I agree the M15 R4 is one of the best-looking gaming laptops ever, but even better I would go for the M17 R4 instead. I love your setup, it's the best of both worlds, a desktop and a portable laptop that you can take with you! Great video!
hi, i'm thinking about doing that too. I would get an Alienware x15 notebook with an Intel Core i7 11800H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB and 16 GB DDR4. Do you think I can play games with the notebook on an Alienware 34 inch monitor without any problems?
This is the exact video I was looking for. RU-vid has videos covering the laptop or the monitor individually. This is the only video covering the design similarities and how seamlessly a mobile laptop can become a Battlestation And yes that is my dream setup Thank you for making this video
@@mush3241 I do have one myself and I gotta say it's pretty fast. Can actually compete wit a pretty great desktop pc. Nowhere near a insane one tho lol!
honestly I like how this guy layouted his video very well. because I always wanted to know how a gaming laptop + monitor setup would look like and now I know. of course for the future.
I've had mine for a month and I have to say, I have no regrets! I was upgrading from my old AW 14 (2013). It's obviously very very powerful (destroys every game I throw at it lol). But I also love it's style. It feels soo "I'm as sleek as a macbook pro but I'm almost as powerful as the gaming desktop your little brother wants."
Wait... this is my laptop! I bought it on recommendation and a budget for light gaming, work, longevity, and rendering, now the best Tech Reviewer deems it as a "no sacrifices" machine! Absolutely made my day, especially since I was afraid it was sketchy in build since I don't exactly think of "Top Spec Beast" when I think of "DELL," but so far the quality has blown me away. And no, you're not unhealthy, but even if you think so, we go gym + gaming = yolked centric.
As a young 20s workaholic that spends half the year working out of town this is the build I need. I need the mobility of the laptop but a “home base” when I’m finally back home where the monitor comes in. That’s awesome
I went backwards actually. I purchased a 34" Acer Nitro XZ342CK 144hz ultrawidefor my 2017 Dell Inspiron 7596 running a workhorse GTX 1050TI. That's when I realized I couldn't take advantage of the full power of this monitor without a serious system upgrade. So I shopped around, trying to find a laptop with a high-end card that also takes full advantage of 130-140 watts to really create unbelievable levels of performance. I narrowed it down to the M15 R4 with an RTX 3070 for most bang for the buck. So I ordered it today and it arrives on Monday. Wish me luck.
Yeah, after enjoying an ultrawide for nearly a year now there's no way I'm going back to 16:9. All that extra space is super convenient, it's far easier to run than 4K, and it's unbelievably immersive. As a neat perk, a ton of movies just fill up the entire screen since their aspect ratio matches that of the panel. Also, isn't 5120 x 2160 the actual Ultrawide equivalent of 4k?
@@Narblets Still going strong! I’m actually upgrading to a 1440p monitor to take advantage of the vram. It also doesn’t seem to accumulate dust like previous machines did. I went to do my 6 month cleaning and it was good as new on the fans. I really like this machine.
I bought an alienware laptop with an rtx 2070 last year. After I repasted the cpu and gpu I was very happy with the performance I got from the laptop. I travel a lot for work, occasionally for a couple weeks at a time. The portability was important obviously, it powered my 1440p monitor and rift s quite well. During the pandemic I worked at home for months and when the 30 series launched I got a desktop, and managed to get a 3080. The performance difference was so massive its been hard to go back when traveling for work again. I have been looking at a super small ssf case along with an asus xg17 since I travel so much. I'll have to look at this laptop more. If it can perform in the titles I play really well, and with my reverb g2 for Sims, it would be much more convenient for flying.
My setup has an Aorus 15G (RTX 2060, i7 10875H) with an MSi 24" 144hz screen and SteelSeries peripherals (Keyboard, Mouse, Headset, Mouse Mat). It's probably one of the best setups for when at home, and then I just unplug and take with me when i'm on the road. Great versatility.
Love this Vid. My place is small and I just don't have room for a big PC set up so laptop gaming is perfect for me. I've just pre ordered the new Asus strix scar 17 165hx ryzen 9 rtx 3080.
I did this long ago. I have a MSI GE66 Raider 10UG-211 w/ 4TB of storage, AW3418DW monitor, EVGA Z15 keyboard, Razer Death Adder mouse. Runs nice, I just wish I could get more than 120 hz.
I already have a pretty decent desktop and bought the m15 r4 for traveling. Glad I found this video, since I have a spare monitor I'll be setting up another battle station for when friends come over.
Battle station for when friends come over? Your that one friend that everyone wishes they had. My friends give me a freaking monopoly board game to play with when I come over lmao.
