Yes sis! You’re waking up! I’ve been preaching against team natural since it started 12 years now! They were not professionals they told you professionals and professional product were bad while making up stuff. Now you see, start learning your body from an internal level! Welcome back sis!!!
@@JenFindsGems I hope you find what really works for your hair. Don’t give up on natural hair. If done right it can also really be a Good journey. Best of luck 😊
Listening to your video, this resonates with me. I too went and did extensive bloodwork because I thought something was wrong internally because I never had my hair shedding or having my scalp irritated. I found out had damage last April 2023 had I known what knew now I would have big chopped all the hair. I am still dealing with damage. I wish you well on your journey. I too have taken my haircare in my own hands . 💡to this day I look back at my pictures from before doing the detox and beat myself up about it.
I did the same for so long but we’ll lose sight of the road ahead if we keep looking in the rear view mirror. You’ve got this, and now you have a friend on this journey with you! I may cut off more just to get the split ends and dead ends out of the picture but as long as we focus on healthy hair care practices from here, we’ll be alright. 🫶🏾🫶🏾
Wow you really sound like my inner voice at times. I followed a hair care method as well and in the end I was left with severely damaged hair. I have big chopped several times at this point. My hair is now on the mends though. I have been investing more into stretched styles. I ditched all of Innersense products and any other products that were recommended while following the method. I’m happy to hear you’re figuring out what is working out for you and your daughters.
Hey Boo!! We really have a lot in common! I just watched your video the other day, where the stylist was cutting your hair and sharing gems about natural hair health. You are contributing SO MUCH to this conversation and we truly value you and your transparency! I’m so happy to hear that your hair is on the mends now, and thank goodness when we know better we do better. Stretched styles seem to be where it’s at for length retention, I’m excited to go old school and rock some roller sets too! 😂
@@JenFindsGems but why did I just get super excited about roller sets and flexi rods. I agree we have a lot in common. I was kicking myself as well for following something so blindly. But we will continue to do better. Thanks for sharing your journey. P.S. I have to rebuild my relationship with heat as well. There was so much fear and shamed in regard to heat so I gave it up a while ago. Now that I know heat isn’t the devil, I can learn to use it to my advantage.
@@SimplyTamz not me sitting here with rollers in while I type 🤣🤣. I straightened my daughter’s hair and I’ve been using flexirods to maintain her curls at night. When I tell you I can’t wait to start using them on my hair too… lol. I feel like I have so much to unlearn about how to care for my hair because the past 10 years I’ve viewed everything as the devil 🤣🤣
I have one thing to say: blue magic! And if you want long hair, here’s the reality: you’re either going to be a straight natural or a tucked up under wraps, plaits, braids and wigs natural. Consider doing your silk press once a month or every other month, same for the blow out and Atleast 1 week with aloe Vera juice, cream leave in and blue magic. I’m no guru, but I know the struggle and when I stopped using blue magic, I started getting split ends, and when I did my own silk press the other day, I could finally enjoy the length I’d been walking around in struggle plaits to retain. Wash and gos are the enemy of length retention! PS. Keeping seeking and destroying the split ends, I watch Jenae Mick too ☺️
If I could like this comment a million times I would! I never considered having it one way or the other but I truly understand that’s how it has to be… constantly being in a “protective” mindset or wearing stretched styles and trying to retain length that way. My goodness it’s so exhausting sometimes but I’m praying that this journey shows me that I’ve made the right decision. So happy that we have you as a positive example of how possible it can be! 🫶🏾🫶🏾
Yes that has been my experience. Don’t use blue magic tho bc I have a condition that makes my scalp intolerant of grease or anything grease-like/grease adjacent. But I cannot enjoy my length or hair really at all. To wear it is to damage it. Even if manipulation is low, my shaft does not take in sunlight or humidity well (I live in the southeast US). And I don’t wear it in its natural state bc I just don’t like it. As a matter of my own original thoughts, feelings, and preferences - respectfully, no one can police a thing on me nor within me.
You are not alone in this journey , seems there are many of us here in the same boat from following what seems to be the same method . Wishing all of us a healthy hair journey . I still have some damage but have cut most of it out . I know it will be awhile before I have a full completely healthy head of hair. I too thought about shaving my head but I know that with care and patience my hair will improve
Indeed it will, and I’m glad to have more friends to walk along with me on this journey. Let’s hold each other accountable and get this healthy hair back!!
