The question to ask at the end of the series is how did Deku change his social standing and social status as a Quirkless person? Did he prove that you don't need a Quirk to be a hero? Did he prove that a person without a Quirk could be inspirational in the eyes of a Professional Hero centered social structure? Did he prove that a Quirkless person can save people? Did he elevate the Quirkless population out of a presumed second class status in the eyes of society? If you said no to these and/or other questions that I didn't put down then ultimately Deku gaining a Quirk then losing it literally a year later did nothing for him to be happy with his decision, beyond his self sacrificing nature, because he had returned to a secondary social class that was never addressed nor given proof that his standing in society was given an upgrade and therefore other Quirkless people in the hero society are treated less harshly as a consequence. The story is rendered pointless in my opinion because of that and many more plot holes.
Hear me out… if deku and shigaraki both lost their quirk, and than ran the fade at the end and that’s how the show ended. I would have loved the ending more
If All For One and One For All cancelled each other out and all that was left was two Quirkless guys beating the living daylights out of each other... Definitely would've been a better end to the fight.
Honestly if Deku became a doctor the Western discourse would’ve been mitigated, being a doctor is a respected job everywhere, and with how Deku loves to study quirks and help people that would’ve been a suitable job for him, the memetards wouldn’t have a leg to stand on

And then he told her that he also regrets for not being there sooner for Tenko. Like both of them had legit PTSD from the war as 17 years old, and he actually explained that she always was there for him to carrying him worrying about others before herself. He said that SHE IS HIS HERO, a kiss wouldn't fit the vibe of how things went there in that conversation AT ALL
Yeah, Teachers in Japan are respected in the way that they should be. In Japanese schools, students often bow to their teachers at the beginning and end of class as a sign of respect. Students rise from their seats facing the teacher, and when a designated student calls "Rei!", everyone lowers their heads.
"Guys, thank you for the suit. Now i can roleplay as a super hero from time to time" When deku accepted the charity cuck ironman suit, not only did it undermine the "losing the power" ending, it also undermines the "respectable teacher" ending. It indirectly implied that being a teacher is not enough. You still can't make a difference in this world if you are quirkless. Also, making the class 1-a be too busy from hero work to hang out implies that villain activity is still rampant and the ofa vs afo stuff barely changed the status quo. What a payoff for "this is a story how I/we became the greatest hero". Stain has more effect in the society than deku.
Well, moreso its that their schedules mean they conflict, not that they're too busy, so theey don't see eachother too much. Also, crime still likely exists
I understand the message behind it but I feel like if he was going to sacrifice his quirks that he would have kept at least one. He had several and it would have made sense for him to just end up with one for all by itself in the end and sacrificing his other ones.
You mean the stockpiling part right and not the sharing/transfer part right? Quirks are getting way too powerfull and if he transfers it then the next user will die within 10 years because all of the power gained is secretly sapping from the quirk-users life-force. Cant have your life-force drained by a life-force draining quirk that amps your quirk if you dont have a quirk for it to amp-up
I also wanted him to keep at least the core, one for all quirk so he can continue being a traditional hero, but i ended up being kinda glad that it didn't happen. Not because i didn't want to see Deku achieve his goal, i absolutely did with a burning passion, but because what happens to him reinforces the main point of the series, that anyone, powers or not, can be a hero
This video has finally helped me understand what left me dissatisfied with MHA's ending. It never fulfilled its purpose. From chapter 1: "This is the story of how I became the world's greatest hero". Horikoshi tried to spin that around and say "we're all the greatest actually teehee" but that undermines All Might's entire existence "Greatest Hero" means Symbol of Peace Deku is no Symbol of Peace And that makes me sad. Because people like Nighteye weren't criticizing his ability to be No. 1. Fucking Endeavor can be No. 1. They were criticizing his ability to be that Symbol that shows the world it'll be okay, because "I am here". He's not here. He wasn't. For a very fucking long 8 years. And even if he will be now, we will not get to see a smidgen of that. "One For All" shouldn't have ONLY existed to counter All For One. It's One for ALL, not just for "AFO". It SHOULD have stayed, it SHOULD have kept getting passed down. How I would've ended it? Have Shigaraki return One For All to Midoriya right before AFO takes control of the body again, and then have a fully empowered and supported Midoriya face down against AFO for at least three or four chapters. Once it's over, timeskip the 8 years, Midoriya is the No. 1 Hero after Mirio's brief run as No. 1. He meets the plate hair kid still. HE PASSES ON THE FUCKING TORCH LIKE THIS STORY WAS ALWAYS MEANT TO GO. THE END. Cue Opening 1: "The Day", and roll credits.
One of the reason i like the ending is because how similar his and all might life are Both were a quirkless kid that received a quirk form his mentor after the showd a potential to become great hero Both had to sacrifice the quirk that their mentor gave them to be able to beat afo( although all might at that point only had the embers) Both became a teacher at ua And both get a suit that allowed them to continue being a hero
At first i was actually quite disappointed to see Deku lose his quirk. I, too, thought that after everything he went through, after how much earnest work he put in, and after how much honest hero-work he did, he deserved a break, and that he deserved to finally achieve his goal, because he earned it. But after some time passed i realised something. Deku's goal from early on, was to become the world's greatest hero, to save people with a smile like All Might did for him. But both he as a protagonist, and we as the audience saw everything this world had to offer, we realise that there are major flaws with that ideal. If Deku had become the world's greatest hero, in the same way All Might did, then there is a very real possibility that the tragedies we saw and the flawed, biased hero system would repeat itself. Losing his quirk definitely hurts us because we want to see great Characters we love achieve their dreams. But in reality it doesn't hurt us anywhere near us much as it hurts Deku. Despite all of that, Midoriya becoming a teacher is a great decision on Horikoshi's part i think. Because after knowing and experiencing everything we did about this story we see that it doesn't take a flashy ability, a celebrity, or a worldwide known character to be a hero. Because Midoriya became a teacher, he can still use his main characteristic that led him to becoming a hero in the first place. His unwavering conviction to do what he thinks is right no matter the hardships, and his kind and honest heart that inspires others to act, improve themselves, and aim higher than they ever thought they could. That's why, although it does make me sad that Deku isn't a hero in the traditional sense, I'm happy that in the end he can still do what he wanted to do most, help people with a bright smile
Yeah, dude can inspire future generations. Plus well, as we see, Mirio, the main who Nighteye wanted to turn into All Might 2.0, is the #1 Hero, showing that, despite the slow steps its taken to change, IE the kid being taken in by the granny, society still has its old shackles
@chrisdiokno5600 that's true as well, nice bit of realism. Just because important, world changing stuff happened doesn't mean society is going to instantly learn from there mistakes and be better. Not that Mirio isn't a great hero who doesn't deserve the top spot, because as Aizawa said, he was the man closest to being number 1 including the pros. But despite that, i get what you're saying