That is amazing wow! The graphics on the curved monitor from the laptop is insane. Great review! Im almost getting that same set up except ill be getting the Aurora R13 desktop which like you said will run that monitor to its full potential . I appreciate the review it wass really helpful. :)
M15 is a gorgeous laptop I def agree with you. I wish the X16 had the blend of white/black instead of white/silver. X16 is def gorgeous just not as breathtaking.
I love your videos bro. Last year I thought about getting a P.C. but had no idea what to do I checked out this channel and I have all of my parts now :D. your awesome!
I also just got one, but with a RTX 3080, I figured the extra 300 would future proof the laptop for at least 2 years. Until they release a RTX 4080. I also got the Alienware 38' curved monitor, their RGB mechanical keyboard and mouse combo. My headphones are still my trusty Beyerdynamics Aventho Wireless and Bowers & Wilkins PX7's. Simply amazing audio and microphone quality/clarity.
@@craigomeara8662 No, but I do have a Dell D3100 dock, just haven't found a need for it yet. As all of my peripherals are wireless, including the 3D printer, I just need to connect the monitor and power cables. Using a dock wouldn't make my life any easier, having an additional power brick however, is very useful. On a side note I've been pleasantly surprised to see just how fast games run on this thing I mean even a game like Cyberpunk is running flawlessly with everything on Ultra, DLSS On (Quality), Blur Effects Off at 3840 x 1600 (144hz) G-Sync. Though I mostly use it for VR, DCS flight simulator as I have a Viper flight sim setup.
great information: I have a few questions: 1. is your wireless mouse connected via usb connector? 2. is your keyboard connected via cable? 3. how do you close your laptop cover with the power still on? 4. do you have to change something in the power? 5. how would you connect dual are your aw3821 dw monitors with DP or hdmi ports?? thanks
Still rockin a HP Omen Laptop with a GTX 1070. Sure it will carry me two more years, when I will be finally able to build a nice ITX build with an RTX 4080. 😎
Amazing video, however it would be great a detailed explanation about plugin the monitor to the laptop. What cable are you using to connect the laptop to the monitor? And I think you are the using USB4/Thunderbolt 4 /DP1.4 output? Does it allow G-sync to work?
Hi... Exactly what I was looking for.... Am trying to combine the scar 17 Se with the alienware QD OLED 175HZ monitor.... I love to have best of both worlds.... Often have to be absent from for 24 hours.. And I love the portability.... I was just a bit concerned if this idea was a tad crazy.... But happy to see you having the same idea....
That English woman voice was fantastic! I recently purchased an Alienware M17R4 with a 3070 for under $2000. I use it for 4K video editing, 3D Modeling, and VFX. I absolutely love it! Having desktop level power while sitting on the couch is severely underrated. I have used the headphones for voice over work. It performed just as good as my Shure microphone. And the Alienware gaming mouse makes editing in Premier Pro, After Effects, and Cinema4D such a smooth experience. The greatest thing about the laptop is the cooling features. Even when doing heavy rendering, the temps never go above 70 degrees C. AND THIS BITCH RENDERS QUICK!!!
Lol, This is almost exactly the set up I have. My computer is a Alienware Area 51m R1 laptop-desktop replacement with a desktop I9 9900K cpu and a 1660ti gpu. I use the AW 610M mouse And the AW988 Headphones The only non Alienware things I use is a Lenovo Legion 43 inch monitor. And the Corsair K57 wireless, because I hate wires.
What port do you use to connect the laptop to the monitor? It has a display port? Or hdmi? I have the same setup but on mine it has the Alienware amplifier port that i use which has a display port and USBs This new Alienware laptop removed the alienware amplifier port so how do you connect it without it? Im on the fence about buying one because i also have an Alienware amplifier for my old M15 and now i cant use it
I originally went for the Alienware 38 inch but decided to go for it’s smaller cousin the 27inch Alienware instead. I believe the 38inch is an overkill especially as it needs either a 3070 or a 3080 to drive it. Great video though cheers
The funny parts is I was waiting for someone to do this because I was noticing most of the benchmarks where being done on the laptop only and the gpu seemed to be held back by CPU. Going higher resolution makes it more gpu bound and you see the true performance of rtx 30 series.