Hey Luv, a friend just sent me your video and I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with my hair journey that I’ve been documenting here on RU-vid as well as IG but I too experienced severe damage. I don’t want to assume but it sounds like we might have been following the same cutting and hair care practices. 😅 Either way please know you are loved and supported. AND…..I agree wholeheartedly about wearing stretched styles over wash and goes now. I personally have already started to no longer wear wash and goes. Anyway I’m excited for you because you are well on your way to having the hair of your dreams Sis! 😍🤗 Be blessed ~Shelly 💖
I watched your videos! Your split ends up the shaft made by blood run cold. So cool of your to come over and offer support and reassurance ☺️ all the best with your new journey as well.
Hi Shelly! I’m so glad that you’re here!! I saw your videos on the Anthony Dickey curl method and seeing your curls POP like that made me so happy for you. Your hair is gorgeous!! I didn’t realize that you suffered from extreme damage too (I’m definitely seeing a trend here 😅) hopefully you’re on the other side of recovery? Thank goodness I’m not alone, I was afraid that this journey would feel isolating and embarrassing but having the support of CURLfriends like you helps me stay encouraged. Thank you for all that you do in sharing your journey and experiences, you’re inspiring so many people! 🥹
@@krystalccameron7689 Aww thank you Sis! 🥰 We all need to encourage and uplift each other through this because it’s very difficult to navigate through. 💖🙏🏽
I appreciate your honesty. It is going to help a lot of women. I would say if you continue with regular heat use just be sure to keep up with the deep conditioning. I have been using heat every wash day for over a year now with good results and no change in curl pattern. Best of luck on your new journey. ❤
I’m about to go on the journey of being a “straightened” natural and would like yo retain my curl pattern as well. How much heat do you apply meaning flat iron and blow drying etc, and what is your overall routine?
Thank you so much!! This is actually so awesome to hear because I thought that using heat more frequently was guaranteed to loosen my curls a bit. Praying I get to keep them in tact because I really love my natural curls!
Your video popped up first THANK YOU, saddly I just started transitioning to my natural texture. I was using a texturizer and no heat deep moisturizd my hair weekly, my hair felt healthy and was down my back!. I decided to stop and listen to all these youtube "experts" and follow "rules". I was chasing product, technique and my hair i feel is damaged to the point i had get inches cut off. I felt ignorant, almost crazy about what was on my own head! Like what was working before that's not working now? I am done! I am debating on texturizing, BUT I am going back to the routine that was working for MY hair. Thank you for sharing this very honest video ❤
I'm soooo glad I never got entangled with trends and rules and 'communities'. I use and do what I know works for MY head of hair. No1 has my head of hair BUT me. No1 can tell me how MY hair behaves. Glad I've always known that. (*Take my advice yall: quit following trends and use your own sense.* )😊
The problem we have is taking people's "influence" as 'rules'. I am guilty of it too but I wasn't before which is weird to me. I too am disappointed that I started following people's rules again. My hair does NOT like sulfate shampoos & had been thriving with clay + acv washes and natural shampoos I made myself. Then I started watching more hair videos again and someone said "you cant use clays indefinitely eventually you'll have to clarify your hair". I decided ok I'm gonna buy a clarifying shampoo. Used it twice and now I'm experiencing noticeable breakage in the middle of my hair (it's not noticeable but I know the area is thinner & shorter than it was before) I am done listening to what you 'cant' do from natural hair youtubers. Everyone's head of hair is literally unique and different. My hair is so sensitive to sulfates.
I have a similar issue with shampoos even the so called “sulfate free but super sudsy” ones. I’m finding that my hair actually appreciates “cleansing conditioner” or “cleansing creams”. Regular shampoo effects my hair like a clarifying shampoo would. If you’ve haven’t been using heavy products you may not have needed to clarify especially if you were using clays. BUT it’s a possibility that the clarifying shampoo just uncovered damage that had been previously done but was undetectable.
You are absolutely right, and I’m disappointed that I allowed someone’s advice trump my intuition. I’m so happy that you were intuitive enough to know what works best for your hair and went back to that when you sensed something was wrong. How is your hair thriving now?
Thanks for sharing your story. This is the first time I have seen one of your videos but this came up as a recommendation as I have been following people walking away from this particular hair practice.
