, and i think its a pretty goddamn job in behalf of the animation

In this battle, pain looks like a puppet, his movements are not natural, Nagato is not worrying if he does his movements correctly, he is fighting against the 9 tails, it is not time to keep up appearances, that's why I like that animation, emphasizes the idea that pain is nothing more than a body being controlled.

To me, this style of animation is amazing as you said it captures the extreme power and speed of this intense fight. If you look at people in slow motion who are moving very fast whether it's in combat sport or Olympic diving their skin starts to move similar to this style of intimation. The looney tunes moment was an odd choice but for me, it somehow works.

I think this is my favorite episode of the whole show. Everything is perfect, the insane pace, the fight, the emotional impact, the animation. I understand why someone did not like this animation style, but I think it's just due to the first reaction of surprise. After that you realize that it perfectly fits the episode and the fight! And as expected your reaction and discussion was priceless! Good job! 👏🏻👏🏻

I thought the animation was silly at first, cuz I remember seeing the memes about this fight before watching the show. But then I actually saw the whole thing start to finish and realized it's a work of art... theres so much detail in every frame and each and every frame drawn completely separate for like half the episode... and dont even get me started about the symbology! The animation also kinda reminds me of Studio 4C

I like this animation too, very fluid and intense. But, I just prefer the style they did with the hokage fight and stuff. It’s a bit more realistic. But then again, you have a giant fox fighting against a guy who controls push and pull.

This fight really stands out among other anime fights, not just because of the animation, but because of how it’s chaotic the fight is… there can be a fight that’s really powerful technically, but it doesn’t FEEL powerful because there’s not enough destruction everywhere and it isn’t fast and chaotic enough… But THIS, this just FEELS *really* powerful, more so than the final fights of Naruto even though you know it’s not

I like the animation this episode and the ep definitely gives me the chills. Though I think she is not going to enjoy the series as much as she enjoyed part 1 if she can’t understand Pains plan and Motives. Many Characters in the future are evil for the sake of “Peace” and their backstory’s all make them enjoyable characters but she seems like the unforgiving type of person and that’s understandable but it will be a bumpy ride if she can’t understand the villains. Pain is considered one of anime’s greatest villains and I agree on that part.

I love thus episode so much, i rank it at the top of anime episodes i've seen...it had it all: desperation, realization that the answer wasn't easy, and the main character giving in to hopelessness, and a sliver of hope at the end...brilliant Ps i watched the end credits in utter shock at the end too Talk about heavy

I hated the animation when I first watched it. Especially when pain was punching the ground and it looked sketched and less animated to move faster but after watching the fight another few times it started growing on me, and after countless watches I freaking love it. I think it’s just so different that it’s jarring.

So since there was no other Pain' body left, and Kyubi-Naruto put an other level of difficulty on the fight, Nagato had to keep up with all that he got into that Tendou corpse. That's why it feels inhuman or so...

FOR CARSON ONLY: From the way Lindsay just seethed with rage from Pain, I think she probably won’t like madara come the war arc, so be sure to watch Ed 33 when possible in the anime , it puts into perspective how madara views the world and how he thinks he’s saving it

I think she means its gross because something terrible is happening to the MC. Naruto is supposed to be in immense pain when he's transforming into the nine tails, skin literally burning off of him, and that as viewers would be upsetting because ofc we don't want to see our beloved MC go through this.

I can enjoy it since I'm not taking the plot as seriously as the first viewing. But it can be jarring to go from losing your favorite characters and discussing the existential crises of man and war, to Looney Tunes.

Ahhhh man this has been so worth it. I've been dying to see Lindsay's reaction to this, and Carson literally just said almost nothing the whole time, letting her just absorb it all. I didn't like the animation at first, but I have come to the same conclusion as Carson as I watch the scenes more and more. It's something you've never seen, and whether you like it or not it's memorable. Also Pain in particular is meant to be "inhuman" like he's basically a corpse puppet so his movements are weird and inhuman.

The animation was never actually the problem with this episode (and to a less extent the previous one): it was the art direction because it clashes with the serious tone of the story. They could've gone with something better and at best it didn't really benefit the fight itself. We know this because Hinata's confession gets reanimated later and it's a huge improvement to the original version.

I absolutely love this episode, probably my favourite in the series. The animation is absolutely stunning and in my opinion this is the best animated sequence in the series, only being contested by the .. ending.. my favourite part is when the skinless ninetails bursts out in combinatiom with the music and pain just standing there, visibly clueless to how he could stop this along with the "meteor shower" it gives off this incredible apocalyptic vibe oh god i fucking love thisss

What people don't realize, n my opinion, is that the rinegan provides Pain a way to deal with physical damage controling how anything with mass approaches him. The larger the radius from his body, the harder to pull off his "pushings". However, as long he's is concious about what is going to hit him, he would be able to use his rinegan to considerably avoid the real impact of things. There are still a lot of odd things about the actual physical rules of being beaten like a nail, but common, it's an anime.

