Shane, as a fellow lefty player I subscribed to your channel 4 years ago and you are still my touchstone for all things guitar related. I know how much work you put into this channel and it shows in both your attention to detail and your passion for both gear and music. I too have the same mantra...once I get to a certain number of guitars, I have to sell in order to justify keeping a new one. Only keep what's being played. Period. Thanks for all your wisdom and cheers from California!!!
Shane, you’re my Australian Guitar hero. You keep me up to date on the latest gear, while inspiring me to continue to enjoy the gift of music through my own collection of guitars, amps, and pedals. 💎💎💎
Hi HL. Thanks for the kind words mate. I am sure you can shoot far higher than me being any type of guitar hero haha. I appreciate the kind words and thanks for watching.
“I don’t have any acoustics..”I thought that was a very interesting comment. So many players have acoustics that are hardly played - but there is a need to have one to have that base covered. I’m impressed that you are so definite and single minded. I have a lovely Martin that is a beauty but it is not used a lot. I’ve got a lot of money tied up in it which I could free up to purchase another nice electric - I’m just not brave enough to let it go.
I've always had a nice acoustic and even though I'm not much more than a strummer or a barely passable vocalist I got saddled with running open mic sessions about 25 years ago. Now I have a very nice Martin which barely leaves its case because I'm scared it will get damaged or worse! Damned if you do and damned if you don't! 😎😁
Completely agree with the Les Paul Special. Never before have I known immediately that I’m going to buy a guitar the minute I pick it up. Absolutely love mine
Thanks for uploading and showcasing lefty guitars, you were the one who turned me onto a lot of guitars I didn’t know they made lefty. Thanks a lot dude and rock on 🤘.
I have always been a Srat guy, but them Teles are growing on me. Love locking tuners, but the split shaft vintage ones are really just as good, and they won't let a string stab your hand! Love 'em!
It’s a real privilege to be taken on a guided tour through your guitar cupboard, thank you. There’s just one guitar that I’m wondering about, if it will be a long-term ‘keeper’ for you . .
Looks like I missed the mark. I was wondering about the Gretsch Jet. The sound appeals to me, and the guitar seemed to capture your imagination, at least for a while. I’ll hafta refresh my memory about the Kissel!
About a year ago I bought a 1978 Yamaha SA700 Super Axe….I love it so much I sold my 4 SGs my R8 and an old Tele. Stuck aged hardware on it new boutique PAFs and now wouldn’t swap it for the world…. Having two grandsons I couldn’t have one without the other so bought a Tokai ES224…… beautiful guitar but just doesn’t beat the Yammy…. Had a McCarty PRS in my cupboard for 17 years……Just loved looking at it it but hated playing it….. Sold it to buy the Yamaha and a second hand Tweed…… Best thing I did in 40yrs of scratching….
Shane - love your show. I’m yet another lefty, been playing off and on since 1956 (!). I have 15 stringed instruments just now, incl. a ukulele and a “cigar box” slide 3-string. The rest are guitars - one acoustic (an Ibanez), the rest electrics. My oldest is a ’62 Strat, bought it in ’68. The rest too boring to list here, but I love them all. Keep up the good work - I’ll be watching from here in Weimar, Germany.
Great collection Shane. I'm exactly the same way! If I buy I wanna play it. I am not a guitar "collector" but a guitar player. I do not own any acoustics either. You have a thing for Tele's like I have for Strats. My 89' American Strat Standard I will never sell. I had it refretted a few years back with stainless steel wire. The luthier who did it by appointment in Chicago say that the neck has many more miles left and he could tell it was my favorite guitar. I also own two PRS SE's. Phenomenal guitars. So in short my rule is the same" if it won't fit in the cupboard then I need to sell one first. Thanks for sharing! ✌️
Rickenbacker Guitars are one one of my favorites. I like the 1973 360-12 , 330, V69 381 6 and 12 string. I like thin neck guitars. Unfortunately the Neck on the Rickenbacker Guitars are probably too thin for you to play comfortably. I also like the 1970 Gibson SG Standard, 1983 Carvin DC160 (Gibson Les Paul Jr Clone). The Carvin TL60 (Tele Clone) with the Hot single coil pickups is awesome sounding. The only drawback about the Carvin TL60 is that it has a wide neck. I also like the Japanese Fender 62 Sunburst Tele Custom reissue. It was a very good choice that you made having your guitar refretted with Stainless Steel. That is the only way to go. Wish that all the new guitar manufacturers would only use Stainless Steel Frets.
Really enjoy the stories of the guitars you’ve purchased and the collection itself! I missed out on the PRS due to me being impatient with the delivery time when I ordered it. Perhaps one day, however I don’t think I will own more than 6 guitars and I’m happy with the ones I have. Maybe a Televis in my future!🤔🤔🤔 Great video Shane! Thanks for sharing!🎸🎸🎸
Nice collection Shane. After watching this, I'm tempted to leave the strap on the tele when putting it in a hard case. I noticed that you even had the whammy bar on the strat in the case - I always worry (unnecessarily) about damaging either the strat or the case but I should try this out. Love your feed and looking forward to the next video 👍
I get that. I have 6 hangers on the wall and I dont want more guitars than that, except for my acoustics, they are in my bedroom. I do a lot of busking and thats what the acoustics are mainly for.
