I also like to hold the pig to my ear to listen for any wheezing or crackly noises. Crackly noises can also be a sign of a URI. I've taken my piggies to the vet once I heard it and they got their meds before it got worse.
Cooper sneezes every now and then and coughs. the rescue I got him from (and his foster mom) told me he will does those things and not to worry about it so I dont. i tell him bless you and move on.
@@tracilord4854 I haven't taken him because he does it maybe 1 or 2x a day. hes a little over a year and has always done it. if he starts to do it more than that I most certainly will take him to a vet cuz mommy dont play but right now I think hes okay.
Guinea pig Adventures12 sometimes guinea pigs sneeze around dusty hay or dusty pellets. If it is often then you should go to a vet to see if they have A respiratory condition
I have one boy that sneezes for the last 4 years..Come find out hes allergic to dusty hay.So i have to make sure his hay is shook off good.the chloroplast on the wall gets well decorated in vegetable green
UPDATE: My piggy wasn’t actually sneezing...she was doing little huffs through her nose. I finally heard what a real guinea pig sneeze sounds like! Yeah my senior piggy was sneezing several times one morning (she’s the one who is in her own cage), and I watched her very very closely. She didn’t have any other symptom or sign of URI, so I gave it a day and luckily, she stopped the sneezing. I do have a vet I’ve been using for 3 years. I knew nothing about piggies when I adopted my first 2 from a coworker 3 years ago. I wish I would’ve found yours or Saskia’s channels sooner. But what’s cool is according to your videos, I’ve been doing a lot of things correctly! However, you’ve also taught me so much I didn’t know. Thank you for your educational videos! I share them to my Guinea Pig FB group now. I have 12.3k members, and they’re all finding out about LA Rescue and your channel. The group is called Potatoes With Legs.
my baby piggie Tiara has been sneezing around for a while and almost always when she's buried in hay, they were the normal hay dust sneezes but when they got more frequesnt I got the vet to check her and she said it's allergy that's making her react more than the other piggies to hay dust and was given a cream for her eye, it got better thankfully and I shake the hay a bit while in the bag before serving it and that helped too. I also ordered an air purifier (Skinnypigs1 pro tips) and hope I can dust control better becuz I myself am also allergic to dust and sneeze when I get too rough with hay and dust just fly out 😂🤧 like owner like pet 🤣
We need better veterinarian care in the U.S. It isn’t right that when I get a cold after insurance it’s $20-$40 to get an appt and antibiotics, but when my guinea pig is sick it’s $300 per pig per visit. And to expect pet owners to always have $1000 laying around “just in case” is ridiculous. The problem isn’t the owners, it’s the lack of care for animals in this country. My guineas pigs are more expensive than me.
Scotty:your guinea pig shouldn't be sneezing Me:heart rate goes up to 10000000000000000000 Scotty:they shouldn't sneeze once or twice Me:goes into panic mode
Thank you, this video was informative. I wish I found it earlier. I read online that sneezing was fine. Mine sneezed quite a but but not many sneezing. Found my baby dead a few hours ago.
Good topic. Piggie sneezes are adorable but NOT if their sick!! Look for wetness around the nostrils and listen to their lungs, you should hear a clear "whoosh whoosh" with no rattle or raspiness. If you see any of these symptoms get them to a vet immediately!! Usually by the time you notice it they've already been sick for awhile. Sorry you had a yucky day, sometimes rain days are nice tho. p.s. love that grey hair you're sporting
The first time I heard my guinea pig cough, it scared me....but than I realised she was eating and that she was fine 😂 I usually only hear them cough when they are eating.
Every once in a while or several times a day? The many young guinea pigs especially those from pet stores often have respiratory infections. After of course of antibiotics they're usually just fine
the month of July is SO expensive for husband and I. we have 3 vet trips to make and now 4 since we adopted Cooper. I'm seriously looking into Pet Insurance. I wonder if it covers rodents?. Our animals aren't seniors and dont require medications (thank God). The dog costs a little more because I normally get his anal glands cleaned. Itll be interesting to see how much it costs for Cooper lol
My little just started sneezing tonight. Hopefully no big deal but i do have a vet appointment for him in a few days. I just got him a week ago and he hasn't sneezed until now.
