Incredible playing as always. But what an unbelievable use of gear. Thank you for sharing. And there I was thinking that I had hit the next level with the OC-5 and the looper… 🤣🤣🤣
So cool, and thanks for sharing that Alex. Makes me think about if I can emulate a bit of that with my GT1000, RC5, and SY200. Funny, I was just thinking about selling off a buch of pedals to simplify things. You just ruined my plan! 🤣
Ah….memories…..the gr55 was what brought me to you in the first place. I was and I am still flabbergasted by this 1-man-band approach of yours (well ……. A three-man band approach nowadays 😊)
Hi Alex, I'm at Semi-Pro player and just love what you do. I absolutely love what you did on Valerie Stepnovs' On Storks Wings. Can you outline your solo on that track, in some of the fine points of it.
Hello mate, thanks so much... ah the old Storks wings eh? 😅 I recorded that a few years ago now, during lock down I believe.. I'm glad it finally got out there... I'd have to go back and look at that one before trying to explain it. Let me have a think on that... 🤔I'm so pleased you enjoyed it though mate. 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic I must have listened to the solo about 200 times. I think it's perfect. I love the little things like how you doubled the bass run in the middle melodic line. Just Brilliant!
Great video I think a few more RC 600’s will be sold now😁 Fantastic playing again👏 Are guitar tones from the GR 55 effects any favourite amps simulations? Purchased a ticket for Friday’s online gig👍
Thank you mate. Haha yes maybe... Indeed all of the guitar sounds are from the GR-55. Really pleased you're attending the gig today this is the very set I use. Cheers mate I hope you'll enjoy it 👍🙏🎸
Wonderful playing as always Alex! If i may ask, do you have some tips for us on how not to get lost while shredding during an improvised solo? I don't seem to be able to focus on so many things when i'm improvising :s thank you for your attention!
Thank you mate. Hmm interesting question, when I have a little more free time I'm hoping to do some more engaging videos on here. That could be a topic I attempt to cover. Thx for the suggestion 👍🙏🎸
Any videos on how you use or setup your gr would be. Not much good info on that unit on the net. Demos some lessons not too much. Been wanting to get one for awhile. Good to see older gear is still relevant.
Ok mate, nice one. Yes I think this bit of kit is very relevant. Especially for people wanting to get started to try out guitar modelling and alt tunings etc... It's very powerful 👍🙏🎸
you know,, having all this new style tech is great ... but .. I think at the end of the day ...when the dust settles ... everyone comes back to ..just having a great guitar sound,, for the tune that's being played ..so,, a great guitar and a great amp .. Then ... above all that ...some great phrasing, expressive and creative .. but not crazy over the top.. That's really what I like about your playing ..phrasing and expression.. it pulls the listener along . I wouldn't go to a gig and say " he's got a GR|S --55/297 with patch number 998 h25F " I just think .... THAT player has s a great sound, and uses it so well //// and that's more than enough
Oh I agree mate, and I love that too, it's just an interesting way to experiment with a different set up really. And I've really enjoyed using this on these type of gigs over the last year or so. Of course when playing with a Funk/Fusion band I'm straight into an amp with a few pedals. Or sometimes the 100w head and massive pedal board... 😅 Just depends on the gig. What's your rig of choice mate? 👍🙏🎸
@Alex Hutchings Oh yeah ... don't get me wrong here,, it's great to know what's around and how fantastic it can be ..... like messing with a SythAxe or Axe FX II... you could spend hours and hours with it, and actually not play anything .... I have a Fender Stage 185 , Squire Strat ( upgraded Pickups) .. Korg Multi effects .. for recording, just the multi-effects straight in . You know what's weird as well ... if I picked up your gear ,,, right now,, no changes, just after you played it ... and you picked up mine ... I would sound the same ,,, exactly like me ... and you would still sound like you . ! Doesn't that seem to mean that the real sound comes from the player? not the gear. and yet, physically ,, were the same ... 8 fingers 2 thumbs So the difference must really be ... what's in your head ... how you think ?, maybe ... strange isn't it ? sorry if that went a bit deep there .....
@@patereekoelectrik842 Oh yeah totally it is in the hands/head/heart of the individual... All the years of listening learning will ultimately be what comes out... 👍🙏🎸
I cannot put it into words on how amazed I am by your abilities as a musician and guitarist. I have probably said them all before but one more time, not the last Im sure, you are just super amazing Mr.H and I just love everything you do. WOW.. 🎸🎵🎸🎶🎸🎵🎸🎶🎸
Amazing playing and awesome utilization of the equipment! Have you ever changed patches by mistake? Because these buttons are scary close together, between the pickup selector and knobs.
Thank you mate. I'm releasing a whole set this Friday with me using this exact set up. Check it out here. www.alexhutchingsonline.com/events Cheers for now and all the best 👍🙏🎸
Hi Alex, are you using ampless rigs these days? As in, just plugging into the house sound with what you've got there? I'm very naive about the whole process, but was curious about switching someday. Still stuck in tube world, but I'm not a luddite! Great playing as always :)
Hello mate, yeah that's cool. I would say I have several set ups/Rigs and this is just one of them. This is my choice for Jazz Trio gigs. I can go direct to P.A or my small Acoustic amp and get a really controlled sound/Volume. For louder funk/Fusion gigs I'm still pedals into an amp guy also. And for the big shows the Tube Amp and larger board.... Cheers for now mate 👍🙏🎸
What's phenomenal about you is not just your fantastic talent on the guitar, but your ability to constantly stay on top of all the new tech that comes out. The crazy thing is that you are able to do all this and stay so humble and grounded. Thank you for all your music and demos 🙏
GP100 or GR55 Alex? Not done V Guitar since my old VG88 years ago. Looking for alt tunings, bit of synth effects when I play acoustic gigs to fill out etc. Any help appreciated. GP10 doesn't have midi in to change patches etc by the looks of it? Thanks
Amazing playing as usual. I'm thinking of getting a GR55 and if possible a 2nd hand GC1 guitar like your playing on this video. I currently use a GT100 but like the idea of the GR55 for guitar as well as synth sounds (simple one box setup). Any thoughts? Thanks.