Izuku didn't "LOSE" OFA he gave to Shigaraki to save Tenko from AFO. Yes, it did hurt him so much to the point of almost breaking as you can see in the panel of the OFA user suggesting that BECAUSE it was a gift to him by All Might a father figure like. But he knew that this was the only way to save Tenko as that was the thing which Izuku wanted from season what 5 or 6? He might have ended up killing both, but he did save Tenko from himself and AFO thus, having Tenko saying to Izuku what he wanted to say to Spinner. OFA was meant to take out AFO, and without AFO there's no real point or a need for OFA. Izuku NEVER wanted to become the number one hero, all he wanted is to help and save people with a smile on his face like All Might does/did regardless being the number 1 hero that was Bakugo's thing. You guys talking about as if in the years before graduating they weren't together, in fact, they tried to help him by funding the support item to be WITH THEM even IF they can't be together right now DUE TO their jobs as heroes. Hawks's dream yes, it did come true as in the last 8 years there was no villain/s around so they can focus on their jobs as heroes as their jobs is LEGIT helping AND SAVING LIVES BEFORE THEMSELVES. My Hero Academia has a different theme and story behind it which is not like other Shonen and I loved the ending. Now, do I think it would work for other animes? Hell no, but it works here for My Hero Academia, Izuku ending up with Ochako would have been nice, but that's not the thing for the story to what it was trying to tell. And as you guys already said, teachers are mostly respected in Japan and it's really a respected job there, unlike in other places lol. I don't see any problems with Izuku being a teacher cause he's happy to give his experience to the next generation. He and the class, did not do it for money and fame etc, but they did it to save those in need even villains aka Toga and Shigaraki.

Off topic, but did Deku ever reach an 100% form? I know he used his other quirks to kinda mimic 100% attacks, but did we ever see like another version of 100% infinite? If i remember right I think he got to like 45% of one for all and had his other quirks assist him from then on. I stopped reading the manga at some point and started again a little towards the end of the story so let me know if Im wrong
Honestly very few stories have a truly satisfying ending, doubly so for anime. For MHA I didn't really like the themes I was seeing so I never really started it, like Midoriya always saying he's wants to be a hero but he didn't do anything towards his goal before meeting All Might, like what kind of theme is that? There's some good crossover fanfiction though. I think so far FMA:B and Mob Pyscho 100 are the only anime to have a truly satisfying ending for me, technically Princess Tutu's ending is thematically good but I feel like I was robbed of the Ahiru/Fakir ship so I can't truly include it. For manga that I've read I'd say Kanata Kara and Cat Street have pretty satisfying endings. I'll never forgive the endings of Reimei no Arcana and Gakuen Ouji, garbage I tell you, especially Gakuen Ouji f* that and f* Mizutani!!!! (Mizutani is a character, I hate him, he's the reason the ending sucks)
Jujutsu Kaisen's ending made My Hero Academia's ending look cute by comparison, they made Sukuna the but of all the jokes by turning him into a blob meme...
Again I see the vision it’s just hard to see a character whose constantly sacrificing themselves and damaging themselves loses everything for such a long period of time and I don’t think it helps that it genuinely doesn’t feel like people don’t appreciate his sacrifice or him for saving the world