One of my pigs coughs sort of often. It used to scare me so bad because I thought he was choking. He is just a greedy butt and eats too fast/takes too big of bites.
Sneezing is fine however if they’re sneezing a lot then you might want to see if there’s discharge from the eyes or nose and check their breathing but guinea pigs do sneeze I have two boys for years now and they sneeze here in there do they sneeze all the time no but once in a while yes
I don't think mine sneeze more than twice a day. Poor babies, they live in NC. 🤷 It's high in pollen :/ not that I know if it affects them. I half assed my ac. But my little guys show no signs of what you mentioned. They're happily stuffing their little furry faces as of this moment. But that's like the majority of what they do anyway. Aside from sleeping or playing or watching TV w/ me or wever else
When my piggie was sneezing, I took her to the vet and she had an upper respiratory infection. Luckily, it was the day after I purchased her, so I didn’t pay, but I’m glad I questioned her sneezing. She sneezed all the way home when I bought her, so that’s y I took her in.
In their enclosure they rarely sneeze but when I take them out to play they sneeze a lot, could it be that they are allergic to something I wash my floor with?
Thank you for explaining this. We went to a vetinary for this in december. Often if you go during regular opening time prices are indeed cheaper. I appreciated that he took her temperature. She got 2 injectiones and than he explained that he is not a fan of antibiotica for Guinea Pigs. Some antibiotica damages the darmflora (inside of the stomach). He gave me Kokzidiol SD powder as medication to give to her at home. For bringing back her appetite in her Food he gave me a multivitamine powder for Reptiles. Since I thought my vitamine C was getting old. The kokzidiol comes with a scoop, you can put it over chicorei or Romaine Salat and over the pellets. I noticed that it helped her, Kokzidiol is not helpfull for bladder things. When I went to another Vet close to home she told me that there is indeed an antibiotica that is not so nice for the stomach of the Guinea Pigs.
My guinea pig sneezes every once in a while but she gets no crusty eyes or runny nose by the way I have two guinea pigs don’t worry and they have a good size cage to Midwest and I don’t think I should worry about it because I don’t have any crusty eyes are red roses I meant to say runny nose is and they seem like their self’s
Thanks for this! I've noticed a few sneezes from mine so I'm going to pay close attention to find out which one and take them to the vets! I just thought it was normal
I was watching this because my guinea piggy sneezed last night and a couple times today and normally he doesn't so I'm gonna keep an eye on him the next few days and see.
Have you ever had a guinea pig be allergic to Timothy hay? I take the hay out of the cage, give the little guy critical care, hes fine. I put the hay back in, even after washing it off thoughly (I use oxbow brand hay too) and here come the sneezes and the eye boogers!
Awwww casanova you are gorgeous 💕💕 and scotty you look good 😊💕awww man I wish we had rain and not snow hahaha " but my Guinea pigs sneeze when I put the last bit of hay in the 50 pound box I buy haha. First time it happened I freaked right out Haha "
Yeah, one of my guinea pigs were sneezing and they had an upper respiratory infection and unfortunately died. The other one sneezed twice whilst I was holding her and I didn’t want that to happen to my other pig, thinking of taking her to the vet.
Guinea pigs shouldn’t be sneezing!! Me scared because my guinea pig “Sneezed” when I fed it a cucumber. Turns out it’s just coughing: Me going To hold her because I am so relieved: Pumpkins mind: wth is wrong with this girl? My comment is kinda like Andrea’s but I promise I’m not trying to copy ❤️
My pigs were preowned from a family who didn’t care for them well. They have crusty eyes, sneeze multiple times a day, and I am not allowed to take them to a vet because my parents say it’s too expensive. Tell me what to do please!
