Jane Seymour Introduction transcript:
CLEVES: You? Queen please!
PARR: Are you for real?
HOWARD: Yeah, weren’t you the one he truly loved?
ARAGON: Yeah didn’t you give him the son he so desperately wanted?
BOLEYN: Yeah like I had a daughter and he literally chopped my head off.
SEYMOUR: Yeah I know. I was lucky in so many ways. Well I had a beautiful baby boy and Henry got his heir to the throne, so of course I was going to be the one he truly loved. But you know if Edward had turned out to be a little baby Edwina, well I wonder how long that true love would have lasted.
BOLEYN: Wow yeah, what a stressful situation that never happened.
ARAGON: Yeah babe, you have no idea!
SEYMOUR: Okay okay, look look, you’re right. You’re so right! You queens kicked some major tudor ass, and that’s what everyone loves to hear about. You know, like girl power, WOO! So, um, what I mean to say is that… I didn’t do any of that. Instead, I stood by him. It didn’t matter how many stupid things he did. I was there. By his side. And that’s not because I was weak or scared, it’s because… I loved him.
Heart of Stone lyrics:
You've got a good heart
But I know it changes
A restless tide, untamable
You came my way, and I knew a storm could come too
You'd lift me high, or let me fall
But I took your hand, promised I'd withstand
Any blaze you blew my way
'Cause something inside, it solidified
And I knew I'd always stay
You can build me up, you can tear me down
You can try but I'm unbreakable
You can do your best, but I'll stand the test
You'll find that I'm unshakeable
When the fire's burnt
When the wind has blown
When the water's dried, you'll still find stone
My heart of stone
You say we're perfect
A perfect family
You hold us close, for the world to see
And when I say you're the only one I've ever loved
I mean those words truthfully
But I know
Without my son your love could disappear
I know it isn't fair, but I don't care
'Cause my love, will still be here
You can build me up, you can tear me down
You can try but I'm unbreakable
You can do your best, but I'll stand the test
You'll find that I'm unshakeable
When the fire's burnt
The wind has blown
The water's dried, you'll still find stone
My heart of stone
Soon I'll have to go
I'll never see him grow
But I hope my son will know
He'll never be alone
'Cause like a river runs dry
And leaves it's scars behind
I'll be by your side
'Cause my love
Is set in stone
Yeahhh
(You can build me up, you can tear me down)
(You can try but I'm)
Unbreakable
(You can do your best, but I'll stand the test)
(You'll find that I'm unshakeable)
The fire's burnt
The wind has blown
The water's dried, you'll still find stone
My heart of stone
Can't break me
Can't break me
Stone
Can't break me
Can't break me
Stone
Can't break me
You'll still find stone
My heart of stone

It’s my last day of vacation today! Hopping into the comments to say thank you SO much for the support you’ve shown my videos this month even though I haven’t been active in premieres or comment sections much. I appreciate you all so very much! If you’re excited for more Six content, guess what; I am too!!! So much so that I’ll be recording the next two episodes minimum by the end of this week, so if you can’t wait for the weekly Monday episodes, now’s a great time to join the Patreon and get those unedited versions AS SOON as I record them, along with the other very fun content I’ve been waiting to record once I was back home. Thanks again for keeping the channel alive while I was gone, and I can’t wait to go back to making content for you all very very soon! I believe in the dialogue before the introduction shown in this video (or alternatively maybe it was just in the Broadway version, idk), Jane actually mentions that Henry could be considered or even is/was called "stone-hearted," so in character it makes sense for Jane to turn that phrase on its head.