The tuners on the flying v are angled inwards, which helps keep the break angle relatively straight, kinda like a fender. No moving bridge either. Makes sense that it holds tune... I want one
Sunburst music in Sydney had the best price in Oz on a Am pro II strat……. And it took 23 hours from transaction to my door from Sydney to Ballarat. Now that’s service 👍
Great collection Shane, thanks for sharing. I've always loved your channel, never seing anything useless or dishonest here. Even though your 52 Telecaster is my favorite i want to shoutout to your 50's strat. Not a SSS strat player myself, i always love its sound, had a couple over the years myself but once i get one it just doesn't work for me and i end up selling it and yours just sounds amazing. For whatever reason it also look amazing with the cover on bridge, which i usually hate on any guitar 😀 I realised while watching this and the other collection video of yours is that your guitars, being lefties don't give me G.A.S 😀 you're absolutely right about guitars taking dust, when i started playing again (after some unfortunate events and experiences in my life) i decided that i wouldn't double up and buy only what i like and most importantly what i need. After a couple of buying, selling and swapping guitars i came to conclusion about what i was looking for as guitar shape, style and wood, i decided to keep one humbucker, P90 and Telecaster guitar. I don't jam with anyone and this way i have time to play with each guitar every week, they don't collect dust. Once i was sure of the guitar's feeling and wood but not pickups or even the finish in one case, instead of selling and buying again i had them modified to my liking. I personally hate humbuckers split too, when i was getting my guitar customised they offered it but i declined saying "no thanks, they suck split" 😀 i love vintage tuners but really don't like the vintage frets. My tele is rosewood with vintage frets, i thought of getting it re-fretted but since i prefer maple neck and fretboard i decided to buy a new maple neck with medium-jumbo frets instead. My limit is 4 guitars and i'm very cautious about the 4th one that i'll get, not in a hurry in anyway 😀
I hope your Screen Actors Guild membership is up to date, Shane. With this intro and the WAZA Headphones effort I really think you're up for a Logie soon :-) Thanks - I enjoyed the look through the guitars that remain, or most of them. Another aspect of your LP Special I like is the light-ish streaky fretboard wood.
Cool video Shane. But can we have less of this talk about only keeping the guitars you play and not having any lying gathering dust please? Do you realise how many years I've spent training my missus, that you've now put in jeopardy? This is gonna cost me a chunk of jewellery to get her back onside now. 😁
Always nice to see a lefty collection. I'm not a big Les Paul guy, but I'm jealous of that Tokai. For some reason I'd almost rather have a Love Rock than a Les Paul.
I am in the uk and just opened the google app and your last post in on the home page how cool is that? 👍Great collection Shane and thanks to you I have the 50s original Strat and it’s going nowhere 👍👍your the best
You need a rosewood strat!!! I like the vintage tuners......except the high E... trying to get a 9 in there without it popping out 56 times... I have a Satin lake placid preformer stratocaster. I hate the Yosemite pickups, so I ordered a loaded pickgaurd from Planet tone with the " Gilmore mod" or " grease bucket" circuit. Planet tone adds a two way switch for the mod. Now I love her!!! Love your vids been watching a couple of years now, keep'em coming!!!
Very nice, thanks for tour. My living room is starting to resemble a Guitar Center....instruments are works of art. Funny, I remember we had a tornado warning a while back, and TV said take shelter now. I grabbed my two best guitars and headed for the basement! True story.
The playful part of my head wondered if you grabbed an amp, how many you have, which one you chose . . And then I thought about a tornado driving you - and your family - into the basement. Phew - scary stuff.
I appreciate your love for the Gibson BB pickups. I think a lot of people dislike them, I’ve always thought they were very good when I’ve used them. I still think I prefer the 57 classics as my favorite Gibson pickups. Great vid!
That's a beautiful bunch of instruments, Shane! I'd love to see a video from you about guitars you let go which you still think about today; maybe not full-on regrets, but slightly wistful memories. That Gibson Junior Tribute, for instance.
Fat neck telecasters are great! I have a Gibson Tribute DC/P90 that has a very full neck so I can appreciate that substantial chunkiness🤘🏼🤙🏼 P.S. That TV Yellow Gibby and white Strat are righteous! Beautiful collection.
Ah man, what a collection! I actually just had the exact opposite scenario with my Tokai Gibson copies. I had a Les Paul I had to get rid of but kept my 335! Lovely guitars, mate.
I'll take them all. LOL. But right-handed. Great collection. I love hearing musicians talk about their favorite instruments and why. It's not just a job or hobby, it's a love for what we do.
