Funnily enough, Robert Downey Jr. actually mentioned in an Interview once. That after he had a terrible burger from Burger King, he decided to quit drugs. He decided to sober up and continued to pursue his passion for acting which eventually lead to him securing the role of iron man because Jon Favrou pushed marvel to give RDJ a chance.

Back when Empire strikes back came out people had to wait a full 3 years before seeing Return of the Jedi because Empire ended on a somewhat cliffhanger.
