I actually really like The Conjuring, I think the pacing and slow build up makes it much better than other scary movies that rely on jumpscares. I remember watching it toghether with my cousin, for the first time since we usually like watching scary movies toghether, and he also really liked it.

I feel like Insidious/The Conjuring was the start of a new horror renaissance where the quality of horror cinematography and camera work has heavily improved creating better films. Credit to James Wan, he is a massively talented Director and filmmaker.

The way Jenna’s terrified of the scene at 11:50 and Holden smiling just sips his drink like nothings happening us the best thing ever😂😂😂

James Wan is such a good director. He gave us the first Saw, Insidious, Insidious 2, The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Aquaman, Furious 7, and Malignant. All of them are great to enjoyable in their own rights.

"You wanna skip the Protestants entirely on these. Sure the youth pastor could sing Blessed Be Your Name all day, but the Catholics...they'll take care of it." This had me dying.

Now time to wait for deathly hallows parts 2. Literally so excited for Jens reaction to it.

As a Catholic, everything Holden is saying is dead on 😂😅 I love every second of this movie, so well shot, edited. My favorite horror movie of the 21st century, at least so far

I love horror movies, but I tend not to recommend horror movies to people because my tastes are super weird, I have unironically recommended Surf Ninjas to people in the past. That being said, I really liked the Conjuring, it stumbles a little toward the end when all the tension pays off, but they kept it together, which is more than I can say for most horror movies I've seen, the third act tends to fall apart when the mystery is solved.

Saw that you edited the demon Jump scare from the Exorcist as soon as you mentioned "childhood trauma!" Love the details you throw into every video, shows the love you have for it! Slick move Holden!

I LOVE how Jen has the ability to completely engage herself in the movie she’s watching! That makes it so much more fun for not only Holden (probably) but us as viewers too! She really gets so involved in plot and always questions the logic of the movie, which is great 🤣

I love how the dog is trying to push Jen out of her seat on the couch while she sums up her thoughts at the end. He's like "Ummmm i wanna sit here now!"

I’m one of those weirdly staunch atheists who is still very effected by “religious” and supernatural horror. I don’t believe in God or Satan or demons or angels or any of that jazz, but I’m frequently terrified by movies like The Exorcist and The Conjuring and Hereditary etc. I think I love horror movies so much precisely because it kind of transcends everyone’s personal belief system and just gets down to the very core of the fear of the unknown.

I like when Jen said that movies like this train you for real life situations! I also think it helps you understand the things that are out there.

I would like to see an episode where holden delves into the 2 cases he thought had something going on. Doesn’t have to be centered around it but could be added to another horror reaction for more flavor.

I really love a good well done supernatural horror movies-just solely based on WE DON'T KNOW if this could happen or not. AND THAT'S TERRIFYING. Fear of the unknown is why horror is my favorite genre. There's a saying that if you don't want to be afraid during a horror movie, cover your ears not your eyes. And....there's a reason why that saying exists. Sure imagery can be creepy, but SOUND DESIGN is why a good horror movie scares the hell outta you. I also really like what they do with 3:07am with this movie....whenever you hear something go bump in the night at 3:07am.....SWEET DREAMS.

Love your channel Holden and I love the series your Girlfriend/fiancé watches. I love how your naming all these supernatural lines and I am here sitting with supernatural playing on my TV 😂. Keep up the great work.

The Conjuring really pulled me into the story which hasn’t happened for me in a horror movie since The Exorcist. Holden I really hope you can conquer your fear and watch it because it was and still is such a revolutionary film and really a masterpiece. I really hope you reconsider. What good timing just watched 1 and 2 again recently with my buddy as we have been watching movies together in discord almost every night and then rating them at first I didn’t really like the first one but after watching it again I really enjoyed it but the conjuring 2 is my favorite the characters are great and the story is awesome if you guys plan on watching the conjuring 2 they got actors that look like the real family and they play the real original tapes recorded of the girl at the end of the credits it’s so creepy and really cool! Holden your story is very similar to mine! I once heard my cousin in the living room watching a movie and as a little kid I sneaked in to see what he was seeing and it was the spider walk scene from The Exorcist. From then on I couldn’t watch horror movies until high school when my friends convinced me to see Insidious. It scared the hell out of me, but in the fun way, and from then on I got more and more used to horror movies until it became my favorite genre of film.

I would love to see the whole series on this channel. Conjuring is unique with its franchise, though it does have cheap jumpscares and cliche plots, they do really work on their characters. They actually care about Ed and Lorainne and their relationship, and connecting you to the victims in each movie.

I’m glad they gave us a speaker warning at 14:40 because I had my headphones on. They should do more horror movie reactions. I just like how Holden is so calm and Jen is just trying to get through the movie.

You guys really need to watch and react to the Netflix series ’The Haunting of Hill House’. It is most excellent.

I love how Holden’s answer is the Catholics. I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school K-12, and I’m just like burn the f’in place down. Real talk though: I wonder how many Americans around our age are religious. Maybe 80% of the guys and 20% of the girls I know from back in high school are now atheist/agnostic like me. I’m friends with some devout Christians, but they were raised in the middle of nowhere Indiana and I’m from the city. I always wonder if that changes things.

"The conjuring" is a good movie. I also loved "Annabelle" which freaked me out and "sinister" is also a great movie.