Really nice guitar collection. I'm sitting here thinking. If I kept evey guitar that I've had. Over the last 20 years. I'd have around 30 to 40. Some I regret getting rid of. But , I still haven't found....THE ONE! Not sure if I ever will..
I have a 52 reissue telecaster......the pickups kick ass..... I built another and put Joe Bardens in it ....great pickups but would never think of changing the original pick-ups in my 52 reissue
Shane you should try to get your hands on an early Fender Baja tele 50’s version in Butterscotch. They had Custom shop pickups as stock and a big fat neck. I love mine.
I'd seen one of those in my local guitar shop a few years back. Played and sounded great but thought I'd sleep on it (for a week). Went back and it was GONE! Oh well, wasn't to be.
I had one of those Baja butterscotch Classic Player teles with "soft V" shape neck.....what a great guitar!!! That guitar was a very hot item at the time, I wish I never sold mine! And those pickups.....Broadcaster and Twisted Tele? I think? All I know is they said they were CS pickups, and they sounded amazing.
What a great collection of Guitars Shane I’m also a fan of the bigger 50s style necks but I just picked up an Ibanez RG 550 genesis from Japan that has really blown me away Great video as always.
As a lefty myself, i loved this video. It is kind of strange that many guitars that is not very expensive is better than the expensive ones. I have tried many fender custom shop strats, but none of them sounds or feels better than my MIJ strat and a USA strat from 1991. But that being said, the best guitar i ever tried was a fender custom shop nocaster. But didn’t have the money to buy it, and when i did it was sold😢 but I can’t be to sad about what I don’t have when i have a collection i am pretty happy with😎
That's an awesome collection. I've always been trying to keep my collection slim. I feel the more guitars one has, the less they're played, and the less creative you're forced to be with them. I peaked at about 11 guitars now I'm down to 6. I often find I am uncertain about selling a guitar, but once it has sold, I don't really miss it. I sometimes see people post their guitar collections on reddit and they have like six SG's, seven LPs, 4 flying V's. Seems unnecessary to me and I feel I'd just have guilt all the time for not playing every one of them all the time haha.
Bought the same Strat, love the vintage tuners, no more cloth getting snagged on strings end when wiping down. The frets aren't my cup of tea though, too used to jumbo frets.
Very nice collection Shane. I'd be for hanging on to them as well. They sound and look killer. Continue to enjoy and playing the heck out of each one. Later brother!
@intheblues I know what ye mean about white guitars. I used to buy almost exclusively black, red or burst guitars. But after being forced to get a "white" guitar (actually tis aged to a cream colour) that turned out to be great, I dont turn nose away from white guitars. Altho to date all of the "white" guitars I have has turned color because 4 of them are 80s guitars that has shaded to between light parchment to rich cream. The 5th white guitar is 2003, and even it shows faint evidences of changing tint too. I'm tempted to change my 2003's OE white pearl pickguard to a white/black/white version after seeing your white Strat.
It's funny how the Stratocaster calls to you huh? I also was not a strat guy for years. I was a Gibson guy and then Ibanez guy but when you play a good strat, wham! "Now I know why all those greats play them!" Now I'm nearly exclusively a Strat guy.
I’m in Melbourne, not too far from Shane, but have been to 🇨🇦 a couple of times, and been greeted with extraordinary kindness and love in that beautiful country on both occasions. And I’m now emulating living through the Hip’s album releases - I’m up to Fully Completely. Good to ‘meet’ you on the ITB channel!
G’day Steve, Dr Ric here. My wife and I and our 3 kids lived in Palmerston Square, The Annex for 6 months back in 2007. We all still ❤️ 🇨🇦 and have been back to T.O. several times over the years. I know T.O. was hammered by SARS back in 2003…really hoping that you’re getting there in the battle against Covid19. Big ❤️ from 🇦🇺 mate!
@@rselp Greetings from Toronto, Dr. Ric! Thank you for your reply. So glad u love Toronto and Canada, eh! Covid has definitely been a challenge, but we are gradually making headway. Hope u guys are doing alright with it too. Wonderful talking to u too! Really enjoy seeing you and Shane, one of my fave channels. Take care Dr. Ric
@@cass2771 thank you Cass! Good to meet u as well. Since we r talking Canada, Rush was one of my fave bands thru the years. Alex Lifeson one of my top fave guitar players. Are u familiar with them at all?
I've got 6 electrics, 2 acoustics, and 2 bass. I have sentimental attachment so it's hard to sell any. My p90 guitar is a PRS 245 SE -- I think a Gibson junior might be better, but other than that I'm sticking 🌴
My PRS SE played great from the store. But I ended up having to increase the string height because it was just too damn low! I've got larger fingers so found when I bend, my fingers would go over the strings instead of under them. But fantastic guitars and so easy to play. I also picked up a second hand Chinese Tokai SG the other day. Plays great too but not a fan of the pickups. Reminds me a bit of the older Epiphone pickups that are a bit muddy sounding and not as crisp.
