wow never knew that guy who i played chao chatterz with one single time ever would be a 17k youtuber in a few years.

I started playing ss13 in 2013 because some friends recommended it. I proceeded to get banned from more than half the servers for a verity of funny reasons (some of those bans still persist today and i'm proud of it). I then started playing "serious" on New Eden, when it died I screwed around on CM for a bit making the xenomorphs uncomfortable and talking back to the brass, then got trapped in Paradise. Paradise is a bad server but for reasons unknown the admins let me get away with a lot of shit. Probably because Ive been there for years and my characters are all gimmicky memes so the admins like to follow me and see what dumb shit I get into. In many ways my anti-ban shield is primarily just notoriety. So I still play on Paradise mostly out of convenience and I don't like change. When i'm not playing on Para I'm in my private test server where I make custom mobs, clothing, and items all largely based on memes. I made the bugs from Starship Troopers because I wanted to do my part but the pixel art isn't as good as it could be and i'm too lazy to fix it.

Boat Bomber bombing his own video by not mentioning the real heroes of the site, Dungeon Master and Faction Wars. A Survival and Civilization builder RTS, and a Top-Down Team Shooter respectively. Was part of the biggest and dominant clan on Dungeon Master, knew the creator of the game and everything etc. I miss Faction Wars. Had Vehicles and Miniguns and everything in between. 3 factions to choose from and massive maps. Goddamn that game was awesome, wish someone would host a game of it.

Goon was an administrative trainwreck in its earlier years, their ban appeals forum around like 2012 was crazy. It used to have the face of a baby crying as the logo, and centered mostly around admins complaining about "pubbie tears". I'm not sure when they matured out of it, but you can see some of its history on the wiki under pages like "banned camp", "pubbie tears", and "dumb pubbies". That's the only server I remember from back then though, Liberty Station rings a bell, but I think most people were piling onto goonstation because of its unique code.

Damn the nostalgia, man... I remember when BYOND had Hundreds of games. Also "Console" a hacking game, which I believe was written by the same guy/team as the original ss13.

Who could ever forget the legendary Ben Dover, able to bring a castle and it's king to it's knees with two wooden clubs.

Ah, Dragonball Finale. Now that brings back memories. In the Pre-Phoenix days I lived and breathed that stuff.

I started playing DBZ games on BYOND around 2005, in my DBZ RP phase. BYOND then sort of vanished from my conscious mind until I discovered SS13.

It's and honest to God miracle that Byond still exists. I mean, considering it's age, and relatively low leniency for code dickery (yet somehow SS13 trundles along). One day the code archaeologists will take one look at Byond, and they'll ask how it could have possibly survived longer than the triple A bullshit... Also, 500 people? I've seen good SS13 servers set on fire with less than 30.

Lmao when I was excluded from school I used to play BYOND games sometimes. Dragonball Zeta, Finale and Rebirth specifically. Naruto Way Of The Shinobi. It was how I discovered anime a bit, but now right I’m a published author with two books edited and I’m basically a full time writer. Been on radio, TV, working on my first Sci Fi novel. It’s funny because I needed some inspiration and this video served as some, somehow. Thanks for the cool video, memory lane. lol I was just looking over my old Byond games I used to play years ago and I honestly miss so much of those games and only about five of them I used to play are still active but then again they moved to steam so it's not like I need to log in. Still, out of all the games, I played through my years growing up as a kid and teenager and even a young adult Byond had the biggest impact seeing how long I played it to the friends and good times I made on all those games.

Genuinely surprised there was no mention of naruto GOA, Icon ultima, bleach las noches I think it was, soul society, naruto fantasy or Megaman wars. All those usually had the top numbers on BYOND back in the old days. Was gonna add Murder mansion and REO 1/2 but REO1 and the former was mentioned. Think I'm even more surprised out of all of this that BYOND is alive at all, especially for SS13 of all games.

Heroes United was the game that made me join Byond. I was a little kid, and I saw some cryptic low-resolution video of a shitty looking DBZ game, and thought "holy shit" Looked it up. Traced it back to Byond. Made an account, ready to play. Then the game had been replaced with the sequel. Nowadays I think the sequel has been replaced with the first game again, for some reason.

There used to be a solid Civilization game on Byond where everyone was part of different races and formed civilizations and such. It's surprising it didn't become a genocide simulator.

Have so many good memories on BYOND, my absolute favorite website, I wouldn't say I lost thousands of hours of my life on this site, I learned a lot. From the age of 8 to like 14, I played on this website, I first learned how to spell correctly and get my grammar down, because make one spelling mistake on any game and you will get roasted. You meet a ton of cool people and learn a ton of cool things. You're socializing and interacting at the end of the day, just in a 2D dream maker haha.

Whoa there's a video on the holy byond

Gotta say the community is kind of hard to get into and suffers from the same issues I had with a lot of RP-heavy games. They tend to form pocket of players and roleplay with eachother and pretty much ignore new players. Sure, won't claim to be a master of roleplaying but you'd thing that with such a limited playerbase people would be more inclusive. Or at the very least encourage you to improve in the right ways. My first impression with SS13 was especially wonderful. Even thought the UI felt like an even worse version of UltimaVI, the game is addictive. For the record, during my first round ever. I got beaten up, strangled and hanged in a locker room by a changeling who then proceeded to steal my identity. 10/10 would die again!
