Welcome to Dr. Rose Helps You Hear. This video will go over my journey of sudden fluctuating hearing loss. I start from the beginning, why I chose the field of Audiology and how I lost my hearing. You will even get to see a personal file of my audiograms. I have also included a link to the audiogram used in the video below Enjoy!
PLEASE NOTE: YOU CAN STILL BE AN AUDIOLOGIST IF YOU HAVE HEARING LOSS! It requires a different way of practicing for some aspects, something of which I am getting used to. Please do not feel discouraged from the video when I say [my] hearing as an Audiologist is important to maintain, as it makes my job "easier". I am still learning how to cope with losing my hearing more often this year (2020) as an essential worker. If I had hearing loss to begin with, I would not have to re-learn how to do certain aspects of my job. I will get through it and thankfully I have a lot of support. Thank you to the hard-of-hearing Audiologists out there who have been so encouraging throughout my journey. ♥️
ALSO NOTE: My comment in the public comments regarding the use of a hearing aid with my condition. AND forgive the auto-correct on the spelling of NEUROTOLOGY (I am on a lot of emergency hearing medication and lacking sleep at the time this was edited 😴).
Please Like, Comment and Subscribe for more videos. 😇🙏 I am trying to reach 1000 subscribers for my RU-vid channel!! Thank you so much!!

I totally agree that hearing loss should be considered more, and catered to more.. and its definitely important to test hearing often enough to tell if its a persisting/permanent hearing loss or a temporary or conductive hearing loss.. Mine is sensorineural hearing loss

Please note: Amplifying when I have a full inner ear causes me to have a lot of distortion and sound is worse through any hearing aid. Thankfully, my clarity of speech is not affected when I have drops in hearing. My hearing fluctuates so much that a hearing aid could negatively impact my hearing if my hearing returns to normal suddenly while wearing a device. So, for now, while I return to normal levels I can do without a hearing aid. But don't get me wrong, I will fully rock one when the time comes! When my hearing no longer returns to normal, then I will be a better candidate for a hearing aid and this is all BEFORE a cochlear implant would even be a treatment option.

I can't answer specific questions about your particular health status. Unless you come and see me for a consult in California. But you can reach out to me on Instagram if you want to send me more specific questions.

I have Cochlear Hydrops too and hearing your story gives me hope. I'm in my first year of dealing with the disorder and my doctor has me on a drug as well as a low salt diet. While I understand you can't offer true medical advice, I was wondering if, as a fellow hydrops suffer, you could give me a little bit of advice as to what you do for food, such as how many milligrams of sodium you try to stick to per meal and such. This question is causing me a lot of nervousness when it comes to eating much of anything lately.

I also got low frequency SSNHL in left ear. The doctor gave me steroids and it got perfect after 2 days of meds but again after 2-3 days I am having difficulties in low frequency bass sounds. I did the audiogram test again but somehow the test came out to be normal, but still I can't hear deep bass (below 200 HZ I guess). The doctor told that it will get better soon and and told me not to overthink. But I am having a very hard time right now. I am a musician and I am so depressed thinking that if I will be fit again. Everyone thinks that I am mad

All you can do is what the doctors tell you. Go back to the ENT if you feel it worsening. If they gave you a dose pack it may not be enough. Follow any diets they gave you. Ask about maintenance. The less stress you have, the better for your ear. Join a Facebook group for low frequency sudden loss. My heart goes out to you. I'm not a medical doctor but I see the pain of sudden loss in musicians and it is real. See a psychologist if you need more tools for the emotional loss this can evoke. Feel better and hang in there. Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself.

Wow! You just woke up not being able to hear? Sometimes with MS, you wake up without the function of things too.

Yes, and very reduced hearing volume. Sometimes people sound like ducks. Sometimes it will slowly weaken throughout the day. I can't imagine losing other senses! Thank you for sharing and watching!

This group is not specifically for cochlear hydrops but the hearing loss is a similar pattern as well as the fullness and Tinnitus. Good luck to you. The ENT will know what medication to give specifically. I am not a medical doctor so this is not my place to talk about specific meds. ❤️

Hello, Nice channel! Can Cochlear Hydrops be seen on an MRI?
@DrRoseHelpsYouHear
@DrRoseHelpsYouHear 2 года назад
No. It cannot. MRI looks at bone and flesh. It cannot see through bone. Cochlear hydrops happens inside a bone-encased organ. I hope this helps.

Do you notice what caused this sudden changes to your hearing...is this related to some blood circulation conditions....any thoughts
@DrRoseHelpsYouHear
@DrRoseHelpsYouHear 2 года назад
Mine is related to autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation. I have had blood tests to confirm this. There are studies out there that show some cardiac relation for some types of bilateral sudden low frequency hearing loss, but there are not many studies. My ears are not symmetrical in the low frequencies so I would tend not to lean towards cardiac issues. With typical high frequency hearing loss, there certainly is blood flow related contributions. We have a lot of studies to back that up. Diabetes, high blood pressure and smoking all carry a higher risk of HFHL. Thanks for watching/commenting!