I think; for the rest of October; you guys should watch The Haunting of Hill House, and the Haunting of Bly Manor. Just on your own time. You don't need to do them for a video. But I think you'll really like them if you enjoyed this movie. Ps. If you do watch them, look for all the ghosts in the background. They're just there. They don't necessarily do anything, and they're not moving. You'll see a face in a window, or through the railings in the stairs, or someone standing behind a door Ect.. Really creepy. Really good.

For Jen, coming from a demon, who is WELL aware of what an exorcism can do, it really depends on the religion behind the one performing the exorcism. For Catholics, exorcisms are performed in the name of Jesus Christ. A distinction is made between a formal, or solemn, exorcism, which can only be conducted by a priest during a baptism or with the permission of a bishop, and "prayers of deliverance", which can be said by anyone. Catholic Church law requires EACH diocese to have at least one specially trained priest to perform exorcisms. However, the Vatican has stated that real exorcisms are SO RARE and usually end up being mental illness. Priests will recite prayers such as “Our Father”, “Hail Mary”, “Athanasian Creed”, and other passages/prayers from the bible. The priest will often ask the demon for the name(s), as this is said to have weaken the demon(s). The priest will use religious items such as crucifixes and holy water. While praying over the possessed individual, the priest will sprinkle holy water and at times hold the crucifix at the individuals’ head. This ritual is performed over sessions (2-5 hours each) usually once or twice per week. Exorcisms in the Catholic rituals could take days, weeks, or months to complete. In Christianity, exorcism is the practice of casting out or getting rid of demons. In Christian practice the person performing the exorcism, known as an exorcist, is often a member of the Christian Church, or an individual thought to be graced with special powers or skills. The exorcist may use prayers and religious material, such as set formulas, gestures, symbols, icons, amulets, etc. The exorcist often invokes God, Jesus or several different angels and archangels to intervene with the exorcism. Before every exorcism is done a complete psychological test is done to prove the person isn't simply insane. This is to avoid potential charges on the priest like with the case of Anneliese Michel. In short, TLDR, exorcisms work because it's all faith based. You, the exorcist HAVE TO BELIEVE what you are saying. If you falter, it will fail. It's why you never see agnostic or atheists get possessed. If you believe in God, you have to believe in the Devil as well, and allllll us minions that come along with him. It's not just "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELLS YOU" like in the movies. It can be a grueling process for everyone involved.

I actually live about a mile and a half from the actual Amityville horror house! The more current owners had changed the address/appearance of the house just to keep people from stepping right on their lawn to take photos. Real happy to see you guys dipping into the horror genre!!

This whole franchise is a standout among it’s contemporaries in the shared universe department because it’s the only horror one. Successful one that is. Helps that it has plenty of good ones to balance out the more lackluster entries.

Gadzooks! I thought i was the only one who had a primordial fear of Regan from the exorcist! That first frame cut from the original film sank my heart! I've watched the film multiple times and It's a fear I think will always be there! Hahah Jen saying "we're watching it!" Yeah. We probably will. Nobody’s ever provided evidence for the supernatural, and I remain a skeptic until someone does, but this movie sure makes it fun believing in that stuff despite the Warrens being exposed as frauds. Great reaction guys! Such a fun movie. Part 2 is also good, but 3 really falters.

“Based on a true story” is definitely an over played cliche in the horror genre. However, I will say this is one of the rare cases where the events that took place with this family that lived in Harrisville RI at the old Arnold Estate seem to be pretty legit. And maybe one of the rare times that what happened in real life was actually scarier then what happened in the movie believe it or not. The family that lives there currently have actually opened the house up to anyone that wants to spend a night there if they dare.

My favorite horror movie involves a similar story to Holden and the exorcist. I walked in on my older cousins watching Scream (technically the second one.) It was literally a scene where ghosts face stabs a dude up against a glass divider while a lady is standing there watching. Instantly scarred 😂 however scream is now my absolute favorite, it’s so very 90’s, it’s self aware and even comedic. That’s why I dislike Scary Movie, because they spoof on Scream, which seems extremely unselfaware. It’s for the people who didn’t understand the original was already the movie making fun of horror.

I was raised very religious, devoutly Mormon (and yes, they’re Christian. They just piss off a lot of other Christians lol.) I no longer adhere to that faith but I do NOT mess with the paranormal. It’s not worth the gamble for a little thrill. I’m not sure what I believe anymore but I know that it’s small minded to believe I could possibly know all that is real and out there. But, as Holden said, many past and present incidents of possession can probably be chalked up to certain illnesses or other variables. For instance, the Salam witch trials are thought to have been caused by ergot fungus growing on their grain, which can cause hallucinations similar to LSD. Everybody in town was potentially tripping, and they believed heavily in demonic influence, and went on a literal witch hunt about it. But still. I don’t mess around with this kind of thing. It’s just not smart.

I believe mental illness comes from beings in the spiritual realm! Around 2016 I started hearing and seeing things I couldn’t explain to a rational person and most thought I was crazy because of experiences that I shared! What I’ve learned is that there are unseen and unheard forces or beings that do interfere with our lives unless I’m the only person that this happens to but Ive learned they have been around me since birth though I only started to experience this at 33 for a short time then again at 36 (2016)until now and I know that God has shown me this for a reason and not a negative one!! Because yes I’ve had very bad experiences but the positive ones are so so beautiful that I know it’s not for a negative reason!

When talking about scary movies where the music/sounds help with the scary part really well, you should look into 'The Woman in Black". They did the sound after you noticed the scary bit. So it waits for you to click that there's something wrong and then the sound effects kick in. One of my favourite uses of sound effects in a scary movie! Really adds to the experience!