My guinea pig sneezed once today and I’ve been trying to watch her but there’s not vets around where I live that take guinea pigs so I have to go 3 hours away for a good vet
I had this question too! Thx for answering it. A while ago my little girl piggy sneezed a lot, but didn't have a runny nose or crusty eyes. She hasn't sneezed in a long time though. Through her two years she done it at a very infrequent rate but sometimes she may sneeze. We're thinking it might be a chronic condition. I'll pay very good attention to her though.
Great info . Appreciate you sharing it with us. I can never learn enough about these guys. I just love them!! Do you have tips on choosing the right vet? Thanks.
My piggy has been sneezing a lot, but ive noticed its only when shes in her cage. I just got her a couple days ago, so it could be shes too scared to make a noise outside or something. she eats and drinks good, but just sneezes a lot when she is in her cage. I was thinking it could be from hay or the aspen bedding we have in there, the cage is also right next to my bed which is very dusty underneath. Her cagemate seems completely healthy and doesnt sneeze. I dont see any other symptoms in her, just sneezing. Should i take her to the vet or just cut down a bit on the dusty items in/around her cage?
I do not completely agree with you on this since both of my guinea pigs have sneezed since they were young. It is usually due to the dust in the hay and is dependant on the batch. Both have been cleared with my small animal specialist vet for a clean bill of health since day one. I also use fluff instead of wood chip bedding to keep my little guys as healthy as possible. Mine have never shown any signs of health issues such as a runny nose or crusty eyes but if anybody's pig does I highly suggest you see the vet immediately.
what do I do my guinea pig is sneezing like 1 or 2 times every 2 days and I don’t know how to tell my parents bout it there not gonna want to pay This is bad...
I know this is 3 years later but this sound is very rare in piggies :-) In fact I’ve only heard it I think once or twice with only one guinea pig I’ve had. I do not think that people know for sure what it means since it’s so rare, and I think some guinea pigs never even do it, but I think it might be some kind of calling sound? As I had been holding one guinea pig and the other was in his enclosure. So maybe he was calling for his friend.
My guinea RockStar has been sneezing but he has no other symptoms and still plays and eats could it be he's just allergic to something? I held him up and listened and his breathing is fine so what is making him sneeze??
My guinea pigs are both sneezing and I don’t know what to do my mom says we don’t have enough money to get them to the vet. They sneeze about once a day maybe twice.
My girlfriend and I got two guinea pigs, they seem lively and healthy but they sneeze. I checked over there eyes, no caked on stuff, they play at night, eat often and drink. Is it normal?
Mine are sneezing alot. I took one of them to the vet when she first started sneezing a few months ago and the vet said she was fine. That piggie continues to sneeze and now my other one is sneezing. What should I do?
If your guinea pig has only been sneezing a couple of times a day, than that is normal. However, if your guinea pig is sneezing a lot (or just more than usual) that could be a sign of a URI (upper respiratory infection). This is a very serious condition and guinea pigs can die very quickly from it if not treated early.
My guinea pig usually doesn’t Sneeze, he is only 2 month and this is my first guinea . He sneezed 6 times today . 3 sneezes in the one sneeze thing if that makes sense ...
my guinea pigs sneeze, however the vets have seen him and nothing is wrong, mayb it is a cough that im hearing than a sneeze, idk?? or is there a possibility that mayb its just dust??
I have 2 adult guinea pigs and last week added on another baby. I have kept her in a separate cage since I got her but I am noticing that she sometimes sneezes 3-5+ times every 10-20 minutes. She only seems to do this while she is out with me and not in her cage. The weird thing is she seems very healthy, her eyes are not crusty and when she sneezes there is no navel or eye discharge , her bum also is clean all the time. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what this could be. If this continues I’m definitely taking her to the vet.
I am sorry because my english is not perfect but in CZ i cant find any video about this problem and you talking about sound what guinea pig doing during eating vegetable but i cant understand what is purpose of that sound. Is there any english speaking friend who can write me what is purpose? Time is around 1:40. Many thanks :-)
I just got 2 guinea pigs from petco and they seem pretty young. They have a little eye crust and one sneezed probably 4 times in a few days. Do I absolutely have to go to the vet or is there something I can give on my own and just buy from the store ?