*Anything that doesn't include ease for me at this age of mine, I don't do.* *I consider my Climate/Dew Point when picking products and doing my hair (I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city)* I dont follow any rule in-toto. I do things when it is NEEDED! 1. Hot Oil treatment when its needed 2. Clarify when it is needed 3. Condition (this is just comditioning with anything with water, cationic surfactant, fatty alcohol, emmolient, hydrolyzed protein and humectant) 4. Leave-In (which is a must) and 5. Styler (Gel: with plasticizers, Grease or my DIY Shea butter which I missed with grease, oils/essential oils) I buy and do what is good for my hair alone. I do wash n go but tweaked Anthony Dickeys Method I wear twists and braids but i make sure i remove it when my hair decides it has had enough. So,
Hopefully your video helps more people before the damage in their hair gets irreversible. My hair also took a hit but with a subsequent bc and going back to old school methods - I'm also on the road to recovery. Excited to see your journey too - great video!
Thank you Love!! I really hope that someone can learn from my mistakes and trust their own intuition when taking care of their hair. So happy to hear that you’re on a healthy hair journey too, keep me posted on how you’re doing too!!
Create a routine that brings you joy. In the end it wiIl have the steps it has and will be uniquely yours. I absolutely love DCs so when people try to be " you know, it's this, it's that" I 🏃🏿♀️😅 Good luck on your new journey. Check your iron also, that can cause shedding.
It's ok❤, dont be so hard on yourself. Good thing is NOW you're on the right track and know to listen to your own gut. Your hair will flourish! Give it a lil time itll happen before u know it. PeacenLove sis
I love your honesty! I went back to the basic including DC's weekly! Steaming is next. I had always has issues with my crown and now it's broken in my middle of my head...but it may have been because I finished chemo 6mos ago and it may be one of those lingering side effects (sigh).... But, your trim and flat iron looks great! For me less is definitely BEST going forward. Hope the best on your 'new found' journey! Intake is important also. (water and vitamins and heathier eating choices) 💓💓
Yees I’ll be steaming or deep conditioning every week right along with you! Thank you so much for watching and blessing me with your kind words too. Congratulations on completing chemo. You’re a warrior and I pray that you are feeling stronger than ever! 💕💕
The no sulfate no silicones rule is from the CGM aka the curly girl method. We don't have curly hair. We have coily hair. I tried the cg method very briefly ages ago. I'm not one for blindly following. I'll give it a try if it intrugues me but if it's not doing anything for me why would I keep doing it? There are people that will try to convince you to stick to a method be it CGM or the new CGM, the BGC method by saying that you have to do it for a year or you have to do it for 10 years lmao in order to see progress. Tune them out. Good for you for giving up hair rules though and just doing what is best for your hair.
Look up CynDoll, she is a cosmetologist who is anti-natural community hair rules. Not anti-natural but the trends and fads that natural content creators come up with. She gives you the facts. Watch and do your research before trying anything anyone says.
Yes! We are definitely doing to much to are hair! Gel’s make your hair hard and hard hair will break and split so I am done with doing all these wash and go, it’s more like wash and break!!! And it’s not just the curly cut either.
I would look for a really good professional also to help you with your technique. Winter is cool for roller sets. Summer is good for a wash & go. But technique is key. Your scalp also may not have agreed with some of the products as well. So much to factor in.
This is a really good point! It's cooler here in FL now but I know that I won't be as eager to straighten my hair during hurricane and rainy season LOL. I agree, I'll keep doing my wash and go's when the weather doesn't permit and focus on using products that work best for MY hair and scalp! Thank you so much!
I know that my vitamin D levels are crazy low, even though I take a supplement everyday. Maybe I'll look into getting a prescription for vitamin D again. Thank you for the reminder!
There are No such thing as rules for natural hair. There are suggestions, you as a grown up and individual have to find outvand know your hair better than anyone. Yall need to stop blaming somebody else because what worked for them didnt work for you. We cant even if some of you didnt go overboard ex using rice water weekly, sleeping with dc in your hair. Silly things like that that anyone with common sense knows is bad.
@@fletcher373 Interesting take. I didn’t blame anyone and as I mentioned in the video, I was taking advice from professionals in the industry. I also took accountability for blindly doing so, not sure if you heard that part? Thanks for watching and commenting and I hope your days gets better. 💕