Animation and art style are two different things. What some people dont like on this episode is the art style but the animation is a more objective aspect and it was flawless in this episode. I personally love all of it but I can easily see why some dont

This episode reminds me why Naruto will always be one of the best Shonen of all time.

So back when this episode originally came out, I decided to marathon the entire fight up to this point, so the Mood was set and I was really into the entire fight, from start to this point, and I was crying, cheering and all into it, it gets down to the end and Naruto's walking up to the seal to rip it off, and the dam Phone rang and ruined the mood, was my mother calling about something, and I was just like all that build up for my first time watching it and a Phone chimes in at the climax of it all.

I really like the animation, BUT I feel some of the moments, mostly with pein distract from the feeling of the moment, like the hammering him.into.the ground and the punch to the ground, the former is kore a choreography issue, but the second one, could have been a lil reeled in, but at least its very super fluid and energetic, and I'd rather that than blocky animation like when naruto was taking on the individual peins before

I really think Carson's reasoning is on point regarding the animation. The other episodes where there are good animations like the Hokage battle Royale and Sasuke v Naruto are spectacular because of how smooth the animation is, how much details there are, and overall what makes it great is it becomes almost "realistic" and "life-like". However, with this episode, yes they are more frames making it smooth AF, but the "realistic" and "life-like" factor are not there, for me it's the lack of details that caused that. And that's what I think is awesome with this, it makes this battle so unlike those other good animation episodes. It shows the difference between this and those and how this is just on another level by making it "unrealistic".

@@madarasama7522 Sasuke didn't have good control over the mangekyo Sharingan at this point in the story. He could barely do Amaterasu without spending large amounts of chakara and tiring himself out.

@@itraynell with only sharingan he countered kyûbi at the begining of naruto shippuden and genjutsu is the most basic thing with mangekyo ( he used it vs killer bee)

@@madarasama7522 That's true. Who knows tho I don't think it would've been easy for sasuke to take on Naruto in this state. Naruto at 4,5,6, and 8 tails is a lot to handle. Sasuke at the end of the series would have a much better chance tho.

The animation seems great to me, I think that where it makes noise is because the show is more adapted to a more classic animation, and that makes it end up taking it out of context. It is not the tone of the series. But the animators' attempt is equally valued. On the other hand, if there are things in this fight that are contradictory, for example: When Orochimaru fought with the fox in 4 tails, he could not have contact with his skin, because he automatically burned, and in this fight Pain has contact with him multiple times and nothing happens to him.

I don't think so that Pain or Nagato use Yahiko's water chakra cause Rinnegan can grant to use each type of chakra nature as well as light and dark chakra which is come in future. They did what best they could but me personally it does look not the i imagine.

This episode right here was PEAK SHIPPUDEN. We finally get to see the peak of the power of naruto's rampage(6-8 tails) Full power of Akatsuki Leader which is the Deva path. Konoha destroyed, First meeting with his dad (The most awaited moment at that time). The action, the soundtrack, you can really feel the pain and hate between the two. And IDGAF about the animation. This episode is Masterpiece especially if you are following naruto since day 1.

Yeah, the animation is done that way to, as mentioned, sell you on the idea that what is happening is *massive and mind-boggling*. Like, up until now, the greatest display of raw power was Sasuke's Kirin. And that was a one-off attack. But the Ninetails... it's a force of nature. Flailing in rage and pain, destroying everything, moving around at speeds that people can barely even react to. It's supposed to show you that this is a cataclysmic event. Funny enough, it also shows you why the Hidden Leaf has only 1 tailed beast. Because the one that they do have is also the most destructive and powerful of the bunch.

Its as you said. Yeah the Looney tunes animation on Pain wasnt really that good but allaround for the fighting and really showing the Nine tails powers it was amazing and nessesary. I dont think the animation style before could show such impact, speed and destruction power like they did here. Just for example, all the other fights when Naruto used Kyubis powers like Kcm modes or transformation it wasnt as impactfull as here. (for me) But it should be especially when the powerlvls were way greater than 6 tails.

About animation: it only depends of your perception and imagination. Even if it's look goofy in this moment i had zero intention to laugh cause it perfectly conveying the atmosphere of craziness and seriousness. I think it was the best solution to to convey to the viewer this moment

I can almost guarantee they use the same animators in this episode that they used for a Plea From a Friend in OG Naruto when Naruto fought Sasuke.

I love the animation and admit it threw me at first but realized it really made the fight all the better. Plus upon rewatch and the many times since believe really makes the fight all the better plus seeing it later during a flashback have me the same vibs like “oh shit just got real”