Yes my Guinea pig Truffle keeps sneezing constantly but he looks healthy... so i thought he has allergies? Just contacted the Vet and put a message up on Guinea pig forum for help in what to do 😔
my guinea pig sneezes a lot. only 1 time tho not twice. i don’t want to go to the vet cause it’s expensive. but her nose is dry, her eyes are not crusty. nothing else is wrong with her. what should i do?
hello i have followed you for a while but, do you know where here in chicago i can adopt a guinea pig? thank you and all of your guinea pig are very cute 😊
I have had my New Guinea pigs for about two weeks and when I got them they were already sneezing and occasionally I would hear a cough. Took them to the vet and they just finished their antibiotics. No more coughing and significantly less sneezing but I still hear it more often than I should. I don’t know what to do for my babies. PLEASE SEND ADVICE ♥️
What about if their eyes and nose aren’t runny. They just get really congested like a ragged breathing and then sneeze and then they’re done. I took them to a vet I’m not sure how equipped she was to work with guinea pigs. She seemed to know what she was doing. She gave us some Bactrim but the noise hasn’t stopped. Please help Scotty I don’t know what to do
If they also make heaving sounds it could be a heart condition which produces fluid. My Tito had a heart condition and with proper medicine lived a full life
Scotty's Animals normal as in not soft? They’re poops are the proper color and hard enough in my opinion. The vet said something about this heart problem dogs sometimes get which makes them cough. Both of my pigs do this and from the small information I got from their previous owner they did not. They have been doing this noise for a long time but they have no lack of appetite and no other URI symptoms.
My guinea pig was fine when they had Timothy hay but the pet shop was out so I bought the Meadow hay that felt like it had more moisture to it. Since then one of my guinea pigs seems to either cough or sneeze 3 to four times per day. Could it be the hay change?
OK SCOTTY... WHAT ABOUT WHEN YOUR CHANGING OUT THEIR HAY AND THEY SNEEZE BUT IT'S NEVER MORE THWN ONCE. MINE SNEEZE LIKE WE DUE. NOTHING LIKE A SICK CHILD DOES. ITHINK IT IS ALL THE SHAKE FROM THE HAY! I NEED TO FIND BETTER BRANDS.. AND SUGGESTION ON 6MTHS AND UP AND UNDER. I ONLY HAVEONE AT 6 MTHS.
@@ScottysAnimals Is a stackable (c&c cage type) of cage safe? I due prefure your style and skinnypigs1..side by side. You guys have the perfect tables for them. I have one 2 by 4 stacked on exactly 8 crates that are zip tide together bottom to top. I did't feel that the cubes itself are sturdy enough for a triple decker. I had 2 females who would not bond..They were both bought sepperatly, and were both by themselves. I know skinny pigs nature is a little more bossy but my Peruvian is bossy to. I got her 2 cage mates that were babies. I let them get a bit bigger because I did not want them to try bugging her, Dolly (the Peruvian). They were just winged, and i think a week too early. They are Aby's. It is day one in their new cage which was Dolly's old c&c cage. I sprayed it with a neutralizer pet spray that works neat. Either way, I always rewipe the coroplast with a wet cloth (like baby wipes) and use fleece bedding. I was going to put my boars (just two) They have been bonded for a good time now. They would have a 2 by 4 on top. Then the 3rd level would have Miss.Piggy (skinny pig) up top just around the corners. So, like a one by 6 or 8 depending on if i give the boys a loft. I zip tie every corner of the plastic nobs. The only main concern is getting in it! I have 2 with out the nobs just with zip ties in front to lower it. I knowmost due the whole 4 cubes but i feel safer this way. Anyway, is this safe SCOTTY? I see a bunch on youtube but not in person. I tried to get rescued piggies but NM isn't very popular for them. I'd love to help rehome a bunch of Saskia's.
