A few things I forgot to mention: 1. I use headphones with a small amplifier (two jacks, in case someone comes over to listen). 2. I do have a pair of studio monitors, but they are currently in storage. 3. I used a commercially available console because I’m not a DIY person 😂. I also had the Johannus rep mute one of the onboard organ samples so I could route audio to the internal speakers and use the stops without native sounds coming through. 4. If for any reason my Hauptwerk system fails, I can still practice using the native Johannus Studio 370 samples (except the baroque disposition).
Fascinating and really informative! Thank you so much for sharing the 'secrets behind the scenes'. One thing is for certain, James: you provide the 'magic' that makes all this technology work and come together to give all of us such wonderful visual and aural treats. I don't know which to be most impressed by - you tech wizardry or your playing . . . so I'll have to settle for both!
Hi James, good to hear that Hauptwerk will run fine on a Mac Mini. That’s what I’m getting soon to replace an 8-year-old iMac. I’m going for 64gb ram, and a 1tb ssd. For the processor, I’m getting a 6 core I7.
You’re welcome. Mine has 32gb and I can sufficiently load the samples I regularly use. It is also the 6 core i5 version and handles everything without issue.
About the combinations-pistons that don't work, have you tried to connecting the Organ-Stops with the Hauptwerk-Stops (right-click, auto-detect, etc...)??? - In this way, the pistons on the organ should be activate both the Organ-Stops and the Hauptwerk-Stops.
Thank you James. I discovered you researching the studio 170 vs the 370 vs other organs and found your videos a tremendous help... But being a techie I have been drawn to hauptwerks and was wondering how you cleanly change from one registration to another... Now I am very glad I got the studio 370 as I know I can use the orchestral pistons to change up/down. This instrument has kept me motivated during multiple lockdowns here in the UK and you have helped to make that difference! Thank you once again!
Thanks! I should do an update because quite a few things have changed. Those lamps are from IKEA but I have a much better one from Amazon now. Just look up piano led lamp.
Hello James, I have a question for you. Can you tell me if the Johannus's Expression-Pedal (and/or Crescendo-Pedal), send the correctly MIDI signals to Hauptwerk? In other words: Johannus Organs are full compatible with Hauptwerk? Thanks for your reply.
Interesting. Some food for thought there for what I'm planning. As to number of manuals, a friend has converted a 3m Makin console to 5 manuals - see my profile picture.
I would struggle to fit a Makin console into my music room 🤣 That’s why I went a compact studio model. Perhaps when they release a 4 man I’ll upgrade again 😬
@@james.flores Space is a problem, although not for my friend who did the 5m conversion - he owns a rather large country house that he's currently restoring. See www.hammerwoodpark.co.uk/
Hola James , me podrías decir dónde y cómo conectas el pedal de Swift para pasar las memorias en Hauptwerk y que te lo reconozca ? . Tengo el mismo modelo de órgano que el tuyo. Muchas gracias.
Thank you for this instructive video on the Hauptwerk Setup you used, would you make a video on different registrations and possible combinations of stops or in the future in each video indicate the stops used in each piece played please ? Thank you very much
How do you install hauptwerk to the external harddrive my PC installs a little file just for hauptwerk but I can never get it to install to the expansion drive
Hey James. Nice video! I need some help with Hauptwerk. Is there anywhere a secret website-link to download the old 4.2 Hauptwerk-version??? The new Hauptwerk V is really expensive. :(
Thanks. I’m not aware of any link. The monthly subscription is quite affordable and this model allows Hauptwerk to be a sustainable product in the future.
Dry interesting but you lost me half way through. I am interested in the two “solo stops” and the foot switch being used, as far as I understand, for a sequencer to cycle through registrations. Is this correct t and can you use either or? Thank you! (I just ordered a Johannus Studio 170). While I’m here, is it possible to play a four manual organ from a two manual console by choosing, for instance, the choir and swell? Any direction would be much appreciated.
You have so many wires and cables, haha! By the way, how did you achieve picture in picture mode of THIS video? Did you have have two selfie sticks and two cameras recording or does your phone allow for picture in picture mode?
@@james.flores I don't think my phone allows both cameras at the same time. If I had to make such a video, I would need to use two selfie sticks and two cameras.
