My grandmother is an avid reader and I am so glad she recommended that I read Manifesto by Bernardine Evaristo.
Talking about racism and the role reading can play in questioning our own beliefs was such a nice experience. Thank you Nini!

I wish I could give this more than 1 like! Listening to your Grandma talking about internalised racism and being challenged, wishing to not be and STILL allowing it....what a delight!

Yes!!! I thought it was so powerful to hear of a perspective that finds itself almost forced to reflect on own prejudices ❤️ I think it is so important to be able to question oneself!

I hope you realise how incredibly special it is to have three generation of intellectual, feminist women together to talk books with. Your grandma is amazing and I hope we get to see more of her!

I love your grandma so much and how vulnerable she is! What did she used to teach?

That is so nice of you to say! She was a primary school teacher - and I bet one of the best (I am of course not biased at all!).

I definitely think the age in which one grows up makes a big difference regarding what types of things we assume, take for granted, etc. This book sounds good!

Having a conversation both bridging our generations and decades that influence us as well as simply talking to someone, whose experiences and opinions I am always interested in was so nice. I hope you enjoy Manifesto 😊

I adore your grandma! It's a shame you never introduced us during the last 20 years 😜 And now I want to read Manifesto.... there's just too many books to read 😭

I loved "Girl Woman Other" and I see now I need to dive into "Manifesto." I would join Feminist Fiction Berlin if it weren't such a long commute from America.

We would really like to have you at Feminist Fiction Berlin :) I really hope you enjoy Manifesto. Perhaps I should pick up more of Bernardine Evaristo's books - have you?

I have not read any other of Evaristo's books. "Blonde Roots" really appeals to me.

On a different note, I loved hearing your grandma speak Irish. I speak little bit of Scottish Gaelic, and I understood most of what she was saying since the two languages sound quite similar.. Among other things, I could count along wiht her. 🙂

I'm currently reading Cometh up as a Flower by Rhoda Brougjton which claims to be an autobiography but reads like a novel and I'm really enjoying it. And it's only 180 pages. More similar to what you read I've had my eye on We Should All Be Feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Women in aviation is an intrest of mine, Fly Girls by Kieth O'Brian is a very good nonfiction about the earliest women in aviation most of whome have been forgotten by history. Daughters of the Night by Aimie K Runyan is a good historical fiction about the Russian night bomber pilots that were women in WWII. And Irl we will be sending the first woman to the moon, the next mission next year will just be orbiting the moon but they will land on a later one. My last fast payed funny 5☆ book was Star Scrapper by J.N Chaney, it's sci‐fi which isn't really your thing but could be excellent for the slump (reccomended by the channel Gwendolyn Ransom) Or my other 5☆ last week was The Weaver and the Witch Queen by Genevieve Gornichec, which is historical fantasy with real Norwegian historical figures and events but with magic, I still like The Witch's Heart a bit more by her but really loved them both.

I think with it now being Shorty September I may check out your short book recommendations... it's the only thing my attention span seems to be able to deal with 😂