@@king_basti since this is a laptop variant, there usually less wattage so lower clock speeds and compared to desktop i7 variant. Sometimes on laptops if the cooling isn’t sufficient the laptop i7 can perform half of a desktop i7
razer makes the best looking gaming laptops tbh...i used to have this exact alienware laptop and it got sooooo hot and insanely loud. switched to the razer 17 pro with vapor chamber cooling and ive never looked back 😬
Nice I just got the asus scar 15 qhd rtx 3080 model. Now gotta decide which monitor. So many choices 34, 35, 38 inch ultrawide, 4k 120 hz 27 inch maybe just get Ultrawide and 4k lol
I have the M17 R5 with Amd Ryzen 6800 and RTX 3070ti. I am wondering that how can i get maximum refresh rate at 144hz ? My Laptop has USB-C DisplayPort ( not Thunderbolt) and HDMI. As i have heard that to connect directly to the GPU on ADM RYZEN chip can only connect with HDMI. Please help me out with it
Well the video, now how about the comparison between the Alienware m15 and the Asus Rog Strix Scar 15 which of the two is in better quality and performance
I have never given a thought about how fit you're/not. Every time I watch a video of you which is quite often, I think you are fun, clever, and entertaining. It's a perfect channel for me since I'm reminded of the things I love; gaming and tech to game in. On the other hand, if I wanted to watch somebody fit WT... would I be doing here, and most importantly why would I even tell you you are not fit. Sorry for the harsh comments even If I'm not the one doing them.
This is been what I’m looking for… been wanting to go in a pc direction for my workstation/gaming setup and this is perfect I’m sold… I’d also like to see how this monitor would look with one of the next gen consoles PS5/XBSX hooked up to it… 🤔
Same here !! Actually looking into this laptop asking myself practically everything that he answered ! 🤣 awesome video ! I maybe a little greedy and I was wondering if I could plug 2 extra monitors to this laptop ? 🤭
Everything I have is Apple but that laptop is the best looking laptop of ever seen in my life!!! I was going to buy the x17 but they only had the keyboard in black so I’m waiting for them to come out with the keyboard in silver like the one you have now. I luv that its 4k.
in general, it was better to take the m17 r4, although they are no longer sold. the m15 has a smothered video card - only 8 gigs, only 140W TGP, so the power supply is at 240W. The M17 has a 16 GB graphics card, 165W power, and a 330W power supply. But you're good to use an external monitor. All laptops on RTX 3000 are faster with an external monitor. You can do the tests yourself with the same resolution on the built-in laptop screen and on the external screen, and you will see the difference.
Love the setup. I'm currently using my old Asus gl502vs with a gtx 1070 max p. Using a lg C9 65 inch 120hz, Logitech 913tkl and razer viper ultimate. I really do prefer laptops to desktops. Waiting for a 17inch rtx 3080 as my next laptop this 4th quarter.
Bro, welcome to the dark side :) I got my M15 R3 a couple of months ago and am enjoying it thoroughly. It runs hot though and requires under-volting. This was my first gaming laptop and I am loving it, especially the keyboard. Laptop coolers only do a limited job due to the inverted motherboard design of the R3. Dont know if they fixed it on the R4.
I am using Nitro 5, Logitech 213G Keyboard, Logan Gaming mouse & after seeing your video planning for this monitor. i play Battlefield V. Do you think going for this monitor will be a good move to create my Gaming Set-up ?
Have found you in the last 24 hours due to me wanting to upgrade my pc and being completely ignorant. Pretty sure I’ve binge watched just about all of your videos😅
Is your laptop heating up when your display is off because I have an x17 r1 brand new and it tends to get stupid hot reaching to like 180 degrees Fahrenheit so I’ve started looking for monitors to hopefully fix that issue it’s fine when scrolling through the web or going on apps but gaming that’s when it goes crazy I use a laptop fan but that seems to be of no use .
I am litteraly going with the same set up as this, except I have a 3080 fully spec’d out Alienware x17 on order. Are you getting good FPS going ultra wide with this monitor? Lot of pixels to push through! Would love to honest feedback!
Nice video mate . Can u give me some advice on buying an ultrawide . Im running an asus m16 2022 with 3070ti. I would like an oled . Just dont know what im capable of pushing
Hi @PC centric, really love ypur videos! I just arrived in the UK and I am currently looking into getting a laptop or just build a PC. I mostly do graphic design work and casual gaming. What can you advice? Say I have £1000, will I get something better specs wise if I go for building a PC or buying a laptop instead?
if you get something like this should you change this display settings of the main laptop lower and let your main external display be the higher resolution instead of letting the laptop display try to run at a high resolution when it doesn't need to.
The R1 series got dirty very easily. Not sure how good that protective coating is on r4 but i imagine white can still get dirty. Is yours still looking like new?
I have the m17 version but other than that has the same specs for the most part. The only problem I'm having is that my controller keeps disconnecting and reconnecting every other minute or so. Do you have this problem if you use a controller or know how to solve this? I would really appreciate any help I can get because I have no clue what to do about it.