These 3 foot pedals have been the standard for the improvised guitarists. I have a vintage VG-88 vs2 and a GR-33 combo running a Godin Grand Concert Nylon and, (are you sitting down?), an OLP Flamed Maple (pre EV) electric guitar! No looper yet but still enjoy the classic sounds and creativity from these great devices!
watched all your videos about those "old" Roland guitar synths you did demos for back in the days. awesome. may I ask you, cause I can't find the answer anywhere. is it possible to get those vg-8 sounds now again popular through the artist mk.gee with a gr-55? or is it a complete different type of modeling? best and thx in advance.
Hi Alex, I have same setup gc-1 plus a gr55. I ve just invested in a victory vc35 as a working amp. Do you have any advice as to order of connections. I have a send return on the vc35 or should I front end the gr55? BTW great playing ! Awesome!
I agree with Everyone. You have a very calming spirit , must be the love for music and humility. Thank You once again . Trading my RC500 IN for that 6er. Love your Jazz definetly tasty ! Would you stop i'm drooling ! 😁👏
Hello Alex, I really like that rolled off Jazz sound, sounds like it is moving air on headphones, like the Chromatic stuff too. I know you are busy, having the 6th and 5th strings 8vb is very effective, I have done the same with my SY1000 with various Guitar models, with a Synth Pad, using the hold function to practice scales and arps, love it. I have the RC10R Looper, I tried looping "Iris" by Wayne Shorter , with Sync off, only way to record 16, 32 bars, but it never loops the correct number of bars, adds on more beats, I do not know why? If you are using Drum parts with the RC600, would it do 16 or 32 bars, or would you use several loops......not ideal really. Do you know the max time you can do for one loop? Love the SY1000 Alex, total powerhouse, awesome with the firmware update too! Can I ask do you think the GR55 is still worth getting, it is from around 2010, do you think Roland will do a new version with that huge sound list? I have really enjoyed Turning my ES335 copy into two Strat's panned in stereo, front pick up, makes me play in a totally different way, I never use DS, but I really like the sound you use there Alex and the Delay, what is the delay time there, total guess, 600ms? Enjoy yours gigs, sorry for all the questions, cheers, Daniel Nutley. I would buy a Fender GC1, but as you know they do not make them anymore.....dam! 👍🎸😁
Hey mate thanks for your detailed comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The issue with the drum beat is quite difficult to solve without being in the room with you as it were but you should be able to do almost any amount of measures as you like. Again it's difficult to know without being there , if you're near a big store that has a Roland rep I'm sure they could help you out if you took it in... If I Iived near you I'd say bring it over... The Gr-55 is a great machine and I love having mine, if you can get a good deal on one, I don't think it would do any harm...Especially as you're familiar with the Roland stuff. The rolled off Jazz tone is actually a Modelled Big Box jazz Guitar. Yeah shame about the GC-1's but perhaps you could find one second hand somewhere. All the very best mate. 👍🙏🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic Cheers Alex, yep, makes sense, will have a closer look at the looper I have, RC10R. Looks like to me if you use a pattern, which is 4 bars it records 4 bars and then puts the next 4 over those etc, rather than record the whole form in real time, thought switching sync off would solve this and of course being spot on with when you stop it, does not seem to work...will find more vid's on YT. Yep, the Jazz sound is like an Archtop, very convincing.....all the best👍🎸
@@AlexHutchingsMusic The clean archtop sound is fantastic and with the strings it really puts it all together with the bass. Then the overdriven lead. All pure pleasure! Thanks once again for showing the rig and the great playing!
Amazing as always! You're my favourite guitarist when it comes to product demo, even though this is not really a demo haha. Btw is that P4 tuning? How is it working so far for you? I've been using P4 for a few months and still learning to this day.
Thanks mate, yeah it's not quite a product demo because it's actually how I use this stuff but ironically the idea came from doing product demo's... 😂 Full circle eh? Anyway thanks mate glad you enjoyed it. 👍🙏🎸
Love that GC-1 and all gear! But... without a master Guitarist as Alex... no gear can sound that way! Is all in the hands! A pleasure for my ears. Alex the Great!
This cat's been my Roland/BOSS guitar/synth guy since forever. If guitar players knew what was good for them, they'd all have a GK-3 on their guitar and I'd have something like a GK-10, or whatever. Roland seems to have abandoned that pup and the GI-20. Sadly. Anyway... It always blows people's minds when I switch that midi pup on, and my hardware and software synths fire up. Continued Success! Keep on rockin'!
Hey Alex, inspiring as always! I am picking my first guitar synth and was wondering if you prefer the GR55 to the SY1000 for your guitar synth stuff? and why? thanks :)
It's pretty versatile for sure, although it's also quite old so if it's just for guitar tone I think there will be much better stuff out there these days. Cheers for now 👍🙏🎸