Jane Seymour: Modeled after Adele, Sia, and Celine Dion. This is recognized as the Power Ballad of the musical. When the musical hit production, it became clear that having a cast of six with one swing wasn't going to be a long term solution. They eventually ended up with three swing performers, one of whom is also the dance captain for a given production. When they performed for the Tony Awards in 2023 (2022 debut/season), one of the main cast contracted COVID and had to be replaced by the dance captain during the course of an afternoon. This is one of the shows that is recognized as needing to have a Tony created for Best Ensemble. There isn't a Leading Role/Featured Role. They are six equal parts.
@hanonondricek411
@hanonondricek411 11 дней назад
Six is the perfect well-oiled machine. It's a small short show that runs like clockwork with little fuss except the band and performances. There apparently are "Mega Queens" - universal swings who can perform all six roles. I think the show (kind of like Wicked) is directed and performed so consistently that they could fly any veteran Queen in to perform the role as she knows it in any production with very little put-in. That's why the dance-captain has an advantage because she knows everyone's track in emergency. They even have "swing" costumes that are elaborate but without color (usually gold and black) so the swing can wear that as any Queen they play. I love that the band is also in-character so they can introduce them without knowing real names if the band members swing in and out. They just have to remember the name of the city they're in if they're touring.

Now, Jane wasn't exactly an innocent little doe. There is a story of Anne once walking in on Jane sitting on Henry's lap (which she blamed as the reason for her miscarrying a son), and there's also the fact that Henry was engaged to Jane only a day after Anne was executed and married 11 days after, kinda sus timing. There are also several letters from ambassadors at the time noting Jane's quick rise to power and subtly undermining Anne's position, and allegedly even them getting into physical fights. She managed to convince Henry to put Mary and Elizabeth back into the line of succession, and as known, Jane died shortly after her son Edward was born, from what is now known to be post-partum complications. She seemed fine at first, but then rapidly fell ill a week or two later and died. Henry was devastated and took a while to look for the next wife. When he died, by his will, he was to be buried beside her. "The only one he truly loved", it seems. In terms of competition, she doesn't really have anything to complain about. The only "load of bs" she experienced was the typical misogyny of the times, Henry actually cared for her, she gave an heir and she "died on the job". That's better than most, and certainly better than half her competition got. Song still slaps tho Her son Edward could've been just as bad as Henry, but died in his teens from an illness. He tried to exclude his sisters from line of succession but nobody took it seriously, and Mary took the throne (feat. her first beheading, fun. For more info look up lady Jane Grey)

Well its not like Henry could have just execute people left and right it only seems like it in context of it being now mainstream thing. Of course things are way diffrent and more nuanced then the musical presents but that goes for any history based musical. Henry wasnt a litteral monsters and did some good thingsm its just that most of the context is lost to time for us, as for the animatic well it wasnt suppose to be accurate but just to respents her feelings on the matter

Here's the thing I've wondered: Did henry actually love jane herself, or did he love the fact she finally gave him the son he wanted? What if her child was another girl or having a miscarriage or stillborn? I imagine things would have been very different for her, and she probably knew and was aware of it because of what happened to his previous two wives. If she failed to give him a son, I'm not so sure he would have said that.

Also, if you still are doing musical reactions after six is finished, I would commit unspeakable acts to see your reaction to a Starkid show (specifically The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday, and Nerdy Prudes Must Die, a trilogy-of-sorts). Very weird but also VERY funny and I think you'd vibe with it, and also I'd love to see a reaction to an actual stage show and not just animatics. @Crystal-lz6bm
@Crystal-lz6bm 11 дней назад
Heart of stone is definitely one of the more emotional of the bunch. In terms of historical accuracy, its highly debatable. Yes, she did give Henry a son and Henry did request to be burried next to her, it is debatable whether or not she loved him. Also, although Jane has been seen as innocent throughout history and as a bit of a puppet (she used to have the title "plain jane" when she was a lady in waiting) but when you look at the big picture, theres a high chance that she had a hand in Anne Boleyn's downfall. Notes for the next few songs: For Anna of Cleves, she actually has 2 songs. The first one is Haus of Holbien which gives a backstory as to how she came into Henry's life. Then there's Get Down, which is more of the typical song you expect from the queens. For Katherine Howard, it is very very inportant that you find a version with the live audio. Depending on whether you do studio recording or live audio can drastically change how you see the character.

