if you are from Tik Tok you're a real one My high school did Phantom of the Opera as our musical this year and I wanted to show some behind the scenes... enjoy
Imagine having more than 3 guys in the cast, actual talent, a budget, and an actual show that you don’t do every other year. (My school has 2 shows and we do them every other year with no budget and 1 boy and no one has talent 😂)
My school has never had a show and its been around as long as my grandparents. I plan to change that next year and push my school. They only care about sports.
@@joosie8910 Don’t worry I haven’t forgotten my HS days in this regard. Now, I was lucky that I was at a HS that had clubs galore. Music, drama, and dance were all present and I was in all of them. But believe me, we still had to be our own best advocate and had uphill battles everywhere.
@@jenniferhiemstra5228 the athletes at most schools pay hundreds of dollars to play and do fundraising. Need money for a productions, fundraise or everyone pay.
Could be worse, the event that inspired the book was because the over 1 ton chandelier at the Opera Garnier’s chandelier fell and killed at least one person
It's honestly not fair that some kids get to have a better highschool experience then others just because of where there parents or guardians choose to have them live.
My school didn’t have a theater, they didn’t have any arts classrooms (choir room, drama room, art room, etc), they rarely had talented students, absolutely no money towards musicals, plays, show choirs, etc. It’s such a shame. I hope these kids know that they are extremely lucky.
I’m really appreciative of the opportunities I was given in high school, and of the facilities I was given access to. I know I was incredibly lucky, as were the other members of my cast, but in an effort to demonstrate our appreciation for the facilities and faculty we had, the entire cast put on our all, at each rehearsal, each performance, and put on a kickass show. I wish music was more focused on in schools nationwide, it’s easily one of the most formative experiences I’ve ever had in my life.
Imagine having more than 1 dude in your cast, having a budget, and having people that can actually sing, with a dressing room that’s literally the size of our STAGE.
This is making me sad because this was literally 9 months ago and I was about to switch to a school with a great theatre program (it was literally across from Disney) and now it’s online and I’m doing online school with no friends, performance, and I can’t even meet anyone
Bella Salceies unfortunately I’m not able to post the full show on RU-vid because of the rights, but I may be posting some smaller clips on my tik tok!
Luckily I went to a school that had a good budget for theatre, and reading a lot of the comments makes me realize how lucky I was. I had an awesome time (but stressful too lol) doing musicals and I wish a lot more people can have that experience too..Music and theatre is so great to have in your education and it should really be included in every school.
You guys are lucky. 100 years ago when I was still in high school I mentioned to do POTO for our school play and our director/drama teacher said it was “too sexy” ummm (of course it was it was not 100 years ago it was 2010, I was 16/17 at the time. Now I’m inches away from 30 with 2 kids. Hence the exaggeration.) Also our school was very ghetto and broke. Ah memories.
MomOfMischief I asked to do POTO too and I guess we didn’t have enough kids who could sing really well 😆 we did bye bye birdie and Oklahoma which I must have blocked from my memory due to too many embarrassing moments. Two years after I graduated they did FRICKIN LES MISERABLES and my brother played Val Jean! like WTF 😩😆 he was awesome btw, super proud 😊. I dunno I think we had the perfect cast for Phantom or little shop of horrors would’ve been sweet. Oklahoma 🙄 bleh.
@@ArianaCapraro Middle Tennessee, overpopluated ghetto broke ass school. We ended up doing a play on a no to low budget (which I can’t remember the title) But it was about a school and school life drama. Alot of us were goofy kids and when the night came for us to perfom, 98% of the cast (myself included) improvised our lines because we didn’t remember them. Probably due to nerves. the outcome...absolute comedy. I played the school body president named sylvia. I also improvised by poking fun at the other characters on stage which was hilarious. We were all making dweebs of ourselves but with no regrets. the audience got a good kick out of the whole thing and even our director couldn’t keep a straight face. Instead of being angry with us he admitted that it made the show better. A golden moment in time, due to silly teenage drama nerds.
dang i wish i couldve been in a highschool play, but i got denied the first year i tried out, everyone said my acting was decent so it had to be because the director was like "nah she's sick too often" (I had a low immune system at the time so, fair) and then i never got to try out again bc i switched to homeschool :P also the director refused to do musicals so whats the point really. i mean the plays were good every year but it lacked that musical pizazz yknow?
We're all freaking out over the budget (and valid cause that's insane) but the TALENT yall have to not only have phantom be a show that was co sided, but was also chosen and sounds THATS GOOD I'm obsessed
Omg y’all so lucky!!!! Since freshman year, I keep bugging my theatre teacher to do Phantom and he tells me “find a chandelier” but he also said we don’t have the money for something as big as Phantom. Y’all sound amazing though!!!
I wish I did youtube back when I did high school theatre. Reading these comments makes me realize that my school's productions were like top tier compared to what a lot of schools have. Competition to get roles was hardcore with all the insane talent. And the quality was so professional
The only show my school actually bothered to built a good set for is Alice the musical and Scheherazade the rest of the shows used the same set with props And when we did beauty and the beast the only thing they built was the bridge were Gaston falls off And these huge blocks with printed paintings on them The rest was just 9 small tv’s in the background stuck together to make the visuals :) Edit: And I just remembered, they guy who played Gaston broke one of the tv’s in rehearsal
This is the most wholesome thing I've ever seen! I'm about to embark on my on Phantom journey so AHHHHH. I'm 22 and I'm playing the Phantom in a Regional production in NZ!
This is seriously unbelievable. I didn’t do high school musical theatre because the shows sucked, had ZERO budget and no talented singers dancers or actors. These students are SO LUCKY and living my high school dreams haha
I think everybody here praises the production but no one is praising the behind the scenes. Props to the video editor! The vlog has a nice pace and doesn't feel like it drawns-out
When people were talking about the falling chandelier and audibly gasping, I was like oh it can’t be *that* good. But I involuntarily gasped. Just incredible. Honesty I so wish I could’ve seen this. I love Phantom of the Opera so much and it looks like this company and this production was a fantastic love letter to the epic tale. “Brava! Brava! Bravissima!”
I wish I studied at your school. my school also hosts annual school plays but since we're directed by an actual company, we can only do their original musicals which means we can't do Phantom. anyways, i absolutely adore this !! keep up the good work 🥰
I did phantom with a youth amateur theatre company when I was 16. We opened the trap to put a couple of candles through (we all know the set) and during the tech rehearsal, they opened the trap randomly and the candle didn’t come up during music of the night (not that it was supposed to it was supposed to come up in phantom). The stage was all smoked out and I had to follow the phantoms hand and walk across the stage. I fell down the trap