"You've got a good heart, but i know it changes" So this is interesting because Henry had actually had several concussions and traumatic head injuries from jousting as a younger man, including one REALLY bad accident January 1536 (just 5 months before he ordered Anne Boleyn's execution/married Jane), and there's some speculation that he sustained brain damage that "changed" him; made him so infamously volatile, unreasonable, paranoid, and prone to extreme anger. This is not to say he was a "good person" before his accidents, but there is some basis to believing that the worst of his emotional instability and rage was not how he had originally started out.

I think like a lot of people, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard are my favourites. However, I have to say seeing Heart of Stone performed live is such an amazing experience. I was sceptical because I was so used to listening to the original cast on repeat that the alternate casting for a later run would be a little lacklustre, but it really wasn't! The performer for Jane sang so beautifully and I loved the performer for Anne of Cleves' take on the character. They were all great really. So if you get the chance to get SIX tickets, I highly recommend it. (Side note: If you're not used to going to Broadway shows and are sensitive to sound, I recommend bringing some earplugs. Most songs you can feel in your chest and my ears were ringing after the performance. It was worth it but please take care of yourself if you're not fond on standing near the speakers at concerts.)

Heart of Stone is one of my favorites to listen to live bc the actresses do some WILD things with Jane’s riffs (another live favorite of mine is All You Wanna Do, but specifically because Samantha Pauly’s preformance of it lives rent free in my mind 24/7)

I had the pleasure of being able to watch the tour cast of Six. And had an even GREATER pleasure of having Natalie Paris, the original Jane Seymour, be in the cast! And she was just as good if not better when she sang Heart of Stone. I was definitely in tears listening and watching her perform! I'm soo glad you loved this song as much as I do! But me, as well as other Six fans, are EXCITED for you to react to the next two songs! Looking forward to it!

Haha yeah the song hits me super hard as well as a kid whose mom died when i was young. The whistle notes at the end are definitely reminiscent of Mariah, but Jane's biggest inspiration is definitely Adele. If you take a listen to the chorus, it's definitely reminiscent of songs like Hello. Also, some of her sassy speeches in the show definitely give Adele vibes lol

I highly recommend reacting to “Haus of Holbein” and “Get Down” in the same video. Not only is Haus of Holbein the shortest song from the musical but it also directly ties into the song “Get Down” and the Queen that sings it, Anne of Cleves. Also like everyone has been commenting reacting to the live audio of Katherine Howard singing her song, “All You Wanna Do” is the best thing to do. You will understand why once you react to it.

i just finished watching the video and wanted to leave this comment that i had the same reaction when i first heard this song. after listening to the entire album multiple times, my favorite songs have changed quite a bit, but i remember this one was the one that hit me the most that first time and at the time i didn't know about the inspiration coming from real life artists, but when i found out that jane seymour's was inspired by adele, sia, and celine dion, it definitely made more sense why it struck me so much that first time. i remember the first time i heard adele and celine dion, i was so in awe of the sheer vocal power they had, and this song being inspired from them just evoked the same reaction from me

I got to watch this show last year in Vegas with my grandma (who has nicknamed you "the music teacher"). "Heart of Stone" is a beautiful song, but was never of my favorite. But when I tell you I got chills up and down my spine in the theater, it was truly something else. It is a really beautiful song (and my grandma's favorite next to Anna of Cleaves).

I am so glad I’m not the only one that this song hit like a truck. I loved seeing you react to this song. It’s cathartic to be In My Feelings alongside someone else. As for advice for coming songs: you should probably listen to Haus of Holbein and Get Down together. They make the most sense when listened to together, as both are about the next queen.

This was taken from wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt but: The six ex-wives and their corresponding pop star inspirations are: Catherine of Aragon: modelled on Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Jennifer Hudson Anne Boleyn: modelled on Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne, and Lily Allen Jane Seymour: modelled on Adele, Sia, and Celine Dion. Anne of Cleves: modelled on Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. Katherine Howard: modelled on Britney Spears and Ariana Grande. Catherine Parr: modelled on Alicia Keys and Emeli Sandé.

Heart of Stone has always been one of my favorite songs from Six, just because the story is Heartbreaking yet so beautiful at the same time. I also found it interesting that you recognized the one riff on "the only one he truly loved". They aren't the exact same notes since "Ex-Wives" and "Heart of Stone" Aren't in the same key, but they doo follow running up the same step of notes. Ex-Wives is in C Minor, while Heart of Stone in that particular section you mentioned is in F Major. Also, Jane Seymour for her song style was based off of Adele, Sia, and Celine Deon! (Sorry for all the music lingo, but my brain goes into music mode sometimes listening to you react to these, so wanted to spread some of the knowledge! Anyways, I am excited for you to keep reacting to Six, since it is how I found your channel in the first place, and I have really been enjoying the content!

When writing the musical, Toby and Lucy wrote the songs with specific modern pop singers as inspirations. However, the women who have played the roles have been able to deviate and use whomever they want as their own queenspirations for their respective queen(s) when performing as long as it makes sense. For example, Jane is based musically on Adele and Sia. I have read some other people have imbued their own performances with other inspirations, such as Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Demi Lovato, and Celine Dion.

this is the updated intro for the current production. Seymour (in response to the queens): "Yeah ok, i was lucky. ok, i was really lucky. i was in love, I'd just had a beautiful baby, and henry was happy because thank god it was an edward and not an.... Edwina. **giggle** i was so excited. for his first steps, his first words, for not getting a good night's sleep for the next 3 years, but i never got to see any of that. y'know, people say henry was stone-hearted. uncaring. but i'm not sure that he was." (brief pause - Boleyn cuts in) "Yeah, come to think of it, there's this one really cute time when i had a daughter and he chopped my head off." Seymour (continues - talk to audience): "Okay okay look, i know that his times with the queens before me were hard, but they were also full of.....full of fire! he raged and stormed at them and because they're both absolute badass monarchs, they raged and stormed right back. but i didn't do that. *music fades in* instead i stood by him. like i was made of stone, i stood firm. no matter his flaws or his tempers, no matter my doubts or fears, i stayed there by his side. and it's not because i was scared, naive, or weak. it's because.......i loved him. **heart of stone begins** i'm pretty sure the intro you watched was before it went to the west end officially. the lines and costumes changed A LOT after their west end/broadway debuts. edit: seymour is inspired by Adele and Sia!!🖤

Her song was so innocent but she was actually very cruel. Also, among the queens I think Jane is the only one who wasn't officially crowned because during the time there was a plague and a lot of fights that took Henry's attention off of her

Who knows if it was really love, considering the head wound he got in a joust, plus likely blood poisoning from the leg wound he got in the same fall from his horse really messed up his mind, but in the end he chose to be buried with Jane when he died, to be next to her forever. Weirdly enough, also buried in the same spot is the decapitated body of Charles I.

Yeah, there have been heavy speculations about Henrys "Love" for Jane Seymour. He definitly held her in much higher regard than most of his other wifes, and there seem to be two major contributing factors for that: 1. The Heir. i mean, in the end, that is kind of what it was all about for Henry. JS bearing a male child definitly rocketed her right up in his opinion. But 2. He was actually quite unkind to her. While Jane is often portrayed as meek and agreeable, she had two recorded incidents of pleading or advocating for something against the Kings wishes, the first being to restore Princesses Mary and Elizbeth back to their Status as such and second to reinstate and rebuild some abbeys that were destroyed after the break from the church. Both Times, Henry shot her down rather brutally, even going so far as to "reminding" her of Annes fate. After this, it seems, JS did not ever question him again. So it is not so much that he loved her, but she seems to have been more easily controllable that KoA or AB. Of course, there is also much speculation on how long she would have lasted if she had not died in childbirth. Would Henry have kept her around? Or would he grow bored of her and replace her? Maybe he would wait and see if she could give him a spare on top of an heir, but I wonder what his reaction would have been if they had another child and it was a daughter. All Idle specultion of course, but i think it is fair to say that henry di not 'love' JS. He found her agreeable enough and she gave him what she wanted, but I don't think he cared much about her in the grand scheme
